  1. Re: Traveller Hero: Aslan Mercenaries Question Thanks..I do have the old Aslan module...and a friend has the new book (should have grabbed it when I was at his house). All I really needed was ship count an ship size/configuration and troop count (like 1 3,000dt command ship....2 1,000dt transports, 8 fighters and a 500dt transport....5,000 troops). I did get a count from the PDF but that is all I wanted. I really do not expect the players to fight them...I just like to be sort of "accurate" when throwing things around in a universe with canon.
  2. Re: Traveller Hero: Aslan Mercenaries Question Here is the general plan for tomorrow: The players are given the mission to drop goods on Singer , specifically to [Malmi Kona]. Their tonnage is filled with silver to fund the war effort supplied by expatriot Marin Du’Reen. His concern is that without funding the the Malmi Kona alliance, that lack of funding would eventually lead T’Neel to joint the Crella alliance in order to safely be on the “winning” side. The cargo will be fh silver and gold coins ---a loan to the government. Marin is paying the crew $20K and $850cr/ton/parsec for landing him there and holding on planet for a week until he assesses the situation. Wile there is no declared truce, or cease fire, the current war has slowed down and currently there are not major battles taking place as they take a “breather”. Upon landing the Marin Du’Reen is rather panicky upon finding the country of Firmas was under some siege and is very concerned that many of the country's artifacts/relics/artwork will be destroyed. The while the country has not been a major player in the world stage for hundreds of years, it has some of the richest artistic and cultural history in this world. Fearing that such will be lost unless he takes action...he pleads with the characters to take him there to load up to cargo hold with religions/artistic/historical work. He will pay them $2.5M for successful offloading of the goods. While the retrieval takes place, Nejd properly fortified by Crella makes a push into Firmus. Initially, there will be rocket strikes that will hit the city. The intent of the rockets is to destroy buildings within the city to TRAP the character’s GravTank until a mountain of rubble. They will be able to, after much effort to escape the entombing rubble they can dig their way to the surface. The rocket bombardment will be followed by some air strikes but also a large ground offensive. What they may face. *Squads of Nejds attacking *Citizens wanting off the planet. *Government wanting the grav tank. Another Development: *Arrival of Aslan Mercenaries.
  3. Re: Traveller Hero: Aslan Mercenaries Question Thanks! I will love it and the players may hate it. Perhaps when they are ready to leave the planet...that is when these dudes (and dudettes) will show up.
  4. Re: Traveller Hero: Aslan Mercenaries Question Sorry...you guys posted and I delayed before submitting. @old_man Thanks for the heads-up on the pdf....Hmmmm...this could be interesting.
  5. Re: Traveller Hero: Aslan Mercenaries Question The other problem...being a non-military kind of guy...I really don't know size-wise (troops and ships) what makes sense.
  6. Re: Traveller Hero: Aslan Mercenaries Question But would they have a Broadsword type ship? I didn't know if such a ship seemed to human? I suppose it would be shaped different and have some variation.
  7. I am running a scenario on the plant Singer in District 268. http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Singer_(world) What is brought up in the article is the hiring of Alan mercenaries. Looking through the Traveller and Traveller Hero stuff i am a bit stuck. What would be the kinds (sizes/ armament) of ships and what would be a typical troop size and vehicles? Nothing in the books I have seem appropriate.
  8. Re: Vehicle Speed Yea....so really the vehicle doesn't have a speed...rather is should be a SPD maximum limit.
  9. Re: DEX for vehicles and HERO System Vehicle Sourcebook My reason for asking about the Vehicle Guide was to handle things like combat between planes and tanks and such. I do have the spacers toolkit and such...but I was concerned about having more fleshed out or optional rules than found in just Book 2 of 6th ed.
  10. Re: Surface to Air Missles I think it was the 2nd book of the the Hero System that talked about building them as vehicles. What I had in mind was something with acceleration and perhaps some piloting rolls to help avoid. They will be in a ships boat (Traveller Hero) and the planet they will be on will be at the 1960s-ish tech level. I thought about just throwing a couple missiles at them to heighten some tension but more likely than not they will fail. Rather than just doing a simple attack roll, i was wondering if manuervring it out on the hex paper would make for a good time. Thoughts?
  11. Re: DEX for vehicles and HERO System Vehicle Sourcebook The problem is I use that term on occasion this way and doesn't convey via email and I should have used quotes. Normally it goes like this, "For an extra $1000 you can lighten the bicycle by 6 ounces, but that is nothing that "mere mortals" will notice." There are elites athlete wherein mere ounces can make the difference of a win taking place over thousands of miles but they are on the far right of the distribution curve...far...far...far to the right. There is a sense when we hit a level of granularity that is imperceptible to most people or unreachable.
