  1. Just out of curiosity, is there a file or book that lists every power, advantage, limitation, adder, etc. in the various books as well as where to find them? I keep finding references to such things (usually advantage and limitations) and I have no idea where to find the definition for them Thank you
  2. I remember reading a science fiction series where the protagonist can use his telekinesis through a closed circuit TV system. That got me thinking, how would I build a mental power like telepathy through such a system? The complication lies in the fact that telepathy uses LOS and LOS can't act that way. The only way I could think of to do this is a Range Modifier limitation with a No Range Modifier advantage. However, Range advantages and limitations aren't suppose to be used on a single power. While I know you can always override that, I was wondering if there is a more 'rules friendly' method Thanks
  3. Re: FTL Combat My question was inspired by the game "Star Fleet Battles" which a a board games of starship combat at warp speeds. In this game, combat speed can be anywhere from 1c to 32c. My intention was to imitate this if possible. MistWing SilverTail
  4. Does anyone have any house rules for faster-than-light combat? Using the rules in the game, it would either be ineffective or excessively expensive. Both FTL and Mega-Scale impose limitations that make combat ineffective and not using these makes the cost expensive. So, I was hoping someone had some house rules to do this. Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  5. I was reading though one of the 'Powers' books (either V5 or V6, don't recall) and I came across a Killing Attack power defined at 'Teleporting organs out of your target' and I thought of a variant. The basic idea was that it would be an ‘all or nothing’ Killing Attack, either you kill the target or nothing happens. However, if you don’t kill the target, then the target is Stunned. The basic idea is, imagine someone just tried to teleport an organ out of your body and failed… but you felt it. Failing to teleport the heart might feel like an almost heart attack; the lungs… can’t breath for a second; etc. Anyway, what I was wondering is how would I make a Stunning attack. My immediate thought was to make a second attack with a limitation. The drawbacks to that are; first, I don’t know what the limitation would be; and second, keeping the cost reasonable (I figure the overall cost should be close to a similar Killing Attack but without the ‘all or nothing’ limitation) I would appreciate any suggestions MistWing SilverTail
  6. I have an idea for a power and would appreciate any help in actually making it. Basically, the power generates an energy disk that allows Non-Combat Flight. The disk allows others to jump on and ride along and jump off when they want. The problem is that my character is a Shape Shifter, able to assume a form as small as a mouse to as large as a dragon. And, as I change size, so does the disk, which also affects the number of people who can ride along. I figure I would use Usable On Others, but I have questions about it. How do I alter the number of passengers based on its size? What would be a reasonable number of people per square meter? Being on the disk, the passenger must be within proximity to me. However, none of the supplied catagories is appropriate? So what proximity category would be appropriate? And, any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  7. I was watching some old episodes of Lost in Space and it occured to me... would the Jupiter II be a base or a vehicle? Since it's a spaceship, it's obviously a vehicle. However, it spent half of its time on the ground with its engine offline, which would make it a base. Opinions? MistWing SilverTail
  8. According to the cost breakout, it doesn't have Range. However, the description implies that it does Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  9. The cost of making a Psychic Bond is +5 points to bond to 1 person. If you want to have a Bond with more than 1 person, is the cost +5 points per person or is it +5 for x2 Bonds (similar to the way that the rest of Mind Link works) I read in a story (Wizard of Karras) about a character who was actually 6 clones sharing a Bond with each other and I was curious about the cost. Would each clone have to pay +25 points to link to the others, or +20 with the doubling effect? Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  10. When calculating the average damage when duplicates recombine, do I base it on the number of duplicates made or the number of duplicates possible? For example, I can have 4 duplicates. I make 1 duplicate. During combat, both my base character and my duplicate take damage. When I recombine, do I divide the damage sum by 2 (base + 1 duplicate) or by 5 (base + 4 possible duplicates)? Assuming the divisor is based on the number of actual duplicates, is there any particular reason why I couldn't generate all of my duplicates and then recombine so that the divisor is increased? I realize that you can't normally duplicate and recombine so that the damage averaging partially heals you. But that assumes that there are no duplicates already existing. Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  11. A quick question: Are there any significant changes to the skills from the 5th edition to the 6th edition? I have the Ultimate Skills book and I was wondering how much of the book is changed, if its changed at all. Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  12. Re: Hunted Power Level Thanks for the suggestions. Actually, neither of us even thought about Social Complication... it never occured to us. She's decided to go that route.
