5ER Question

Here's me with Fred, but not 5ER, being answered in terms of 5ER.

Q) Would it be legal for the character to give Archie some of potion A, then give Bruce some of potion B, then give Charlie some of potion C, and have all potions remain in effect even though the MP is switching slots? This is the one I'm least sure about. It seems reasonable from SFX, but I don't know how well it meshes with MP mechanics.

A) See 5ER 286 re: Continuing Charges in a Multipower.

So what does 5ER 286 say?

Re: 5ER Question

IIRC it's either not clearly spelled out in FREd or it's a GM permission thing. I wanted to see if I could get a more definitive answer on it.

It seems abusable if you have several cont charge UBO powers and give all of them to a number of people just by using the appropriate number of charges, without at least buying lots of UBO simultaneously increments. I'm trying to build in some natural limits to what the character's potions can do, without losing the ability to give potions to other people entirely. I just need to figure out where the right places to draw the lines are. I think I have a good idea now, thanks.

Re: 5ER Question

You need to keep in mind that continuing charges have all the energy for the entire duration within them. Because of that they are not dependent upon you supply any conscious effort within your multipower. Also remember that only constant powers can have continuing charges unless you buy instant powers with the continuous advantage. :)

Good luck with the potions.

Re: 5ER Question

5ER says 'buy me'. :)

Generally anything that does not require maintenance (i.e. the effect would not disappear if you got knocked unconscious) does not disappear if it is activated as a MP slot and then the MP is shifted.

For this reason I am very careful about what I let players put in MPs.:sneaky:

Re: 5ER Question

My plan is to stipulate that the effect of any one potion will override the effect of any other potion that had already been imbibed. So, given all the slots will have UBO (or in the case of succor, for instance, not need it) the character will be able to give any given person exactly one potion at a time, but still be able to give different potions to different people. Hopefully that's a sufficient balancing mechanism along with the usual 'universal focus' constraints (i.e. bad guys could theoretically drink the potions too) that it will be acceptible in most games.

On the other hand, the whole exercise of taking succor/aid or UBO powers might be too much for some games with stringent rules about caps.

That sounds like it could probably qualify for Lockout (which is basically the exact opposite of Linked, and has a default cost of -1/2 IIRC, though it can be adjusted at GM's discretion if the restricted set of powers is really limiting).

I just remember that Continuing Charges basically get Uncontrolled for free. I believe 5E explains this sufficiently under the discription of Charges.
