  1. Hi,

Learning HERO again for a superhero campaign (after not really playing since 3rd Edition), and figured the best way to do so was to build a character using the Superhero Gallery information in the back of the Champions 6E hardback.

I have figured out the math for how the points are added up with the Characteristics and the OIF limitation of the Power Armor, but I was wondering if the math was off in the 'notes' for two of the Characteristics in the yellow Powered Armor box on P.274.

For Strength of 20, it shows a Lift of 3,200 kg, and 6D6 HTH damage with a 3 END cost.

    20 STR 7* 15- Lift 3,200 kg; 6d6 HTH damage [3]

According to the Strength table on P.43 of the HERO 6E Vol I book, wouldn't the lift for a STR 20 be 400kg, and the HTH damage4D6 with a 2 END cost?

For the Presence shown in the same yellow box, it notes the Presence of 20 has a PRE Attack score of 3D6.

    20 PRE 7* 12- PRE Attack: 3d6

On P.135 of the HERO 6E Vol II book, it states that the Presence Attack should be 1D6 for every 5 points of Presence. Wouldn't the 20 PRE of this base armor mean the PRE Attack should be 4D6?

Am I missing something about how Power Armor modifies Characteristics, or is my math off?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Combat Flight allows for the option of maintaining current velocity or reducing it to 0 at the end of each Phase.

Combat Leaping automatically reduces the character's velocity to 0 when landing (unless performing a Move Through or Move By on that final Hex).

That's pretty much how we played it.

In that case, the Accelerate/Decelerate Advantage would really only apply to long-distance noncombat leaps, correct?

  3. Thanks Hyper-Man,

The question that came up in our game is if a character leaps 10" in a phase, and then at the start of the next phase, decides to decelerate to zero - would he still be compelled to move 1 hex per 5" of deceleration (2 total hexes to decelerate from 10" to 0") in the direction of his velocity? Assuming no acceleration/deceleration advantage.

  4. I've been trying to get ahold of the book for quite a while with no luck.

Found a reasonably priced one on eBay that was damaged, but missed the auction.

I don't mind paying a decent amount for it, just not ridiculous. Self printing is way too expensive as well.

I really wish there would be a reprint. I understand that Champions Complete took the place of the main books, and I have it, but the main books are great looking, and I prefer those.

  5. The store indicates both are available, with damaged covers, bundled with .pdf's.

    Hi Hugh,

In looking in the store, I am only seeing sold out for the Character book/pdf bundle with damaged cover?

I really wish I had gotten a copy of it when it was available because I'm not a PDF fan. I have Champions Complete, but prefer the other book.

  6. Hey folks,

I am trying to introduce two long-term AD&D/D&D 3rd players to the HERO system via Fantasy Hero.

Both seemed a bit intimidated by the size of the 5th Edition revised Rulebook and Fantasy HERO, so I was wondering if I could run a campaign with Fantasy HERO and just sidekick.

If so, what am I going to be missing out on ?

    Thanks.

  7. Re: x3

Would someone who saw the part after the credits mind posting what happened here (as a spoiler), or shooting me an PM.

    I missed it.

Also, have any of the media outlets mentioned talk of another X-Men trilogy ? I know there is going to be a Wolverine prequel, but that's all I have heard.

  8. I'm sure someone has statted up several of the Marvel & DC superheroes with HERO 5th, and I was wondering if anyone has collected the various write ups in one place ?

If so, would someone mind pointing me in the right direction ?

    Thanks!

  9. Hi folks,

Long time since I have been on the forums, but I am trying to get back into HERO, and thought I would work towards a GI JOE campaign.

I'm sure somebody has worked up some HERO stuff for G.I. JOE (VIPER practically screams Cobra), and I was wondering if anyone had links to any conversion write ups ?

    Thanks.

  10. Re: I just bought Hero 5th Edition Revised instead of GURPS 4th Edition.

    Thanks for the welcome folks!

Lord Liaden - Great link! I've pulled down info on the 40K Weapons Conversions (that will save me A LOT of time), the Tyranids, and the Space Marines.

From looking at Star Hero, and the 5th PHONE...I mean RULEbook tonight, I've already found a tone of 'pre packaged' info (Packages - cultural, racial, and professional, and Equipment) that is going to make life easy for someone who is new to the system like I am.

