  1. Re: Are all the good names really takes? Okay for the super growth metamorph character I am going to act as your consultant and tell you that HIGHRISE is the name you want! Thank you for your consideration Brogahn
  2. Okay first, does anyone have any work done on Stronghold or any superhuman maximum prison facility that I can borrow ideas from? Secondly, anyone have a writeup for your bare bones Primus agent? I am putting together my villains campaign and I was hoping I could save my self a lil work if some one had done this type of work before. I need some suggestions about secruity measures, guards, and exactly what to do about the escape of 100+ superhuman hooligans. Premise:... VIPER wants to break out some key members of Dragon Branch, and while they are at it they want to steal the Medical Records of all the Inmates and destroy the files. They are going to take special care to eliminate some of the psionics that are in the infirmary (a very scary phenomenon where every Psionic on the Planet fell into a coma has the world worried.) Viper is also going to impress any "mystic" villains they come across as part of a plot thread about a mystical superhumans arms race in the criminal underworld. Come on HERO philes I need some help! TY TY TY THANK YOU for any and all suggestions Brogahn
  3. Re: Dumbest thing... two things about Storm as uber fighter and this is only opinion.... 1.) I think she recieved a lot of off page combat training from Wolverine. 2.) I like how Ra's Al Ghul put it in Batman Begins ".....training is nothing! Will is everything." I think she had some training and she has proven again and again taht she has the will to fight, win, die and overcome. Brogahn
  4. After the Superman Vs. Hulk got to a point where folks were talking about the obviously hot daughters of Hulk/Supergirl or Superman/She-Hulk. I got to thinking. Give me an idea of interesting decendants that Champions, Marvel or DC HEROES and Villains could have. Throw up a write up if you like. Speculate about some of the Children of these various Universes and where they might go and why. I look forward to seeing folks thoughts on this one. Ty Brogahn
  5. Re: Dumbest thing... Please Forgive me but I am going to open up my scope a lil bit. The disasterous 7 who formed IMAGE COMICS (Mostly Artist who must have thought writing was easy) save for Savage Dragon... I found it entertaining if not always tasteful. Whatever acclaim did to Valiant Comics. Spider Clone Saga This New Spiderman is the embodiement of some spider spirit hocus BS! Anything Infinity after Gauntlet (omg did that get beat into the ground) uhm canceling Justice League Unlimited (I was enjoying it as I was not a true devotee of the DCU it gave me a very nice overview) Wolverine back stories which are actually implanted memories. Endless Retcons... Ty Brogahn
  6. Re: "Threat Levels"?? Thanks Shrike I will check out the CKC... if I understand you they have something in it that will detail the difference ratings? I would like to know if point totals are the only governing factor when putting someone in a specific classification. Brogahn
  7. I have no idea if this has been adressed before, but I recall reading somewhere in my Champions Universe book or perhaps another book that their was a rating system for what level threat super villains were and I would assume that by proxy certain heroes might be classified under a similiar method. As I recall they use the Greek alphabet to deliniate(sp) between the various threat levels What are they and under what criteria does a person qualify for a particular threat level? Thank you for any help, Brogahn
  8. I hope this is the correct forum to start this discussion. At one point, I understood that HERO was going to produce a book along the lines of "Everyman" which would detail all sorts of walks of life and such. In the constant effort to understand the various numbers mean especially in a heroic and even a super heroic campaign I continue to fall back on using professional atheletes as a "yard stick". My question is how would you simulate a game of basketball, a batter at the plate, or a 60 yard offensive drive ending in a forward pass touch down? What charateristics do Offensive Lineman have vs Quarterbacks, running backs, and recievers. I am curious if anyone has ever tackled this as some of the classic moments in X-men comics were those baseball games or evena bit of basketball. I would love to hear from some learned and experience HERO players. Thank you very much Brogahn
