I've been teetering on the edge of getting this for quite some time now and listening to a recorded Traveller game over on rpgmp3 tipped me right over the edge! And I'm very glad it did! I'm now the proud owner of books 1 and 2. :D

To echo the above comments, these are really good books! All the feel of Traveller with all the goodness of Hero System!

    Great job all!

I think you mean Jean Grey soooo...

Firefox: Jean Fox was a normal girl that grew up in Detroit, Michigan. When she was 10 her parents were killed in a mugging gone wrong. Alone in a rough neighborhood, she learned to steal and con for a living. When she turned 16, she discovered a man called Purple Larry. Larry promised her food, a home, and a job to make money. She took it only to realize that he was just a pimp and Jean would have to make ends meat but prostituting herself to city officials and gangsters alike.

This went on for 3 years until one day Jean was serving a mysterious client at a motel. One minute she was there drinking wine and pretending to care about what client was talking about, the next she was on a cold medical table, restrained and dizzy. The client said "Don't worry this won't hurt a bit"

Jean awoke in a cell, her head buzzing. Her senses were on hyper mode. She could smell everything, hear the breathing of a fly in the next room, and see from afar. The overload of senses drove Jean mad and she began trying to break out of the cell the cell.

"Interesting," a woman said to the man who was Jean's captor. "She seems to have taken well to the cat DNA Dr. Moreau."

"Yes, it seems like she has," Dr. Moreau chuckled morbidly. "Her senses are now keen and her athletics should be off the chart. I will run some tests on her tonight as we..."

"Doctor look!" the woman pointed at Jean. Jean's body was covered with a fire-like energy. She howled a sinister roar as she began hitting the wall of the cell, breaking through it.

Alarms started to blare. "Men!" Moreau yelled. "Take her down but leave her alive!"

Several armed men came to the cell to try and stop Jean, only to be ripped apart by her unparalleled strength. Jean's agility helped her dodge most attacks and she soon escaped from the laboratory. Her mind was still on overload when she passed out.

Jean came to on the bank of a river where an old black man had been watching her. He took the poor girl into his home and fed her. Her sensory overload had faded and she regained control of herself. The man called himself Abraham Jenkins and he said that he saw Jean's "fiery" aura and feral behavior before she passed out. Abraham showed Jean that he too had special abilities and how he had learned how to control his powers (telekinesis). From then on he trained Jean in controlling her senses and using them to not only better herself but to also take on the responsibility of helping the downtrodden.

Jean now fights crime in Detroit as Firefox. She began with cleaning out the pimps and drug dealers, including Purple Larry. Things from there escalated to fighting gangs and then other supervillians. Jean has learned quickly in fights against others as strong, and some stronger, as her. She proves herself to be a formidable opponent to anyone that doesn't watch their back.

Powers: Jean "Firefox" Fox has feline-based abilities given to her by Dr. Moreau. This includes sharp senses, great agility, and climbing skills. The stress of the sensory overload has unlocked a latent psychokinetic power that manifests in a "fiery aura". This ranges from an energy field and limited telekinesis of her "Kitsune Arms" to tactile telekinesis and fiery claws to damage people.

Jean is Asian and 21. She is 5' 8" and has short black hair.

EDIT: Wait a tick, aren't they both in the same universe? Also it is weird that the original is called Shadow Fox yet she has cat DNA... Oh well

  5. Re: Pulparize It!

So we've got "Tortugas de lucha del mutante adolescente"

The brothers Tortugas were beloved tecnicos in their home village and the four of them were one of the first to be recruited into the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre by the mysterious Salvador Desfibradora. Their father, Astilla Tortugas, had been a professional boxer and they often incorporated various boxing maneuvers into their style which had made them popular locally but on the national stage they were poorly recieved and quickly became a liability to the newly formed CMLL.

Desfibradora decided that the brothers needed to become rudos and sent them for 'special training'. The brothers were dejected but were ready to accept their fate and agreed to the special 'training' he wanted them to recieve for their transformation. They were sent to a secret facility where they were immediately subdued and experimented on in an attempt by Desfibradora to discover a way to make more powerful Luchadores.

After weeks of experiments they managed to escape, now horribly disfigured and beginning to resemble the Tortugas their famly was named for. They returned to their father who now hides with them in the sewers below Mexico city where they attempt to fight the mechanations of the evil Desfibradora while hiding from the world they are trying to protect.

  6. Re: Traveller Hero

Ok, an update on my Hero Traveller game. 4 players, all of them love it.

Added elements of Bab5/DS9 and still kept the feel of classic Traveller. They are all former scouts, in a modifed heavy scout. They are working for the Terran Space Authority as special agents.

One character is a crazed female pilot, one is a less than honest licensed Telepath, one is a Vagr weapons officer/ground pounder and the last is a noble paladin like Doctor.

    Just now getting really interesting.

Will update when we play again, with information that won't spoil it for my players, two wander in time to time here.

  7. Re: A campaign for my kids

Bill, knowing your wife, and you..... Those two girls of your will have more than enough creativity to keep you busy, plus knowing you, you will be more than able to cope and adapt, seeing you have been my GM for more years on and off than I want to count.

Just go for what will make the girls happy and then adapt as needed.

  8. Re: 20s or 30s?

    1930's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Below are reasons you should use the 1930's (not in order)

    1) Nazis are around a great enemy.

    2) Soviet menace, they are in high gear in the 1930's

    3) Spain's Civil war. Proxy Nazi-USSR war.

    4) Better technology; like the China Clipper; better technology = more fun.

    5) China - Japan war.

For me I set my game in 1936 in part as a tribute to my late mother who was born in 1936. I also have read much about the 1930's and its history. This really helps to convey what is was like.

My game of course has lost worlds, strange ancient sites, weird science, masked mystery men, and Nazi bad guys.

My game has been described as history with pulp coating; meaning my game is historically based but with pulp features and plots.

  9. Re: Defending the Earth: Giant Asteroid

The Traveler and he's team of galactic-champion level, uses powers to alter the direction so it is now moving back along it's original flight path as they use powers to create a micro-worm hole large enough to allow the thing to enter and then leave as it is now heading back the way it came.

  10. Re: Pulparize It!

Beast Master; a young man with a strange telepathic gift that allows him to master animals. He creates a special bond with a group of special animal allies.

    1. A Horse, not just any horse but one with greater speed, endurance and all-around ability of a Triple Crown winner or a Hildago.

    2. A German Shepard, say a Rin-Tin-Tin, with Lassie like intelligence.

    3. A pair of Raccoons, smart, high dexterity and innate manipulatory abilty.

    4. A Golden Eagle, again smarter, and faster flier than an a normal one of the breed.

He travels the world seeking out those that would use science and magic to rule the world. He always finds a way to get the animal companions into where ever he has to go. Also, he always gets the girl, and not just any girl but one that in her own right should be called a Pulp Hero.
