  1. Re: Paris Hilton as a super villain

Actually, it could be fun to make her a Maenad high priestess of Dionysus, in his role as god of debauchery and madness. On the surface she's just another celebrity and party girl; her actual goal is to destroy powerful men while "empowering" women by turning them into lesser Maenads. Take it figuratively, or go the whole way and have her party girls hunting handsome and rich young men through the Hollywood hills, finally ripping the men to pieces in the name of their god.

Power set would be basic Super Strength and Toughness, plus basic Greek style magic (prophesy; speaking with the dead; magical beasts or vehicles; transforming humans into beasts and monsters through orgistic rituals).

  2. Re: reincarnation

Thia: The kid has been around for 18 years, doing shtuff, getting known, etc. So there's someone "already their" that has to be changed. Theirs a history the "target" has, people think they know this guy/gal.

And its 18 years not 1 hour.

  3. Re: Nazi Flying Saucers

Which Marvel Comics already did. Check out the first Essential Marvel Two-in-One for more: The Thing travels back in time to WW2 and fights giant flying swastikas' date=' controlled by a brain in a jug no less, as they rampage through Manhattan![/quote']

    GMTA!

  4. Re: I need a function!

    "Jerkin, Schmerkin, its a doublet"

The Schmerkin is a rennasance (how do you spell that?!?) mans outer coat. Looks just like pix from tudor England. But its bullet proof! Even stops bruises and knives.

    15PD/1ED locations 9 - 13.

    Next: The Rainbow Pickle

  5. Re: I need a function!

    Next - Raffenstaffers Year Planner

Looks like ordinery planning book; the kind you write down things to do, track money&time, all that shtuff. Its for a whole year.

BUT! the first 7 things you write down "to do" you WILL do. Like it or not, good at the time or not, you WILL do them.

Good thing? If you write down something you 'spect someone else to do, they WILL do it (unless dead or the like).

    Next, The Perpetual Motion Calendar.

  6. Re: If You Draw It...They Will Come

A slightly different Idea, I used once for a Golden age game.

    Puma

An American Indian who had left home to work on various construction crews on the big projects in the 30s. (Not sure what it is called but did the High work, walking the steel beams, etc.)

What what is calld? Mohawks famous for working, skyscraper construction was the job. AKA "ironwork". AKA "steelwork".

For the truth, for The Straight Dope, see http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/659/why-do-so-many-native-americans-work-on-skyscrapers

  7. Re: Looking for a good name for a Martial Art

I think I'll just go with Pankration Effemanitus with Oppulentia and Potentia as the substyles. Sounds close enough for government work. Thanks everyone.

"Effe|mina|tus -a -um" Means "effeminate" and is insulting.

"Fe|mina|rum" would be "Women's" so its right.

  8. Re: Money in Fantasy Setting

It's fantasy! Whatever you want to use for money is OK. Sheesh. It's not re-creation' date=' it's recreation.[/quote']

Some people like something that sounds likely. Some don't care. Don't get done on people for wanting more "likely" than you do. OK? :)

  9. Re: Free Strike

Expensive way: buy Continuous and Damage Shield as naked Advantages on your STR (as naked Advantages, you don't have to use them all the time).

Cheap way: Hold your phase--as soon as the ninja moves in, punch him. If you buy Autofire, 2 shots (or 3 or 4 if kicking fits the character concept), as a naked Advantage on your STR, you can hit the ninja multiple times. NB: this does not allow hitting all the ninjas that attack, as Continuous & Damage Shield do.

  10. Re: reincarnation

I Shall Return: xd6 Major Transform (Mental), target's mind into mine, transform "healed" by dying; Based on ECV (+1), Works Against EGO, Not BODY (+1/4), Triggered (by dying) (+1/4), IPE, mental sense group (no "partially transformed" effect) (+1/2), Standard Effect (+0), Limited Target (humans) (-1/2), Extra Time (18 years) (-6 1/2), Gradual Effect: one year (-2 3/4), No Conscious Control (-2)

Put as many dice into it as you think necessary.

You might consider Independent. As well, you could change the Limited Target Limitation to "Those who are born the same day I die" and make it -1.

  11. Re: EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle

Apparently it is. In the movie it shrugs off AK-47 hits and drives through the explosion of a howitzer shell.

    Interesting.

In the real world, that would mean beefing up the suspension a whole lot.

Oh, they missed a trick; a caltrop or oil-slick dispenser. :eg:

After all, it's not like an RV can out-run anybody.

