1. I can see the potential. This will be the second Hero game I've GMed. The first was heroic-level fantasy and the system was well-received. I can see how complex it will be to run a supers game, but I can handle it if prepare correctly. I've been GMing 36 years I'll take ample notes and make sure I understand everyone's powers in and out. The one thing I'm most concerned about is creating encounters for a group of super heroes with a wide variety of powers, while keeping everything interesting and challenging.
2. Hey HyperMan, thanks for version 2! From what I've seen of 6th edition, the system seems pretty solid. The open-ended nature of character creation is both attractive and a little daunting. I admit it has taken me more effort to learn this system than any other but I'm hoping it will be worth it.
3. I've been using HD v3, I've only GMed one Heroes game years ago (heroic level), had a blast and have been using the software to help familiarize myself with the system so that I might run a supers game some time soon. I think HD can be customized and support the creation of house rules. Turning Transfer into an Advantage sounds like a good idea. It's been interesting looking at the various ways of creating a power.
4. So, bear with me, I'm still confused. I didn't see Naked Power among the Limitations in HD so for starters instead I created a bunch of separate powers this character might have (Listed below). Can you guys tell me how I can combine the the first three (Begone the Pain, Let Me Bear Your Pain, and Bear This Pain) into a suitable Power Framework, Compound Power, or a Power with a Naked buy off? Begone The Pain: Healing BODY 2d6, Ranged (+1/2) (30 Active Points) Let Me Bear Your Pain: Healing BODY 2d6, Ranged (+1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (40 Active Points); Side Effects, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (Stigmata suffers from the equivalent amount of damage she heals. ; -2) Bear This Pain: Killing Attack - Ranged 2d6, No Normal Defense ([standard]; Defense is not being living or having a psychic or magic forcefield; +1) (60 Active Points); Limited Power Power loses about two-thirds of its effectiveness (Power can only be used up to 2 Phases after Let Me Bear Your Pain ; -1 1/2), Side Effects, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (The damage done to the target is the equivalent to that which Stigmata previously healed; -1/2) Healing Touch: Healing BODY 3d6, Can Heal Limbs, Resurrection Wound: Killing Attack - Ranged 3d6, Invisible Power Effects, Source Only (Fully Invisible; +1/2), No Normal Defense ([standard]; Defense is not being living or having a psychic or magic forcefield; +1) (112 Active Points); Increased Endurance Cost (x2 END; -1/2), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4) Life Taker: Drain BODY 2d6 (20 Active Points); No Range (-1/2), Limited Power Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (Only works on the living; -1/4) Thanks for the advice.
5. Hi Hyper-Man, I'm trying to construct you idea in Hero Designer. I'm not sure how to do a naked buy off of the side effect. I'm assuming this would no longer be a compound power?
6. Sorry for the radio silence. Been bedridden, sick. I'd like the power to work this way: Option one: Heal at range without transferring the wound at all (has END cost) Option two: Heal at range and transfer the wound to an unwilling target (has END cost) Option three: Heal at range and transfer the wound to oneself or a willing target (no END cost) I suppose this may be a few different powers. Thanks all for helping me figure this out. I've begun creating the character but it's been slow going.
7. Thanks all, these are great ideas. I'm thinking this character can heal other people's wounds at range and either transfer the wounds to herself or to someone else. This would be at reduced END. She'd have another power to heal at range without the need to transfer the wound but that would cost END. NND for sure, I'm thinking Defense would be being an automaton/robot of some kind.
8. Thanks Tasha, that sounds good. I'm going to try to work on that PC tonight. I'll post it up here once it's finished to see what you all think (and maybe get some more advice)
9. I tried to create this power in HD and I can't apply the Link modifier to either Heal or Drain. It's an Unavailable Limitation. Seems like it would be perfect.
10. I'd like to create a power that allows a character to (at range) transfer a wound from one PC or NPC to another (only works on sentient humanoid creatures). If anyone has ideas how to do this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
11. Ah, I hadn't thought of that. Area Affect on its own would probably be best. I'll plug this into HD again tonight. Once again, thanks for all the feedback!
12. Thanks! Will check that out for sure.
13. I'm just glad to hear to 6th Edition isn't going anywhere. Being a pessimist I usually assume the worse. The two-volume set does weigh a ton. Lots of dead trees there for sure.