  13. This concerns the Hunter complication. Would you allow an 'Appearance Frequency' of 'Rare' for a cost of -5 points? The idea came from an old 'Star Trek/Superhero' game we had. My character was from a race that hated another race (Race because Race B felt they had the Divine Right to enslave my race and did everything they could to accomplish that. So, every member of my race had both a Psychological complication (Hate Race and a Hunted (Hunted by Race . However, Race B only rarely showed up in the game... much less than an Infrequent frequency is suppose to be. So, I was curious if an even smaller Appearance Frequency would be generally acceptable MistWing SilverTail
  14. One part of the Hunted complication is 'Capabilities'. In general, is a large group of normal people considered Less Powerful, As Powerful, or More Powerful than a Superhero PC? One of the characters in my group is a Healer and she wants to take a Hunted where normal people constantly want her to heal them. We can't decide how capable we should make the Hunted. On the one hand, no individual person is as powerful as the PC. On the other hand, there are a lot of them (We all agree that the group has Extensive Non-Combat Influence) Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  15. I am a bit uncertain about the interaction of AVAD and Damage Reduction and would appreciate some clarification. From my understanding, the following is valid: I have Damage Reduction (50%, Resistant, ED) and 10 points of Mental Defense. I am attacked by a Killing Attack, AVAD (Mental Defense) So, I subtract 10 point from the attack due to the Mental Defense. I then divide the remaining damage by half for the Damage Reduction (Assuming the base Killing Attack was an ED attack) Is this correct? If not, how is Damage Reduction applied to AVAD attacks? Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  16. I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but I noticed an error in the FTL table. Specifically, the approximations are off. I first noticed it on the chart at level 56 where it says that 8,000,000 lightyears per year is equal to 1 lightyear per second. In reality, that's 1 lightyear every 4 seconds since there are about 32,000,000 seconds in a year (31,557,600 if you want to get picky). I noticed other entries also are in error. It appears to be a 'creeping error' caused by doing the math on the approximate value rather than doing the math on the actual values and then rounding to the nearest convenient value. As the title says, just a minor thing. Something I first noticed in V5's Ultimate Speedster MistWing SilverTail
  17. I'm trying to build a power I cal a 'Floater Disk'. Basically, it's a large disk that flies around. I control the disk. It can carry others and they can jump on or off at their leasure. My question is, should this be built using 'Usable Simultaneously' or 'Usable as Attack'. 'Usable as Attack' would seem to be correct, but it precludes me from using the power myself. Plus, the power is not actually an attack and the recipient can chose whether to be affected by the power or not. 'Usable Simultaneously' would allow me to use the power myself, but would allow others to control the disk (which they can't). I would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  18. I'm trying to build this in Hero Designer. What is the proper way to do this? I have 60 points of Growth, which incurs a -8 to my DCV. I want to buy skill levels to offet this. However, I can't figure out how to do this. Also, since this is the only thing that the skill levels can be applied to, is it legal to make them Persistent? Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  19. I want to add Power Defence to my Entangle (to block Drains, etc) and I was wondering how to do it. Any help would be appreciated
  20. I want to build a character who has persistent Shape Shift except that she has to use End to change shape. The idea is that she uses an End Battery to change and can't change again until the End Battery is recharged. She doesn't change back, even if she's knocked unconscious. In addition, she can remain in a shape until she chooses to change her shape. According to the book, you can't buy Persistent unless the power doesn't cost End. I was wondering if I missed something before I go 'illegal'. Assuming I have to do it 'illegally', I'm thinking of using: Shape Shift, 0 End, Persistent, Cost End to activate (-1/4). Would this be correct? Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  21. I have 2 questions concerning the cost of a limitation on Multiform. I would appreciate any help with these. 1. According to the book, if Multiform has the Charges limitation, each Charge allows a person to assume a different form and revert back to her original form. Question: What would the cost be for a version of Charges that didn't allow for a reversion? Basically, each time she wanted to assume a form, whether a new form or her base form, she would have to expend a charge. I feel that this should be worth more than the standard Charges limitation since each of the new charges is now only half as effective. Plus, she now has to pay more attension to the number of charges she has left, lest she get trapped in an alternate form until the Charges re-charge. 