  1. Re: Tell me Foxbat will be in it

Unless I've misunderstood stomething (which isn't at all unlikely)' date=' this individual is the Big Kahuna himself, Jack Emmert. Between that, the general popularity of the character Steve already mentioned, and the fact that this is, after all, the Champions Universe, I think it's a pretty safe bet that Foxbat will show his screwy head in there someplace.[/quote']

I'm not sure you're correct here, Bob, but I'm not 100% sure. I believe Foxbat is an employee who is a full-time moderator for the boards. Jack Emmert posts as himself over there. Plus I'm pretty sure he would be too busy with his other responsibilities to be on the forums as much as Foxbat shooting ping pong balls at folks. But I could be incorrect.

  2. Re: Odd Costume Designs

A reporting system for the jerks and other abusers should largely alleviate the problem. Not entirely' date=' of course, but volunteer policing does wonders. :)[/quote']

I agree, but who decides what's offensive? Say, for example, I am playing a practitioner of Asatru and another player finds some of the trappings offensive to their belief system. What then?

Certainly, somebody with a "Flipped Bird" logo should probably be reported. While I don't find that image offensive I can understand why some folks would. Especially parents that let their younger children play.

I think a wide (MUCH larger selection that available in CoX) variety of pre-drawn logos/emblems is the only way to go.

    Unfortunately.

I agree that the volunteer policing works. From the experience I have seen, the judging of offensive is two-fold. If a player is reported as offensive or for abuse, the first thing the game should do is flag the character internally for someone to review the situation. Based on the abuse report, a person (Mod for example) should be able to determine if the reporting person is overly sensitive or if the player is truly offensive to the general public. If the Mod does not feel the player is overly offensive enough to take action immediately, then the flag stays, and if the player receives multiple reports then the 2nd fold of the situation comes in and the Mod would have to take action at some break point.

  3. Re: MMO already bringing in new Hero players...

I spoke to a gentleman the other day (father of a girl scout in my troop) who said he played Champions when he was in high school, like so many others. But he stopped gaming because he "grew up", got a wife, children, a real job, then got into MMO with WoW. He said he hadn't heard anything about Champions for years, so figured they were out of business! :o

I had to set his straight and bring him up to date with Champions Online. He was going to go home and check out the websites :)

  4. Re: Interview With Lead Designer Randy Mosiondz

Granted I didn't follow the City of Hero pre-launch stuff, so maybe this is normal, but I think it's cool that they are doing these interviews and that the developers are posting on the website. I'm sure it gives them a break at work to check the forums, but at the same time they are working. It builds community support and involvement into the game development, which makes the players happy. It's actually a wonderful marketing tool.

  5. Re: I had a descussion with Steve about buying some Hero's books...

Ok now I'm depressed about having to think about my budget LOL' date=' I'll be back a bit later! ;)[/color']

Budgets can be depressing! Believe me, I get depressed over ours at least monthly :) But at the same time, they show you're being wise. I'm a big pro-budget person, so bear with me.

I *know* you want the book now. It's boys and their toys and all. (Girls likes the new toys too, by the way. ;)) BUT the 5th edition book is not going to feed you for this month, pay your rent, or cover a taxi ride to a doctor's appointment. So *please* I beg you, figure out the budget on paper, cover all the necessaries first: food, transportation, medicine, utilities, shelter and clothing. Then see if you have anything left over. If so and it's enough for 5th Ed, buy it. If not, then sit the money aside for next month and add a bit more to it.

In the meantime, do you have a Half Price Books or maybe even a public library that might have a copy of the book? I haven't looked, but would ebay or half.com have a copy for a reduced price? (Sorry Steve/Darren, I know you guys want sales, but I don't want the latest man to declare his love for me to starve! *hehe*)

  6. Re: I had a descussion with Steve about buying some Hero's books...

The suggestion of starting with the SideKick is a good one. Also, budget it out. You don't have or want to spend all your money at once. (Sorry Steve :P) Pick up a book now that you can afford, use the PDF version to save some money, if you like them*. Then next time, pick up another book.

*personally I don't care for the PDFs because I like being able to bookmark and write notes and such. Yeah, I can do it online, but it's not the same. I like a book I can snuggle under a blanket with on a cold evening.

  7. Re: Who's Who on the Champions Online forums?

He can't, you cant use spaces on those forums, just underscore or dashes, and we like HeroicSteve! :)

On those forums I am Avatar_of_Champions... and since I could not get Avatar of Heroes to work here I went with Heroic Avatar.. which sounds pretty good to me...

I never said I was creative!

Welcome to our little world...that seems to be growing. That's a good thing! :)

  8. Re: Steve's Chat Tonight

Do you archive/post the transcript of these chats? If so, where?

    Thank you.

Contagion, most of the conversation was questions that you could find the answers within the threads if you read various threads. Nothing really sticks out in my mind as something totally new, but again I was tired so maybe I'm forgetting something.

Steve gave updates on the status of a few books going to print or hitting the warehouse.

Oh and 6th edition is going to be two books...I missed that from the threads and so I learned something new from the chat ;)

  9. Re: Super Valentines

Sorry, no pictures...but my son is giving out Marvel Valentine's today, so here's the sayings:

    Wolverine: "Looking Sharp!"

Spider Man: "I'm your friendly neighborhood Valentine!"

    The Thing: "You Rock!"

    Captain America: "You're Super, Hero!"

    The Incredible Hulk: "You're Incredible!"

(someone I don't recognize...Sai maybe?): "Sai like you!"

    Iron Man: "Happy Valentine's Day!"

    Storm: "You Are Electric!"

  10. Re: Let's make a superhero base auditions (Topside description)

Like some of the others have suggested, I like using an older building. Maybe an old courthouse or library that has been moved to a new more modern building. The cement steps and large columns, made in stone or maybe brick would be a nice solid appearing building.

A city block with an alley running along side or behind would be cool, especially if vehicles seem to go into the alley and just disappear from view. Someone watching blinks and suddenly the car is gone. Blink again and the another car is racing out.

  11. Re: There's always one

Ok, I have *no* experience as a GM, so my response comes purely from the player's side and might be totally useless too you. That's fine, I'm just trying to help.

You said the player is impossible to hit, but has relatively low powers. Well, that sounds like most of my characters. However, for me it's as much how I play them as their actual character sheets. I tend to write characters with reasonable (not high, not low) speed, and low defenses, but high in perception or extras in other senses. I also tend to roll very lucky, nothing to do with the character, just dumb luck there.

Anyway, I don't charge out in front. I tend to let the bricks do that. I tend to be a range person, and I tend to roll and make my PER checks so I can abort to cover or a force field if I need to.

Bottom line, characters I play tend to be hard to hit but one decent/good hit and I'm down for the count.

So is it the character or the player that makes him so hard to hit?

  12. Re: Do you use miniatures?

I apologize for not reading all the posts in this thread, so this might have already been said somewhere.

We found a vendor at Gen Con last year; unfortunately, I can't verify the name right now, but I think the company was Fantization Miniatures. They were sharing a booth with someone else that did landscrape stuff.

Anyway, they had a complete line of Superhero miniatures. My husband was excited to find them because until now we have always used fantasy miniatures.

No clue if they have a website or if they will be at Gen Con again, but maybe you can find them.
