  1. Some things are better left undone. This wouldn't even work for me with the Hulk.
  2. Perhaps there was other havoc he wrought of which we have yet to be told. 🤔
  3. It seems like quite a bit of f/x leeway, some loose and free interpretations combined with a standard and fairly detailed set of powers is the perfect combination to describe The Torch.
  4. I take it all back🤐
  5. I must say you members are so far a very helpful and civil group. Usually some troll would have manifested by now and poisoned the thread. Perhaps the dedication necessary to comprehend and utilize Hero effectivly appeals to a different breed of cat. Or perhaps I have just been lucky so far but between this and my other inquiries you people have been top notch. Go ahead....pat yourselves on the back for me.
  6. Awesome post. I have been messing with 4th ed. Thank you very much. It 'seems' to my mind that adding personality was likely a clarification for this very reason. But that is just a guess. In that case I personally would use multiform for Hulk, Dr. Jekyll / Hyde. Even Dr. Blake / Thor. Guys who basically become a different person, not just activate powers. Johnny just activates with 'Flame On' but the Torch and Johnny are the same 'guy'. So he is OIHID, EC, MP something like these or a combo of them.
  7. So if I get this right multiform should be basically Jekyll and Hyde or some other split/separate personality type rather than just an overlay of powers and/or changing of form. In this case Dr. Don Blake/Thor would logically be multiform rather than OIHID / OIAID.
  8. Awesome! Thank you and everyone for the thoughts and suggestions. If Capt Marvel is not a multiform then I guess the same would be true of the Hulk. That means I have no idea why a werewolf would be a multiform. --Just checked out Sam Bell's writes up on a few characters. Don't want to mess with these guys!
  9. Its interesting to see how different people interpret how to implement something. Lot of flavors.
  10. This makes good sense to me. I did not think of breaking them into two different frameworks. Would you give them both the limitation OIHID? Seems to me the EC group would be OIHID but not the necessarily the multipower. Does the Torch need Instant Change as one of his powers or is he considered always in hero form just not always actively using a power, such as flaming body. Is his flaming body expressed a power or a SFX? Sorry about all the questions but I think if i can get a handle on how to accurately express JS/Torch them I'll be a long way on understanding how to build with Hero.
  11. So would his change from child to adult would be some Transform power or just a SFX side effect of powers which grant characteristic boosts and growth?
  12. I think in the comics he became more Adult minded than the movie. But seeing as how everything about his body and abilities changes I would think the multiform would make the most sense. Otherwise I'm not sure how to express the gains in all the stats but I admit to having no practical experience with Hero. Also, I'm not sure if he used a focus to change, like staff to hammer, or just a power word. If it was a focus then I guess you could link all the powers to the activation of the focus? Like Iron Mans armor. Just from my reading of the manual it seems that anything which causes a temporary gain in stats across the board would be most easy to express with multiform but perhaps I'm wrong. In the case of the Torch, is his fiery form a SFX which only uses END when he uses a power or would just being 'flamed on' consume END every pulse?
  13. I am using 4th ed. 😬 It seemed a bit less overwhelming than 5th or 6th but I do have all the books. The Limited Power makes sense.

    Human Torch

I am just learning the system and thinking about how to express the Human Torch -Johnny Storm version. At first I thought of him as having elemental control with various powers but now I am thinking he would best be expressed with Multiform. One just Johnny Storm the basically average human and then The Torch. A living plasma expressed with his powers in an elemental control framework. How do you simulate water dousing his flames until he dries himself off, usually by heating up. Is this a vulnerability. Are his powers limited by 'only in hero ID' form? Or is this not allowed when a hero is a multiform. Would Captain Marvel, (Shazam!), be a multiform or would his powers be limited to only in hero ID? It seems CM would almost defiantly be OIHID but not so sure about Johnny as his Strength, Dexterity and such really don't change. There are so many choices I'm finding it a bit daunting. Thanks for any help
  15. Mongoose Traveller is very similar to Classic Traveller. So far I like what I am seeing in Hero but I am questioning if playing normals would feel a bit limited in this system. BRP is a great system for mundane to heroic characters but gets strained for things like demi-mortals, (supers). In reading Hero it definitely seems fine tuned to larger than life. Mainly because of its graduations in characteristics being 5 points for a +1 and skills being heavily linked to these stats. Once I get through the book I'm going to create some average adventurers and run then through a small dungeon crawl, heist, assassination mission, etc. If it plays well then Hero might be all I would need for anything. If I was playing supers then Hero would definitely be it but right now for space its Traveller, Sword and Sorcery a Runequest 3rd ed derivative. ⁰
  16. I think GURPS 4 has Traveller 5 beat on clarity. Traveller 5 is to clarity and simplicity what F.A.T.A.L. is to decency and virtue. 😚 That said I love T5 but not sure if I could ever get a game off the ground as the original Traveller is really a great game and very simple. T5 is the last word as well as every word. I picked Champions 4 as a way to pole vault into Hero 6 because H5 & H6 also look quite daunting and dense.
  17. Heck. You'll have to take a gander at Traveller 5 then. 🙂
  18. Thanks everyone. I guess I can see how this would might make sense. Have to chew on it for awhile. At first read-thru Hero seems to be a system of simple concepts with complex results.
  19. I am just reading Champions 4th for the first time and am new with the Hero system. Certain powers use END per phase. Such as telepathy which can be resisted at +1 per attempt unless the END cost is paid per phase. Does this mean a character with a speed of 12 pays 12 times per turn while a character with speed 1 pays once per turn? Or does this mean that if the END cost is paid each phase on which the target resists then the +1 resistance for each step on the time chart is omitted? As written it seems like the cost is based upon the attacking characters active phases but this seems to penalize fast characters. Thanks in advance for any help.