  9. Re: Hulk vs Superman Okay I thought I might just chime in on this one as I once upon a time fueled some fires in the Thor vs Superman debate. I will honestly say that I do not know who should win, I am not familliar with how powerful Hulk is currently or how weakend the last son of krypton may or may not be. I would propose a test of sorts. As I recall there was a combat simulator at one point for the HERO system where you could punch in some facts about each built character and then let the computer kinda tell you who would win. But that system only works if you agree that both characters could be built on simillar point totals while also building them objectively to reflect their standard abilities. I appreciate what both Marvel and DC have done for comic books and providing us with years of entertainment and stories of heroism sacrafice and totally awsome twisted butt kicking and the exploration of morality and vast abilities. I know this would be a very hard thing to do because depending on what version of Superman or the Hulk you are familliar with, you get very different versions of these heroes. Now as a former comic book collector who was an avid Marvel Zombie, am I to understand that the DCU has been reinvented yet again. Do the fans of DC ever get tired of these reboots. Also where is the creativity in inventing new stand alone heroes, not just new members for the Avengers or X-men but all new characters. With that said, Superman vs. Goku should come up next. Take care Brogahn
  10. Re: Villain Campaign: need help Hey Folks, Thank you one and all for the insight. I wanted to updateyou on how things are unfolding. I am currently in what we might call preproduction for the campaign. I have just started my last quarter before I earn my degree and I am starting a new job. On top of all of that I am waiting for a spot to become available to run the game in our schedules. I may be sharing sundays with another player/gm. With that said I spoke at length with players in group and individually. I expressed how important it was for me to be able to connect with their characters and to have an understanding of their motivations and that they be able to work together while staying true to their character concept. This approach really worked as the players started to reign one another in until I believe I am getting some characters that will work well together. So far, the two player/characters I was most concerned about were the two wanting to play mutant twin brothers. Power wise one is going for Ice Powers and the other is going for Radiation Powers. If any of you are familiar with the manga/anime "Death Note"... they told me that they would be like the characters Light and L. This means they are highly intelligent, resourceful, clever and amoral at times. They will be sociopathic but not psychotic. They have the makings of Master Villains. Another player is playing a professional criminal/assasain along the lines of Mystique/Carnage cross. A very potent and dealy metamorph. We have established that he will have a lineage with one of the other great Super Villains in the game world, his mother the QUEEN (1600+ Super Villainess who is pro mutant... think HER and Magneato) Our only gamerchick (we only ever seem to have one at a time) is considering playing a "Little Nikki" concept. Half inferanl/ellysium spawn. In my world that means she most like has very specefic heritage. She would use magic. I have conspired with her to have a magical tome at least which gives me one or two plot seeds. I must admit that I have shot down my 5th players idea for a character or at least shot down his power. He led with powers which I always think is a no no. He wants to play some form of paper manipulator based on a manga or anime he is familliar with. As it was explained to me this could be a paper green lantern. For some reason I am just not enthused by this idea and I asked him to work on it. I realize by writing this how totalitarian this sounds but for me to do my best I have to be interested and supportive of the characters in order to give my best to my players. As it stands it will start as a 300/100 Points/disads game. I think this will allow for the development of substantially potent characters who have a lot of growing to do before they are truly terrifying. I do not have any hard and fast rules on Active Points or DC's yet. In the past I was very concerned about controlling these factors. I want to see what sorts of abilities the players feel they need to make their villain truly insidious. Starting Locale will be the Stronghold Super Max Prison Facility. (Anyone have any information about a prison facility for supers...or advice about making it more realistic) I have let the players know that they will have the opportunity to escape when VIPER comes to get some of their own. From that point on I expect it to be high action staying ahead of PRIMUS and other Super Heroes. Having conspired with the "little Nikki" player to have her go after her magical Tome which will be held in a seperate secure location. My metamorph chacacter is going to have doen quite a bit of mercenary/infiltration work for various organizations and has contacts. The sociopathic brothers are actually interested in deconstructing society and have thusly studied psychology, political science, sociology and many other