  12. Re: Vehicle Speed There is a space ship listed in a set of rules with a speed of 6 which really no person is ever gonna get close since most mere mortals are in the 2-3 range..and the speedy people in my heroic campaign are 4's. One thought I had was to allow piloting changes to occur on those phases. I think I will just use it as a limit, but it seems like points wasted.
  13. Re: DEX for vehicles and HERO System Vehicle Sourcebook Thanks guys...
  14. How do you handle a vehicle having speeds significantly higher than the characters in a campaign?
  15. Has anybody done a write up for these?
  16. While I understand that the DEX for a vehicle is the maximum DEX its operator can react.....WHY ARE SOME SO HIGH...? A jet at a 23. That is well beyond the pale for mere mortals (non-supers). Many are so high it is pointless in heroic and normal campaigns. Am I missing something? How useful would a HERO System Vehicle Sourcebook be for a Traveller chamaign?
  17. Re: Judice: A world with Nitric Acid instead of Water HA....enough adventures were either spooked by the acid atmosphere....or the pyramids (long story) that they chose not attempt it. Best laid plans...... (***SIGH***)
  18. Re: Judice: A world with Nitric Acid instead of Water Would it be possible to have "normal" looking creatures in this environment? It seems like the Traveller adventure seems to think so.
  19. Re: Judice: A world with Nitric Acid instead of Water I have Shadows in my Traveller book....phanks.
  20. Re: Judice: A world with Nitric Acid instead of Water Hmmmm...thanks all....great stuff.
  21. Re: Judice: A world with Nitric Acid instead of Water The text simply says "Judice’s corrosive atmosphere/hydrosphere, where nitric acid has replaced water, has attracted an Imperial research team, who have set up a research station to investigate the world’s primitive (but extremely hardy) life forms evolving in the “seas.”" My first reaction was WHOA.....severe. But while it says REPLACED which in my mind means...completely....I don't have to follow this. Even though I have some hard core Traveller people playing they wont mind a deviation. Kraven - I think the trade off for mining asteroids is cost vs mass destruction. The cheapest, easiest way to do it would be to hurl the rock to earth. Yeah...gold may be the key..or some sort of coating could be made that was invented in the nest few thousand years. My initial thoughts for usage of this planet was trivial...the players were going to drop on the planet, off load cargo, and then make a swap (on paper but not in reality) of scientists with passengers. Their patron was creating a fake paperwork trail of sorts to swap out spies on another planet. But I thought this planet may have some other options as well. Some thoughts.... 1. A scientist lost and needing rescued. Perhaps finding an tunnel system....lost empty city....temple. Maybe find something cool, but not crazy. 2. A scientist lost and needing rescued...with corrosive effects putting rescuers at danger. 3. The scientists expecting replacements and realizing they are NOT getting furloughed and demand being taken off planet. 4. Aliens plot runs though my mind....but everybody knows that storyline. Feel free to discuss and throw stuff out.
  22. Re: Judice: A world with Nitric Acid instead of Water Yeah...i did read on wikipedia about the gold...thought maybe that was a bit over the top..but I suppose plating parts..And there could be other acid resistant coatings that could be applied. I didn't think about the environment being that dissimilar to our own. I suppose it is also possible that life could be structured to be kinda like "inside-out" stomachs....since our own bodies do produce and deal with acid regularly in our stomachs and is well protected against it. I guess another part of the issue is the concentration of the acid. It is quite possible that its effects are quicker than our own acid rain....but much less aggressive than straight acid. Perhaps. Normal equipment and vehicles are used...with some protective coating but with the understanding that it would need replacements every 6 mo to a year. Perhaps that is where I need to go with this. THere would be no "farming" of any type going on with this world...except maybe some yeast vats....there are only 3 people and they are doing research.
  23. Re: Judice: A world with Nitric Acid instead of Water Plus...any random thoughts that come to your mind. I did not intend for this to be the main place for adventure..but definitely want some fun stuff to take place if possible.
  24. Traveller...District 268 of the Spinward Marches has a world where instead of water there is Nitric Acid....and supposedly life lives with the seas....and three scientists are there to study it. A few questions: All I can think of is ALIEN....any thoughts on what kind of life would exist (rubber science is fine)? It sound like nitric acid loves to eat metal. What materials would shelter and vehicles need to be made of? Ceramics?
  25. I don't have GURPS and I never played GURPS...it seems like it lines up fairly nicely with HERO but I do have some questions with using Far Trader. Has implimented these rule in their Hero campaign?
