Q: What's that sound of "I DON'T WANT TO EXPLODE TODAY!" we're hearing on our sonar?

A: The world is insane. You are even more insane if you expect it to make sense!

Q: What's your take on this evolution, Gunny?

A: Frankly, Susan, if this is your best... maybe you oughta keep it to yourself...

I know this may be pimping a competing company's product, but I would seriously consider having a look at GURPS Special Ops, if you can get your hands on a copy. It actually has a list of undesired Disadvantages/Complications that would not be appropriate for a SpecOps character.

    Two Week's Burn Notice

Bulletproof Monk (The Tale of an OCD/pan-phobic martial arts master...)

    GI Joe vs the Volcano

The Last House (MD) on the Left

    The Rockford X-Files

Okay, some of these are reaching for it...

Since no one has mentioned him...

Jack Reacher (main character in the books by Lee Child), to fill in the investigator/muscle role. Former MP major in the 110th Special Investigations Unit. Only non-marine to win the Wimbledon Cup sniper competition.

  5. Re: Best, Worst and Strangest Police Cars

Kind of reminds me of an episode of Top Gear where the lads had like 1000 Pounds to purchase a used car and convert it into a cheap police car.

    Here are the three items...

    Jeremy_Clarkson%27s_Top_Gear_Fiat_Police_Car.jpg

This is a Fiat, complete with Bodicea-inspired wheel spikes to take out the wheels of another car. Built by Jeremy Clarkson.

A Suzuki Grand Vitara, complete with lots of blue flashies and a spiked tire trap on the front. Built by Richard Hammond.

    James_May%27s_Top_Gear_Lexus_Police_Car.jpg

Lexus sedan done up with police colors, and an ice cream van-inspired siren. Built by James "Captain Slow" May.

Obviously, none of the cars made the mark in the show, but still... was fun to watch...

It's called Soulgazing in the Dresden novels.

Right, I couldn't remember it at the time I was writing this... me, the guy who has avidly read all the books from the beginning.

You can tell what kind of week it has been...

Then again, I think I was suffering a migraine when I wrote the original post.

Third Eye was also the name of a street drug in Storm Front that did pretty much the same thing, but geared more toward the "mundanes" on the street.

I'm getting a better idea on how to construct this ability... but, keep the ideas flowing.

  8. Okay, here's what I'm trying to create, and I'm not sure if it's been done before. I don't have a copy of Ultimate Mystic as yet (planning to order it), so I don't know if it's in there.

Basically, here's the gist of what I'm trying to create...

In the Dresden Files books, the Wizards have this ability to look into a man's true soul, true nature through eye contact.

That's what I'm trying to build out, for those who are familiar with the books.

I'm also trying to writeup another psychic version of the same, uncontrolled via touch (doesn't always activate, mind you, randomly works). That one may be easier.

  9. Re: Urban/Modern Fantasy Questions

I ran an adaptation of Bureau 13 (modern, all over the USA) using Danger International. The major thing that I did that wasn't Hero-based was using B13 mechanics for magic and psi.

Current adaptation (simply entitled "Thirteen" and based more along the lines of Torchwood, in a sense) uses all Hero mechanics.

    A. This better not be what it looks like. And if it is' date=' that better not be [i']my[/i] electric razor.

Q: Just what is Bigfoot doing in the bathroom???

A: Well Jim, I don't see why you shouldn't live another thirty or forty years. However, you will be bleeding constantly from both eyes.

  11. Re: Modern-Day Urban Fantasy

I've considered running something along the lines of Jim Butcher's "The Dresden Files." But I've never gotten around to it. Everytime I read one of these books I'm always wondering how the spell system would work in Hero. Sometimes I'm thinking VPP' date=' sometimes MP. Ah, if only I didn't have to work...[/quote']

The magic system in those books isn't quite so clear-cut, apart from the alchemy. However, his shield bracelet and blasting rod can be easily created in game terms. The bracelet would be like OIF Personal, 6 charges. The blasting rod may give him a little more oomph in his fire blast spell, along with a skill bonus to represent the better control it gives him. Apart from that, it would appear that magic requires an incantation, perhaps some extra time on various spells. Dresden has yet to really show his full knowledge of spells, IMHO. He can't really be a mage of his level and know how to do only a handful of spells and make potions. *shrug* Then again, I could be wrong, since he does say that he's not that great at thaumaturgy.

  12. Re: XM8 Assualt Rifle.

The M14 was used in GW1? Wow, did not know that. I am shocked because where are the spare parts coming from?

Actually, the M14 is still a standard issue with SEAL teams because of its accuracy and knockdown power.

Springfield Armory has M14s built under license -- the M1 series. I don't think spare parts would be much of a problem.
