An extention of 4th vs. 5th, sort of?

Granted, we now have "The 5th ED. book", "The Green Man Book", the new rule book, ok, ok "FRED" not to sure about that one.

I am in the process of changing all, yes ALL!! my characters from 4th to 5th ED rules so I can play with other groups, both face to face and maybe by PbEM.

I see some poblems, not with the rules persay, I am learning them as I go and am trying to fit characters to rules.

But with Hunteds, case 1.) change in the VIPER role call, have read about specificaly no VF-2, have not gotten the VIPER suppliment as of yet, am working on that as well.

case 2.) GENOCIDE!!!, I have several mutant characters, and they are hunted by GENOCIDE, are they now to be hunted by IHA? Also the Minute Man robots, it says they are version 7, I believe, um not to be critical but they do not look as powerful as the suppiment "Mutant File's" version 7, also what of the support staff? As we all know a villian group or organization cannot get the good guys in their clutches without some designated "henchmen" to maintain the inner workings.

Case 3.) High Tech Enemies; these were the guys that had or wanted to control the Technology of the world or distory it, again I have several characters hunted by "Master Control" and his group. I am sorry but Argent it not listed or given to be very detailed as to what they are about or what they can do, short of being a tech supplier, and as I recall that is what DANKO industries was all about. Again pointing to 4th ed bad guys.

As I have stated, I am working on transforming my guys to go with 5th ED rules to make GM's happy. I to being a GM am learning those rules and villians to insure I know what I am talking about.

Final question: Are there going to be suppliments to cover these things, like Mutant File and High Tech were for 4th ED?

Thank you all for your time, and please try not to dig me to hard on my spelling. Thanks B .:D

Basically I would look over all the characters and make a few changes.

Keep the history, especially the things that you liked for heavens sake.

The 4th books are good guides, but not infallible for instant changeovers ( KS: Viper Tactics Should be changed to Teamwork Skill rolls for instance).

Most of it should remain the same however, you just have a 4th feel to your 5th campaign.

And keep in mind 4th isn't gone, just like I still have a 1st Ed AD&D campaign waiting to run.

Histories and back grounds

I would and to the best of my ability shall, keep the histories and backgrounds as best I can. But are these examples going to be answered in future suppliments? From what I have read here it appears that if it is not listed in the new suppliments then it does not count. Another case in point is COBRA, I have a matrialartist who was affected by the "Cobra Gene" and was partially transformed. In 4th ED, Cobra had an animosity at best with Viper. Since my character did not accept a job with cobra and viper was responsible for destroying the lab he was a prisioner in, this makes him hunted by both. Now from what I have heard the leader of Cobra is now a scientist at Viper. Because of the loss of Cobra I loose at least 20 points while re-writing him. I suppose I could absorb this by experience, but the background is cut. I am working on changing it to VIPER hunting him. Just did not see the logic of loosing another, and IMHO a pretty good one, villian organization. I do not mean to knock VIPER at all, but maybe with so many people saying they are hunted, or watched or what ever by Viper, it may get mundane. I like having choices, perhaps in the future there will be other organizations to hunt my characters, I am, for now, going by what is out there and available.

THanks

Well, you're probably going to have to leave things well enough alone.

The New Champions Universe bears some resemblance to the Old 4th edition Universe, but not a whole lot.

King Cobra doesn't exist yet (see Sharper than a Serpent's Tooth http://www.herogames.com/Products/STAST.htm )

The IHA isn't as powerful/established as Genocide, and the robots are slightly less powerful. However, the heroes are, IIRC, less powerful than some of the mutants listed too.

So, if you're happy with the old universe, and willing to put up with not having new material, just stick with the old one.

You can wait a little bit longer, and see if something else strikes your fancy, and convert everything then.

There is not longer a VF-1 or VF-2. What there is now is one main villain group called the Dragon Branch. There is also a specilized group of agents called VMS-Alpha. But the new VIPER book has agent package deals now dealing with several dozen different types of agents.

case 2.) GENOCIDE!!!, I have several mutant characters, and they are hunted by GENOCIDE, are they now to be hunted by IHA? Yes, Genocide is now IHA. IHA is a much more clandestine agency than the earlier Genocide was. Actual write-ups for IHA agents will be in future sourcebooks, but you can easily use the 4e version of Genocide agents if it makes you happy.

As far as the Minute Man, the changing has to do with the fact that the CU power levels are lower in many cases than they are in 5e for many things.

Case 3.) High Tech Enemies; these were the guys that had or wanted to control the Technology of the world or distory it, again I have several characters hunted by "Master Control" and his group. Most of the older villains did not make the cut, many of them because DOJ does not own the legal rights to them. It was the company's past policy to not own the characters created outright, but to only rent them from the authors on a book basis. That is no longer the case in 5e. You can easily use Master Control in your game if you like though.

As far as ARGENT, think AIM and you will not be too far off the mark.

There will be books forthcoming but it all takes time. DOJ can only produce so many books per year (I think they are looking at some 20 next year) so much of this material will need to be GM created or piece-mealed from the various supplements and from the Hero Universe articles in Digital Hero.

Saying thanks

Thank you Monolith: I have been going back over the stuff I had written earlier, man it almost sounded like a whiner, again thanks. I am unclear as to the reasoning for the DOJ's earlier practice about not owning, and I do not understand it, probably never will.

I for one am looking forward to the next suppliments, and I do hope that they come out with as much color as the 4th ED. ones did. Yes I do still use the 4th ED bad guys from the suppliments I have mentioned in my games, heck I still got a game of "tag" going on with Weazel {4th ED} and some speedsters in my game, thus far the score is in Weazel's favor, but these guys are getting better, i.e. learning about clues, using their heads in stead of powers.

Will miss the old stuff, am looking forward to the re-re-writeup on Demon.

New question; Is it my imagination or have the villians gotten, oh I don't know, MEANER purhaps?

Am looking forward to the next round of "VILLIANS TO MAKE THE CUT " Still hopin for some on the Classic guys to get in there, i.e. Sunburst, and the like. Good luck with the rest, I will have more questions later, again thanks.

I think this just stems from the fact that comics have taken a slightly darker turn over the last decade. So while the CU still has a classic comic book feel it is not as silver aged as earlier material was. Plus I think Steve just has a darker design style than some others; which makes him perfect for Dark Champions. I have not had to change too many of the 5e villains to fit my ideologies so far though. I like the fact that most of the new villains are actually evil, as opposed to just being mooks.

I am fairly sure Starburst will see the light of day (assuming DOJ owns the rights to him) in the near future. Gigaton's origin makes mention of the "project" and I believe Radion is mention in one of the other books. So there is a good bet we will see other superhumans emerge from stasis.
