Kintara
Is there a "canon" way of doing a power that goes out of control on a failed Ego roll (somewhat like No Conscious Control would act)? My friend asked what the equivalent of the GURPS limitation "Uncontrollable" would be. I was thinking it could be some combination of RSR and No Conscious Control (NCC?), or perhaps it would involve a Side Effect (if so, explain pls). Am I missing an obvious "canon" answer? No Conscious Control does get very close, but it's missing the effect in its totality, from what I can tell.
Yamo
Side Effects would work.
Kintara
Ok, but how would you construct an Uncontrollable power with Side Effects? Could you stat a simple power out, maybe a 12d6 EB, and explain how you determined the Side Effect?
Yamo
Well, you'd have to be a little arbitrary in assigning a value. I'd say start with the -1/2 value for a Major Side Effect. If you want it to affect the character and his environment (either could be damaged by an out-of-control blast) add 1/4 for a total Limitation value of -3/4. If it affects only the caster's environment and not him, subtract 1/4 for a final value of -1/4. Then you just say: Side Effects: Character Must Succeed With An EGO Roll Each Time Power Is Used Or Lose Control Of Power For That Activation
Kintara
Alrighty roo! Sounds jiffy. And other goofy sounding gratitude.
Killer Shrike
Yamo nailed it. Combination RSR: EGO roll and Side Effects. The default version of Side Effects assumes there is a RSR or Activation involved and that the SE goes off if the roll is failed. If this is not true (ie, the SE always goes off), the SE Lim is doubled.
pinecone
Yep thats looks good...I used something asmost identical back in the olden days for fantasy hero...I called it "wild magic" for spells to dangerous to cast, but you know you want to!
