  1. Re: Failure To Stop Drill

The quoted part was the double tap skills.

to turn a double tap into a FTSD, I was suggesting adding a Naked Advantage Resetting Trigger for the attack, with the Trigger condition being "If target fails to drop from Double Tap", with +5 linked Targeting PSL's (Bringing the total to +8) to always aim this "Free Attack" at the head.

Not cheap, but simulates the "trained 'til this was an automatic response" nature implied in the word "drill" by making the head shot a 0 phase followup Triggered action.

    Thanks for explaining. :D

  2. Re: "Uh ... you can *do* that?"

Out of curiosity' date=' what was the intent of the Limitation?[/quote']

    Ya talkin' ta me?

    ;)

Do you mean the "Only Persons She's Had Mental Contact With" Limitation?

In game, she was a Blaster with a few, weak mental abilities. This was a reasonable restriction on an otherwise rather flexible power.

Metagaming--so the GM would pass it. As I said, he liked separating the party, the players were unhappy with that, and a compromise was needed. The GM could still separate us, but my character gone them back together quicker. Everybody was happy.

Until she traced someone who'd put a mental whammy on her. :eg:

  3. Re: That's what I call a Presence attack.

After they'd loaded the Vortex Bomb and were driving away....

Dr. Callahan: "You know, the bomb wouldn't have gone off if you'd dropped it."

The Count: "My arms weren't getting tired either."

Who says bricks can't think on their feet. :D

Good job on the "crowd control"

  4. Re: Super Bark

I don't think it's necessarily one charge. It seems like it takes a while to recharge' date=' so perhaps extra END might be a more appropriate limit? I'm not sure there. YMMV.[/quote']

I haven't seen the flick, but would Extra Time be what you're looking for?

  5. Re: On A Power Build

Now, one of the twists is that once manifested the weapon can't be moved - it can be unsummoned/disappeared - unless someone grabs it, in which case anyone grabbing it can use it (or, er, shoot it down), even bad guys though the Character could simply unsummon it if needed.

Once a weapon is manifest they can rotate it' date=' but not move it, though remanifesting a weapon in a different spot is a simple action, and someone else can grab a weapon and wield it as long as 1) it doesn't leave the field of vision, and 2) they don't unsummon it on the wielder.[/quote']

I forgot to ask: can the "summoner" grab the weapon and move it? I.e., does the "Can't move it" only mean "...by use of this power"? Or is the summoner unable to move it by standard physical means?

  6. Re: Nazi Flying Saucers

And saying there's no Nazi Zombies is like saying there's no Jungle Princess of a Lost World, hidden in the Amazon/Congo/Borneo Jungle!

    Why, that's practically blasphemy!! :shock::eek:

No insult intended to those with strong religious beliefs.

  7. Re: Mammoth Genome Decoded -- Clones on the Way?

Let us look at this from the perspective of a criminal mastermind.

A problem with mammoths is that, like elephants, they have to eat a lot to stay healthy. Nobody wants wants to come rampaging out of a jungle leading a herd of skinny, malnourished Mammoths or Mastodon or even plain elephants. Your street cred as a viable threat to peace and harmony would go right down the drain.

So, as soon as they're decanted, you'll be sending your goons out to rob banks just to buy food to feed the growing herd. I mean yes, the goons could rob stores for fruit and veggies to feed the herd, but that, once again, lowers your credibility as a threat to world wide peace and harmony.

And then there's the whole time factor. You'll never make it onto the 10 most dangerous list if it takes you 12 years to bring your herd of Mammoths from infant to adulthood before embarking on your rampage against "The Society That Did You Wrong" . Which means you need some form of fast growth time compression technology. And if you've got that, why bother with Mammoths?

Likewise death rays mounted on the mammoths. Unless you're bolting the death rays to the Mammoths heads (which will cause you serious grief with the animal rights community - and those guys are nasty!) it'll take a lot of time and effort to mount them onto the beasts, what with all the straps, chains, battery packs etc. (Yes, batteries. What, you want them to trail extension cords while rampaging down the high street?) And thus you're time table for world domination will have to include days out for mounting, dismounting and servicing all this equipment.

I just can't see Mammoths as being viable in this, the year of the fruit bat.

