I am an idiot.

I have the Heaven and Earth software and the space map stuff from the Free Stuff section at HG. I still cannot fathom how to use either of these applications to help detail (realistically) the three systems and Ahtabat Galaxy for my original Depths of Space game.

I know I want three green habitable planets, but that's about it. Can anyone help?

Re: I am an idiot.

with heaven and earth you can input a UWP

you can fiddle with the input numbers

if you look at the data tables for a random planet you can tell what to plug in to keep the world green

green planets arent hard at all to generate

heres a sample planet and data I generated,

Re: I am an idiot.

Cool... But, I don't know what the majority of that means. I was in a chat discussing this game last night and couldn't meet up with everyone.

I have three systems in a single galaxy I want to detail. All of these have at least a single green planet or habitable satelite. I am not using Traveller and all the details concerning trade, economics, and tech level isn't needed.

I don't know what the UPW stuff means, nor how to control it.

Re: I am an idiot.

the stats are as follows,

reading from left to right

Starport Type: A being the highest

World diameter in thousands of kilometers

Atmosphere type: 0 being vacumn

Hydrographics %, liquids not always water

Population:

Government Type:

Law Level:

Tech Level:

if you look in traveller hero this is also explained there

Heaven and Earth can be set in the options menu for level of detail

Re: I am an idiot.

there isnt a link on the free stuff page, its a program written for Traveller actually....

its a very detailed planet/subsector/sector generator, it can be toggled for various levels of detail along with variants of traveller, it will do basic planetary and system maps, and output detail to text or html, it only does 2D maps so the subsector and sector maps may not be as useful, although keep in mind each traveller hex is 1 parsec or 3.2 light years

its a free program that had a version 2 in development but that is currently in limbo due to the author having other committments

Re: I am an idiot.

hes not an idiot, it really depends on how much detail you want on a planet, and Heaven and Earth isnt that easy to use unless your familiar with Traveller in the first place.

I just reference it because its what I am used to, and it can produce a metric crapload of detail on a planet in a hurry, and you can then fudge whatever you want from there to get what you really want

This should be a big help...

What sort of star do I need to get a a system similar to Sol?

Ahh. Thank you. Adding "Traveller" to my Google search allowed me to find it.