It also seems like there are SEVERAL ways to tackle the same issues using HERO, and a lot of it comes down to personal interpretation.

Now on to a couple of questions (none specific to rules):

    1) Military Rank - How would this be handled (purchased) using HERO ?

    2) The 40K game I am working on is going to be a Play-by-Post message board game. Has anyone here used HERO for an email, or Play-by-Post game in the past ? If so, how did it work out for you ? I won't be using physical representation (a hex map) for combat, but I don't think that will be a huge problem, as I remember asking Mr. Long via email at one point about using HERO without miniatures and a hex map, and he explained that in all of his years of playing, he didn't use the maps often.

    Thanks again.

  11. ...I walked into my local game store to buy the 4th Edition Gurps Character & Campaign books, and ended up walking out with Hero 5th Edition Revised.

A little background about my "gaming career" - I bought Champions back in the mid-eighties, and made up several characters (probably not entirely correct characters according to the rules), but never actually played the game. I bought the 4th Edition of Champions/Hero, but never actually played the game.

When 5th Edition came out, I bought it, Fantasy Hero, Star Hero, and the Bestiary, but never played the game - or finished reading the rules. Then I took a hiatus from gaming for about a year or so.

So here I am, back to gaming (weekly D&D 3.5, and a couple of online games), and thinking about trying to convert Warhammer 40K over to an RPG system....and I go into my game store with the full intention of picking up Gurps....when I see "THE PHONEBOOK"....I look through it, then through Ninja Hero, The Viper sourcebook, and Star Hero (which again, I own, but haven't read) - and it just seems like it would be FUN to convert 40K to Hero.

I am a little scared at the prospect...the system seems like it will DO ANYTHING, but it also seems like there are so many options that it will be hard to know where to start a conversion.

We'll see how it goes. I'm just fore-warning you folks that I might have a lot of questions over the next few weeks.

  12. A while back, I stumbled across a website that had several of the Warhammer 40K weapons listed in the Inquisitor game converted over to the HERO system.

I'm considering trying to do a homebrew 40K RPG using HERO and unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate the website again. Does anyone here know of any websites that have done HERO conversion of the 40k Universe ?

    Thanks!

Other possibilities would include things like Limited forms of Gliding, but that's probably more trouble than it's worth. ;)

Steve, I think this is the one I'm going with, being new - how would this work ? I'm familiar with using points to purchase PD as a characteristic, but how would I purchase points in a characteristic when it was a "power" with the limitations you listed above ? (I would like to use a Breakfall Roll, and the "Against Falling Damage" limitation.

    Thanks.

  14. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Being new to HERO, I'm not familiar with all of the systems & options.....That's one of the great things about the system....There are several different ways to go about doing things, and it just takes some experience to know which is the best solution. Hopefully, that will come naturally over time.

How many of you have found that you have created a character/weapon/power only to find it was missing some component availabe in HERO that would make it better ? I have a feeling I'm going to be doing a lot of that as I figure out the system.

Can anyone reccomend "the best" source for modern and near future weapons in HERO ? (I know the rulebook lists weapons by Calibre, and that's probably all I'll need - but has anyone else put up something more) ?

    Thanks!

  15. Hey all,

I'm relatively new to HERO. I've read through the system, and owned Champions since the 80's, but I have never played a game. I'm looking

for a little bit of advice for my first game.

I'm going to be using Sidekick to plan a campaign loosely based on the Underworld Movie - but the character's aren't Vampires & Werewolves.

They are part of a well-funded private organization that's mission is to

    dispatch Vampires & Werewolves.

Anyway, I own the HERO System Bestiary, and the Vampires and Were-

wolves in that book seem like they would work with minor modification.

One question I had was in regards to the "free-fall" Vampire/Werewolf

capability as seen in the movie trailer and the movie itself. How would

I accomplish this "Fall from heights without taking damage" ability using

    HERO ?

I'm also looking for input on how to handle the......

Ultraviolet Light and Silver Nitrate bullets used in the movie.....The only difference is, I don't want them to be quite as deadly as they were in the movie.

Any general advice is also welcome on running my first HERO campaign.

    Thanks in advance.