non sci fi sciences. Also "little Nikki" was "trying out" for Viper when she was imprisoned. She is interested in their recruitment efforts for mystical power. I am hoping to nudge the players into scouting a base of operations getting the funds to build it. Having it constructed secretly. I will make it known that they can do this independently or they can perhaps try to develop a relationship with Viper. I already know that I can have my players run afoul of the mob or Viper not to mention other super villains. At least one player has expressed interest in gaining vengeance on the group that got him captured: G.U.A.R.D. Team Atlanta (an earlier campaign I ran where our pc's were the heroes) As it stands I know I have to do a lot of work to seed the game world with opportunities and then write in specefic encounters based on the course of action my PC's take. I am looking forward to the challenge. If anyone has any more suggestion....please let me know! (and if you are interested once I know who my PCs will be I will happily post details. Tyvm Brogahn
  11. Re: Villain Campaign: need help While Brainstorming and going over your suggestions, I came up with a scenario. My players are not necessarily interested in being villains for the sake of playing the role and outwitting the heroes. They have been in two super hero campaigns I have run and they want something else (I personally want someone to run a supers game I get to play in... oh well) I may have misled some of you.. I do not want to base the game in the CoX game world. I just want it to start with a prison break. They have records and have been captured before. I now have a new idea that I may actually want to spring on my players. That being that while they are imprisoned a number of serious Earth Shattering things occur. One of those would be the global psychic backlash that will leave many psionics in comas. Another would be an invasion by a very powerful malavolent force... I am thinking extra dimensional. Some of the main Superhumans go missing... and the world is lost. When the rescue comes most likely in the form of Viper... they are no longer coming to merely rescue their cohorts but they are also there to execute the criminal psionist in the infirmary. My pc will start the game with power dampners on and of course they will want to have those removed in order to make their escape. At that point the prison will come under "Temporal Bombardment" ... ie the prison will be locked in stasis for the next TWENTY years. And the world is ravaged and war torn. I really do wish post apocolyptic hero was ready. But that drops the PC's with a criminal bent into a vastly changed world with new governments and issues to deal with. A main assertation by my players was a desire to have a less reactive game. They wanted to be able to control and influence what they do. I think this could be the answer and so long as they develop interesting characters with powers I think this could be a very good in depth game. Any thoughts or suggestions? Ty Brogahn
  12. So after about a two year break from gamemastering I am going to once again run a HERO game. When I asked my potetnial gaming group what they wanted to play, there was a great deal of enthusiasm for a Villains campaign. Immediately they wanted it to be gritty and lethal. I asked of them what will be your characters motivation for crime or extralegal activities and what motive will you folks have for banding together. This is where I feel a bit overwhelmed, two of them want to do some nihilistic destruction of society and I can only imagine that it will be in some high brow fashion. I explained that were I to do this game I will be first making them start more or less from scratch. I have established that I will be using the City of Villains introductary theme of escape from the super human prison. The PC's are gettign lucky, they are NOT the subjects of the jail break. I am asking them to carefully craft their characters background and personality and to please let things build. I am eliminating their resources and I am limiting their contacts or followers. I want them to feel the pulse pounding exhiliration of escaping from prison going on the run avoiding recapture and then figuring out what they want to do. I find this to be challenging because it means that I will be responding to their intentions and I have to seed the world with potential targets. The gang and I have discussed this and the fact that appropriate lead time will need to be given to me to figure out thought out appropriate scenarios. I personally want the pc's to carefully craft their characters...but asking someone to roleplay petty, vindictive, or any of those lesser characteristics in criminals is hard. I have two already that are conspiring to be calcualting psychopathic monsters, a third might very well just be cold blooded calculating opportunist... I am not sure. I do know that I expect the game to have a high degree of inter party roleplay and I just want to ask my players to not doom this campaign from the beginning by making characters that CANNOT get along long enough to succeed. Some general advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Brogahn
