  1. Wow! Lots of good advice. Thanks everyone who posted. The Alien Wars is really spiffy, but since I have to wait, I think I'll start with Star HERO (to help define the Sci-Fi element at least) and the Ultimate Vehicle for all the nifty stuff they'll be driving around in, and facing off against. Thanks again!
  2. I want to run a HERO game geared to sci-fi war, similar to Starship Troopers and the game Halo. Any suggestions on any HERO supplements that might help me create and further define the setting?
  3. Well, one question does come to mind off the top of my head. Combat skill levels. I know how they work regarding combat, just not entirely clear on which groups they apply to, what they can be bought for (again, which groups), and how they're recorded on character sheets. Also, anyone know where I can find a good listing of pre-made characters (complete with points cost)? I think seeing some finished products will help me through a lot of things.
  4. Thanks again. I might do a heroic fantasy (low-magic) or heroic modern-era (team of people, some guns, kinda hi-profile SWAT to foil bank robberies and the such) one. The Powers section is starting to come to picture the more I read through it. Doesn't seem all that hard, with a few notable exceptions that are already given extra care. Combat's still got me a bit fuddled, but I'm sure that'll clear up to. Just seems to be a lot of book keeping that slows things down (I like the look of it so far).
  5. Thanks for the information, guys. Read through the other topic and found it pretty useful. Got anything more HERO specific?
  6. I'm pretty new to HERO. Read through the book kinda hodge-podge so far, but I really like what I see. Unlike most games where the "possibilities are endless", I feel it's true for HERO. The book is rather daunting, though, with all the rules and special cases, even for someone who reads through new RPG books each week. I was wondering what helpful hints and tips you more experienced HERO gamers and Narrators can give for running the first few games. Also, I was wondering if there were any gamers in the Ann Arbor/Adrian area that wouldn't mind either 1) a new player or 2) someone that'd sit in just to watch and get a feel for the game. If so, drop me a mail at muawijhe2000@yahoo.com Thanks in advance and game on.
  7. I'd say it'd work, and the high-magic (so to speak) of WoT wouldn't throw things off too much. Sure, there's powerful magic in WoT, but not everyone who walks around can sling it. In fact, up until the events in the WoT books, it was dwindling (it's mentioned many times that the White Tower was having difficulty finding new applicants each year). You could probably play quite a few games of WoT (d20 or not) probably before even encountering any magic, especially if running a politically oriented campaign.
  8. Wow...I really do have to thank all you guys for the wonderful input. Markdoc, you pretty much just etched out the last bugs (and so will have something if your screen name written into a part of the plot in honor, hehe). And the only useable at night limitation sounds good too, Syberdwarf! Thanks again. Once I get this all worked out I'll post the final stats for everyone to see, if they're interested.
  9. The vampire is more of a unique opponent, rather than a run of the mill enemy. In my setting, only one exists for his sins...simulated from the Dracula story (Stoker), but altered some. Instead of crosses, the severed and dried legs of chickens can be worn around the next (must be in plain sight) to repulse the vampire. As for the attack, the vamp just open his mouth, takes in a deep breath and the target's soul is sucked in (no more than one or two attacks, otherwise even the most powerful enemy will be cut down by then). Decided to scrap the zombie idea for the victims. Maybe a super-powerful DRAIN attack, targetting BODY instead of STUN?
  10. Probably already been covered earlier, but it's late, I'm tired, and not in mind to flip and read-read back through all the old posts...but maybe some new powers (or examples of old ones) fitted in new and interesting ways to a fantasy campaign (aside from just spells). Think of classic RPG games like Legend of Dragoon where the characters can transform into quasi-dragons, or midieval Japan (classic Chanbara period) where samurai from different schools have different forms of ki or energy strikes with their swords.
  11. Everyone else seems to have at one point or another covered everything I do and don't want to see in FH, and that in turn has only gotten me more hyped for the release of this book. So hyped, in fact, that as a long time lurker I've actually decided to sign up for a forum account here. What'd I would like to see, not so much *in* FH as *about* FH, is how much longer? How long must I wait!? Ahhhh! My money is saved...all the other books bought...cannot wait! =)