14. So I put Whirling Cuisinart Of Death into HD (minus the Personal Immunity) and the price is 96 points I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Also Autofire is coming in at +1 1/2 (not 1/2)... Whirling Cuisinart Of Death: Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 2d6, +1 Increased STUN Multiplier (+1/4), Constant (+1/2), Area Of Effect (1m Radius; +3/4), Mobile (1m per Phase; +1/2), Autofire (5 shots; +1 1/2) (120 Active Points); No Knockback (-1/4) BTW, what does 2x as many Whirling Cuisinart Of Death: 5 points mean? Thanks again! This is awesome. I think I'll give him a separate Armor Piercing attack as well (without the Autofire modifier).
15. Thanks for the response. Fortunately I have the two-volume set. I'm just curious why it's out of print what that means for the future of 6th Edition.
16. So I've been following Hero System since right before the release of 5th Edition. Right after I finally got around to running my first (and sadly, only) Hero game, 5th Edition was replaced by 6th Edition. After many years I'm finally committing to getting my long-term gaming group into Hero, and I've just heard a rumor that 6th Edition books are going out of print. Is this true? If so, what is the future of Hero?
17. That is an enormous bummer... Why is that? I'd hate to see this game go the way of the dodo...Fortunately my Hero System library is fairly well-stocked.
18. Thanks for all of the responses! I'm still not totally familiar with the mechanics/advantages/disadvantages of Multipowers but that's slated for tonight's reading. I'm guessing things like Rapid Attack and Two-Weapon Fighting don't come into play when you're creating Powers (?). As a complete aside bigdamnhero, what kind of music do you play? I'm assuming that if your considering Two-Handed Knife Guy Death Machine Cuisinart as a band name it's not easy listening Just for the hell of it, here are some projects I've been involved in: http://dropblacksky.bandcamp.com/ http://uroboroschoke.bandcamp.com/
19. Hey Chris, thanks for the response! When I finish this PC I'll post him here. Maybe you could take a look?
20. I'm finally committed to really pushing the Hero System on my group of players (who have been married to D&D/Pathfinder for an epoch. As long as I've been floating around on these forums I've only really run one Hero session, so I'm still a neophyte. I'm creating the PCs for my players so that we can just pass out the character sheets and begin play ASAP (super heroic characters with a gritty vibe, 300 points with 50 points of Complications). One of the first characters I'm creating is a weapons master that fights with two knives. Instead of making his attacks Skills I'd like to make them Powers with the special effect of incredible knife-fighting aptitude. I'm not sure exactly how to go about doing this. I've purchased the HD pack for Champions but don't have the book (I'll buy it as soon as the hardbound is back in print). I've applied the following power to this character. It's from the weapons master duel swords prefab pack: Sword: Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 2d6 (2 1/2d6 w/STR), Armor Piercing (+1/4), +1 Increased STUN Multiplier (+1/4) (45 Active Points); OAF (-1), No Knockback (-1/4) Does this power simulate two swords (one in each hand)? I'm not sure how to read the damage 2d6 (2 1/2d6 w/STR). Is this 2d6 plus 2 1/2d6 with STR? Also the notes say (x2 number of items). Does this refer to two swords? Thanks and sorry if these questions are super basic...
21. Re: Hardpoint's STR & DEX (understanding the math) Great guys, thanks! I had a feeling it was something really simple like that.
22. So I picked up the 6th Edition core books recently-- so far I'm really impressed. But being the eternal Hero newbie, I'm still stumbling on (simple) areas in the rules that confuse me-- in this case Hardpoint's STR and DEX (page 225 of 6E2). Both of these Characteristics are purchased as Powers with an OIF (powered armor -1/2). The first question that came up for me is how do you know what his Characteristics are when he's not wearing his armor? Then I looked at the math and became more confused. STR costs 1 Character Point per level. He has a STR of 40 which he has paid 20 points for. The OIF reduces the cost by half. But if the starting level for STR is 10 wouldn't a value of 40 cost 30 Character Points? With the OIF shouldn't he have paid 15 for his STR of 40? I'm confused about the math regarding his DEX for the same reason. At 2 points per level (starting at 10) wouldn't a value of 25 cost 30 Character points (divided by 2 for the OIF)? Thanks.
