  1. Re: Enhanced Senses, overpriced ??

Senses are not' date=' IMO, overpriced. Especially when you consider what you can do with them and that buying a second Sense (or Sense Group) as Targeting you can potentially bypass such things as Flashs, Darkness and possibly Images as well as envrionmental effects with little effort on your part.[/quote']

Moreover, when used wisely (and especially when combined with your own Darkness, Flash and Change Environment powers), Enhanced Senses would allow you to recieve most of the benefits you'd get from being invisible.

Not to mention their usefulness outside of combat situations...

Unless they want to do it at Combat Speeds' date=' in which case an archaeologists training probably won't help. They take their time for a reason... it's hard work.[/quote']

Unless you're Indiana Jones, why would you want to use your PS: Archologist in combat speed?

  3. Re: Package Deals in 5ER

First of all, thanks for the warm welcome and the useful info. As I said in my origional post, I'm currently trying to port my 4E campain to 5ER, and the packages are giving me some grief.

As for the question about package deals in 4E, for those who asked, the idea was indeed to encourage building sound character concepts, by awarding a small point bonus (hence the term package deal) for characters who took a set of skills which made sence together.

This concept worked well, IMHO, for cultural and proffesional package deals, where it practicly forced players to round out their characters with KSs, but was somewhat abused with racial package deals, where it served as no more than a cheap way to get some more points.

In any event, this bonus wasn't too high (up to 3 points for a 15 point package, which means another free skill, basically).

For those of you interested, you should take a look at KillerShrike's take on packages (which he was kind enough to PM me. Thanks man!). He makes some valid points there (excuse the pun :nonp: )

  4. [i origionally posted this question on the Rules Question forum, and was instructed to reopen it here]

After quite a long time of playing Hero 4th, I finally moved on to 5th Revised, and I'm somewhat confused with the treatment that Package Deals were given.

Back in 4th, Package Deals were a way to incorage players to build well-themed characters. This was achieved by granting a small point bonus, with a value relative to the cost of the package, and allowing the GM to decide not to count the disadvantages in the package towards the maximum points from disadvantages.

Both these concepts were removed by 5ER, which brings about the question - why would a player want to use a package deal? Why not simply take the skills, talents, perks, powers and disadvantages appropriate for the character?

(The obvious exception would be racial package deals, which may be the only way to purchase certain powers in certain campaigns, like Elves' nightvision or Ogres' size)

  5. This post is a follow-up to my questions regarding package deals I posted on this thread.

Under 5ER rules, players don't really get any in-play benefits for package deals. This brings up following question - why should anyone want to take a package deal?

Why not simply take the skills, powers, and disadvantages you see fit for your character?

(the obvious exception would be racial package deals, where the GM rules that there is no other way to purchase those racial powers, such as flight or nightvision)

  6. Re: Eating your lunch...

The one (and probably only) thing I did like about M&M is that it forced Hero Games to open up, and liscene out the Hero System, so now we can see Hero products from all sort of smaller publishers, like Misfit Studios.

Not that I don't like Hero's own products, but diversity is always good.

  7. I've finally moved on to Hero 5th Edition Revised, after some long years of being a devoted 4th Edition player.

I'm currently going over some of my old fantasy campaign resources and converting them to 5th, and I have a few questions about package deals.

Back in 4th, package deals gave a point bonus, depending onm their total point value. Moreover, it was up to the GM wheather or not package deal disadvantages would count towards the character's disadvantages total.

I can't seem to find a mention to either of those notions in 5ER.

Were they eliminated, or was I just looking in the wrong place?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ogmios