That's Century of the Fruit Bat.

Azhural and M'Bu had no problem get a thousand elephants to Ankh-Morpork. All you need is the same level of determination, and the knowledge that a thousand elephants (or mammoths) go where they want to go. And remember, "mountain go up, mountain go down" :D

  8. Re: Slowly Expanding AOE

    Nope.

Very similar but mechanically different Limitations.

    Extra Time

(Hero System Fifth Edition Rule Book, page 186-187; Revised, page 290-291)

    Gradual Effect

(Hero System Fifth Edition Rule Book, page 192; Revised, page 296-297)

Well, tell it to the inventor of "Extra Time means slower travel" in Star HERO. ;)

  9. Re: "Uh ... you can *do* that?"

Setup: One party member has Mind Link, only if in physical contact. The GM likes splitting the party now&then, the players hate it. My character, thanks to a Psych Lim, has died of the stupids, so I get to make a new character.

I give her a low power Mind Scan, "Only Persons She's Had Mental Contact With," Instant (and No Mental Awareness and a few other Lims) The GM approves, knowing that she'll get the mentalist to Mind Link everyone, and now my character can find the other members (but not over too much of a range). This makes the players happy ("We can find each other!") and the GM happy ("Well, mostly...").

Until we tangle with a villain with very powerful Mental Illusions. Who we interrupt in a robbery. The villain gets away, we recover. Then my character goes, "I know how to find him!" And tries her Mind Scan. GM says "Nope, you haven't been in a Mind Link with him". I say, "But doesn't the Lim say 'Only Persons She's Had Mental Contact With'? Mental Illusions is 'Mental Contact', isn't it?" (NOTE: I'm very polite about this, I'm not arguing a GM call, I just bring this to his attention.)

GM thinks, and agrees, the Lim doesn't say what kind of Mental Contact. So she starts tracking the guy. Got to admire the GM; finding the guy was supposed to be the whole story arc, my character short-circuited it, and he winged it so well we didn't know he was.

  10. Re: On A Power Build

My thought? An Elemental Control, one slot for each of the basic Attack Powers, each slot with Variable Special Effects and Physical Manifestation. Saves you from having to worry about distributing "pool points".

  11. Re: 4th edition support

That was my earlier Champions experience as well. I even played a game where the average speed was more like 7-8. A speedster needed a 9 to stand out.

Unfortunately, that kind of Speed and Dex creep is the biggest reason that many folks complain that certain character concepts can't be built on 350 points. (This was part of my inspiration for doing another Justice League hero thread).

Sounds like you're talking about too little difference. In my experience, speedsters should be 3-4 SPD faster than "standard" characters, with bricks 1, rarely 2, SPD slower.

The games I've been in, there isn't much "creep"; everyone starts off like that, and increasing SPD is rarely allowed. Which keeps the differences in SPD set, and nobody "creeps up on" others.

Still, whatever works for you. :D

  12. Re: Whoops, folks actually liked this: Nu Warriors!

Much of the stuff you quoted was meant tongue in cheek' date=' in case it needs to be clarified ;)[/quote']

It's the old "suspended" versus "hung by the neck" thing. In my experience, the only way to play frat-rats that doesn't "hang by the neck" is as vicious anti-intellectual worms.

I'm not built like my avatar, by I am "presentable." Every male who has ever significantly harassed me, based on my looks (I am not counting single comments, overly obvious stares, and other insignifica) has been in a frat, was in a frat, or didn't go to college.

I can only speak based on my own experience. If there are male members of the board, who are/were in a frat, and who do not harass women, I thank the goddess for you, and I apologize if my statements seem to be aimed at you.

  13. Re: Project 1000: Build a Legend/Megahero

Most of the 1000+ characters I've ever built have been villains. One particularly nasty "Big Bad" I've recently written up weighs in at 7000 points; Nexus can vouch for this' date=' as he has seen an earlier draft of the character in question.[/quote']

7000 points?!!?

Wow. I'm not sure I could figure out what to spend that many points on.

  14. Re: Bolt, the super dog

Area Of Effect Nonselective (31" Cone

You don't need Personal Immunity with a cone, right? I can never remember, :o and I don't have the book at hand.

    Tracking with Normal Smell

How do you know he smells normal?
