  1. Re: Jimmy Olsen's Watch

Lois Lane got into trouble at least as often as Jimmy' date=' why did she never have a Superman summoning device?[/quote']

Recall once reading a reprint of a story (from the 1940s?) where Superman gave Lois a signal watch of her very own.

EXTREMELY sexist, even for that era. LL constantly buzzes Supes for all manner of idiotic "emergencies", such as breaking a shoe heel on a city street or getting herself trapped in a department store's revolving door, etc.. In the end, some gangster-types kidnap LL so they can use her as a distraction/decoy. Naturally, their dastardly plan fails. Story ends with Lois bursting into tears and forcefully returning her watch to Superman (His snappy response: "Er, if you insist.").

  2. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

More on the fatal building explosion in the city this morning: the body was found outside the building' date=' under the back wall which had been blown down by the force of the explosion. There is now a suspicion it was murder, but police are being tight-lipped about their investigations.[/quote']

The news report I saw tonight mentioned how the blast took place at around 3 AM, and that there were a number of jerry cans found with the owner's body. Kinda hard not to jump to conclusions.

  3. Re: Need a few suggestions for new girl on the block

Thumbing through my copy of 'GURPS Timeline':

1933: Hitler takes over Germany; Chicago World's Fair opened; US Prohibition repealed; first release of 'King Kong'; appariition of the Virgin Mary seen in Banneaux, Belgium.

1934: Mao Tse-Tung leads 100,000 Chinese on the famed 'Long March' (less than half survive); FBI shoots Dillinger (some question whether it "really" was him); interest in, and sightings of, the Loch Ness monster hit their peak.

OK, mostly pulpy events. A couple that are arguably occultish. A number of possibilities, absolutely.

  4. Re: What is the most outrageous B$ power that you have encounted.

My best friend once put together a character called 'BONSAI'. His main schtick were various flavours of a high-powered Transformation Attack (with Autofire) that basically shrunk the target. Repeatedly. One power slot would shrink only people, another would shrink only their clothes, and so on. The Character's warcry was "Bonsai!". Yes, he was Japanese - take all this as a measure of my friend's sense of humour.

For the first session, the GM threw a monster at the party - try to imagine a mutated Megalodon on steroids, that comes fairly close. First round of combat, Bonsai shrunk said monster down to about goldfish-size. The party then installed the monster in a decorative aquarium in their base.

After that experience, the GM went back to running D&D.

Selection of downloadable ship plans. I highly recommend 'Roter Lowe' in the freebie section - had the images enlarged and printed to A0 size, then laminated, for my '7th Sea' campaigns. The result is BEAUTIFUL, and close enough to 25mm scale as to make no differance at all.

'Pirates of the Burning Sea' is a very interesting looking MMORPG. Check 'Screenshots' and 'Ship Info' (in the 'Game Info' section) for exterior images of a wide range of sailing vessels, from yachts and sloops to galleons and xebecs to Napoleonic frigates. No proper deckplans as such, but worth a look.

Incidentally, does anybody knows of where one can find deckplans of a Bao Chuan (Chinese "Treasure Ship" of the early 1400s)?