2. According to the book, if Multiform has the Focus limitation, loss of the focus automatically causes a person to revert back to her base form. Question: What would the cost be for a focus that didn't allow her to revert? In other words, she would need the focus to change back to her base form. Note: I don't intend to actually alter the cost of the Charges or Focus limitation. Instead, I'm after an additional limitation (or two) to cover the extra cost. That way, I don't complicate things My overall idea is that my character has a magical collar that allows her to assume a variety of avian forms. However, the collar has a limited number of charges and each a charge from the collar is required to make any change, even back to her base form. The collar can be recharged by soaking it in a bath of certain chemicals... said chemicals are not too difficult or expensive to acquire. The nature of the collar opens up a few plot ideas. If she assumes the form of a crow for example and runs out of charges, what now? It can be anything from inconvenient (having to wait until her teammates mix a new batch of re-charge mixture and soaking the collar overnight) to being a real problem (if she's well away from headquarters, she has to fly back and somehow signal to her teammates what her problem is). And the loss or damage of the collar adds to the plot ideas. It even allows for my character to be out of the game for a while (for those times when I'm out of the area). For example, she's on vacation on the other side of the continent and changes into a crow. Having lost count of how many charges she's used, she discovers that the collar's exhausted. The keys to where she's staying are in the pockets of her clothes that she had on before she changes, so they've vanished and can't be recovered, so she can't get into her place to soak the collar (not that she could take the collar off to soak it in the first place). So now she has to fly across country to get to her teammates. If more 'out of game' time is required, her arch-enemy (who wants the collar to study and replicate) catches her in a net and removes her collar. To keep her out of his hair, the villian donates her to a zoo where she's kept caged and on display until I (the player) return and she can be released, the collar recovered and recharged I would appreciate any help in determining the limitation costs. I would also appreciate any ideas or suggestions regarding my overall idea. Sorry about the rambling nature of this... It's a bit late and my mind keeps wandering. Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  22. Hi there. I was reading your FAQ and noticed a Q-A that has me a little puzzled and I was hoping you could clarify it for me. The Q-A is from the Mental Powers category and is repeated here (I’ve also provided the previous Q-A to provide context): Q: How can a character buy the ability to switch between classes of minds? A: Via Multiform. The alternate form is the same as he is, but with a different class of mind. However, note the next answer, which explains that normally Multiform doesn’t change the character’s class of mind; what’s described in this answer is a special use of Multiform that only changes the character’s class of mind. * Q: If a character has a Multiform that lets him switch to something other * than human (say, a wolf), does that change his class of mind? * A: If the wolf retains human intellect and the like, then he’s still got a * Human mind. If not (if the character becomes completely wolf-like * mentally [to the point where his INT and EGO drop to wolf levels, etc.], * or loses his personality to the effects of the Personality Loss * Limitation), then he’d have an Animal mind. * Of course, he could have both; you can take that as a 5-point Physical * Limitation. That’s probably the best solution in most cases. My question is in the last line... the 5-point Physical Limitation. I am wondering if that’s an error. I don’t see how having a Wolf form, with an Animal-class mind and your human intellect, etc. would be a limitation/disadvantage. After all, it allows you to break most Mental Powers instantly. Shouldn’t it be an advantage/adder to Multiform? Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  23. I have two related questions concerning Multiform limitations 1. If Multiform is purchased using Charges, each charge allows a change from the base form to a second form and back again. How much of a limitation would it be if each charge only allowed a change to a form and not back to the base form? Thus, is a heroine has this limitation, she would have to pay attention to how many changes she has made or else she could change into a raven (for example) and not be able to change back until she re-acquires some charges 2. If Multiform is purchased through a focus, if the focus is lost, our heroine would automatically change back to her base form. How much of a limitation would it be if she was stuck in her current form until she was able to recover the focus? This opens up a few good scenarios such as a bulky focus, requiring her to return to the focus to change back to normal, or a fragile focus that, if it gets broken, means that she would have to repair the focus before she could change back (a significant problem if she's trapped as a raven or a dolphin or other animal with no hands) Thanks MistWing SilverTail
  24. Re: Making a Force Field Bubble Thanks for your replies. I gave her your ideas and she decided that the FW + Indirect NA best fit her idea of how the power worked. She originally opposed the UBO advantage because of her primary power of Size Change. If she changed her size, the number of people that could fit inside her FW would change. Then, after reading the posts, she realized that there would be a maximum size she (and thus, her bubble) could protect. So, she seriously started thinking about that for a while. Until one of our players mentioned that a UBO would not protect items (ex: cars). So, she looked again at the other ideas and decided that the FW + NA would be closest to what she wanted. And, to prevent player abuse, no one else could fire out of the FW since they wouldn't have the Indirect NA Thanks for your input MistWing SilverTail She initially liked Prestidigitator's FF idea but realized that
  25. Re: Question: Movement 'Trick' Thanks everyone for your insight. It looks like I can just ignore the 'problem' MistWing SilverTail