  13. Re: X-Men "Elseworld" game All I have to say is THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU:D I greatly appreciate the input and advice. Allow me to adress some concerns raised. As far as Doc Ock, all I feel I need to do is look at the character and the nature of his accident and possible his up bringing and tweak it a lil. If he had been given an opportunity to do something Heroic, if he had friends that rallied behind him instead of feeling shunned. Thats just my take on it. Dr. Viktor Von Doom or Dr. Victory (and yes please do look up that comic where he was a good guy) A small simple alteration of not having his mother fall into the clutches of Mephisto would seem in order. Maybe some other events as well... mayhaps he too shall be the Sorceror Supreme. Whoever it was that spoke up about the INHUMANS.... god bless I think I just found Mr. Sinister's New Playground. (I think geneolgoy and the 'planned' superhuman traits would amuse him.) Deviants and Eternals...they may very well be around but they may not be in the X-men's scope of things to interact with. In an eary Excalibur book, there was an extremely dangerous version of Nightcralwer mentioned...an assassin trained by the Red Skull....I think I will go with that. I understand that Remy Lebeau has been very well used since his introduction... I needed a powerful underworld figure with his own capabilities and resources. Taskmaster would be great especially if he came with a host of thugs that he had trained. Then he could do what I envision the Black and White Knights doing...providing security. By the By.... Sebastian Shaw helps to bank Roll the Xavier Magnus Institute of Higher Learning. They are power brokers not necessarily all bad but certainly not charitiable and benevolent. Spiderman does exsist...more or less as he is now. (I did another campaign where Peter Parker was recruited by Shield and Trained to be SPYDER and his clone Ben Reilly became Spider-Man... they had strained alliance... I do not want to go that route again though) Okay so anyways please keep the ideas and comments flowing... this is really helping me!! Thank you Brogahn
  14. Re: X-Men "Elseworld" game Good Questions OzMike The Hulk? Hmm well I am thinking of a four armed monstrosity based on physical fusion of flesh between Banner and Rick Jones. Perhaps Banner did not go out to stop the youth from crossing. Could anyone clue me in about the Ultimate Universe's HULK orgin...it may be helpful. No, As of now I will not have had Galactus visit the earth. Or at least it is not common knowledge. I would prefer to save that ...perhaps a Phoenix Force/ Galactus clash would be in order. The Skrull would have made an attempted invasion. I very much wish to use the brood in future encounters. The Kree and Shiar may have interacted with the Fantasitc Four of this verse...but not the X-Men... least not yet. The Mantle of Sorceror Supreme... Well lets have Dr. Strange dead because of his ill fated car accident.... Whom does that leave? I may have to do more research. Victor Von Doom ... the benevolent leader and Defender of Latvaria. (Dr. Victory perhaps?) These are wonderful questions. I did a great deal of research on Sinister recently and I believe I want him to be the supreme arch nemesis. I very much wish to tie him in with the Red Skull as they would have been colleagues during WWII. The Cytorak gem is currently on display along with many other Korean Antiquities... I do not know who I mean to claim it yet. HERE is my version of the HELL Fire Club White King: Justin Hammer White Queen: Susan Storm White Bishop: Donald Pierce (Worlds leading Cyberneticist) White Knight: Jamie Madrox (Shield Trained scary spook type) White Rook: Caine Marko (Runs a Mutant Talent Agency) Black King: Sebastian Shaw Black Queen: Lady Mandarin (not Psylocke but wearing the rings: Not sure who yet) Black Bishop: Wilson Fisk Black Knight: Remy Lebeau (Leader of the Assasins and Thieves Guild) Black Rook: Mordred If you have questions or coments I would love to hear them. Thank you Brogahn
  15. Re: X-Men "Elseworld" game Thank you for the interest. Uhm lets see. I want Steve Rogers as president it was publically known that he served as Captain America in WWII. There may be 9 sentinels active used in conjunction with US ARMY Guardsman to combat super powered threats. (The sentinels are not on a mutant hunting spree yet) I am looking for some other general twist on the Marvel Universe that may make this game familliar but different. I have not been an active avid reader of Marvel since 1995.... So just give me some Ideas or things you would find interesting. I hope that helps. Thank you Brogahn