  12. Re: Nazi Flying Saucers

I'd like to think so' date=' but I'm afraid in all too many cases sheer lust for power is all that was needed to become a mass murderer.[/quote']

I would disagree; someone doesn't necessarily need to kill by the thousands and millions to seize power, nor keep it. It is paranoia that leads someone to do that, believing it necessary to keep power.

Though you are right that lust of power can give the impetus to that paranoia. In fact, I'd say lust for power is almost always what gives impetus to the paranoia.

  13. Re: Paris Hilton as a super villain

Why can't it be both? As a Disad, it'd be something along the lines of this:

Distinctive Features: Aura of Skankness (Not Concealable, Noticed and

Recognized By Everyone, Causes Major Reaction).

That is how I would build it.

As a Power, it'd probably look like this:

Aura of Skankness: 12d6 Mind Control; Single Command ("Look at me! I'm

    a major-league skank!")

EDIT: Forgot to add No Conscious Control to the Power...oops.

    Major Tom :D

I would make the single command "Think of me as the ultimate skank." Also, I'd make it Always On rather than No Conscious Control. And, I'd give it AoE, Non-Selective and Line of Sight --- say, didn't v5.5 add a LoS option to AoE?

  14. Re: R-O-L-E or R-O-L-L

Humans are social creatures. We like to associate ourselves with groups, usually allot of interconnected types and levels: Family, country, political party, interest, etc. In groups we like to have a pecking order and often pick some arbitrary measure to establish it and prove who's more closer to the group ideal and thus both due for dominant status along with praise and admiration as a "true believer' and member of whatever group. We will go to great lengths to satisfy these urges, sometimes frightening lengths.

Also as humans we tend to think of ourselves as belonging to (or hope we do) of the greatest group of all: The norm. Of course our favorite band in the best, our tv show is better, our style of play is the One True Way. Anything else is a deviation from our assumed "norm" and so an aberration at best.

The above is a little blunt and slightly tongue in cheek but I think that's part of it. There's also all sorts of issues about personal insecurity, ego identification with a certain product (RPG, sports franchise, etc) and the need to feel bigger but making someone else feel small. Overall not a great part of human nature.

HA! Everyone knows psychology and sociology is all bunk! Hmph!

    Just kidding! :D

  15. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

And to show just how bad the situation has become...

    Sundog GM
: The sacrificial victim drives the dagger into her own chest, and with her last breath points towards the river, and gasps "See! His herald comes!". The concrete and asphalt swirls, churning up into the sky, the column coalescing to reveal a figure - his golden armour tarnished, his cape tattered, his helmet broken to reveal the decaying flesh beneath. Destroyer - servant of Cthulhu"

    The entire Party

What you need is a "I just soiled my undies" smiley.

  16. Re: Looking for a good name for a Martial Art

IIRC' date=' it means something like "All Power(ful)", "All Force" or "All Strength"[/quote']

    Hope this helps, from wikipedia:

Pankration (Greek: Παγκράτιο(ν), Pagkratio(n), IPA: [paŋ.'kra.ti.o(n)]) is a martial arts sport introduced to the Greek Olympic Games in 648 BC and founded as a blend of boxing and wrestling. The term comes from the Ancient Greek παγκράτιον, literally meaning "all powers" and that from πᾶν (pan) "all" + κράτος (kratos) "strength" or "power".

All of which agrees with what a friend of mine told me.

Unfortunately, that means the Latin would be Omnivis, which sounds like a supervillain played for laughs, or a laundry detergent. :tonguewav

Pugnus is Latin for "fist". You could make up a feminine form, Pugna; that, however, means "fist fight, brawl".

Pugna|tor, -o|ris is "fighter, warrior" and masculine; you could invent Pugna|trix, -tricis as a feminine form.

  17. Re: THE BOOK OF DRAGONS -- What Do *You* Want To See?

They eat a stone, that releases hydrogen as it digests, the gas is kept in airsacs which like a modern zeplen allows for lift while the wings allow for navigation and a bit of thrust

This also explains how they breath fire, you see in the back of their throats is basicaly something similar to an electric eal, that releases electrical sparks, when they release the gas in their airsacs it is ignited allowing them to breath out fire.

What did you never see "Flight of Dragons"?

Yes, I have read The Flight of Dragons. I'm afraid you misremember an important point: they dissolved part of each vertebra, which grew continuously, to get the hydrogen.

It's been awhile since I read it, but I'm not sure the vented-off hydrogen was ignited electrically.
