Logan D. Hurricanes
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Project A Trap of Tomes Setting: Fantasy Type: Room Consequence: Unconsciousness/capture (And some pain) Every good evil wizard requires a library. With books being so valuable and rare, extra security must be taken. This is a non-lethal (usually) trap designed to keep the library in good shape. No need to get blood everywhere in this beautifully furnished room. This library is a round room (5†diameter) three stories high. All of the walls, except for the door, are lined with ornate oaken shelves. Two large comfortable chairs are here sitting upon a lush carpet. The richly decorated shelves are filled with a tempting assortment of books from “A Birth of Dragons†to “Zoorjuk Blood†and everything in between. The books vary in size and shape, but they are invariably very heavy. Reading the titles will doubtlessly enthrall any characters that can read any language at all. When the books are touched without invoking the proper incantation, however, the trap is set. As any book is pulled from the shelf, a book from the opposite side of the room will fly from the shelf into the back of the offending character with great force. Then another book will strike, then another, then another! The books strike with great rapidity and intimidating accuracy. The heaviest books fall from the top shelves doing greater damage. If there are multiple people in the room, then the library will attack all of them at random. The books cease to fly only when everyone in the room is unconscious (or dead). Anyone attempting to leave will find the heavy door is locked. Books that attack disappear after one turn only to reappear on the shelf. The Library: Attacks with a DEX 21, SPD 8, and it always throws a book from behind the target. The Damage: Each book is 4d6 norm, except for the large books which fall on phase 12 for 6d6. The Door: DEF 7, BODY 15 Options: Too dangerous? Drop the DEX to 18 and SPD to 6 Not dangerous enough? Raise the DEX to 24 and SPD to 10. Increase damage to 5d6/7d6, 2 shot autofire Too restricting? Make door DEF 5, BODY

This adds confusion to investigators looking at a crime scene as one gunman can appear to be five or six. Super Squirrel
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Project Acid Cufflink Chamber HKA 1 pip, NND (Defense is Organic Surface or Body; +1), Does Body (+1) (15 Active Points), 1 Charge (-2), Extra Time (1 Minute; -1 1/2), IIF (-1/4), No STR Bonus (-1/2), No Knockback (-1/2). Total Cost: 3 points. Sometimes a secret agent needs to get through something smashing it out won't do. For that, there is the Acid Cufflink Chamber. The agent simply needs to remove his cufflink and flip open a release switch and pour the acid onto the target. The dose is very small but the effect is enough to eat through 32 millimeters of stone, 4 millimeters of metal and inorganic plastic. In addition to the low quantity of acid, the acid takes a full minute before it destroys the target.
Logan D. Hurricanes
Re: 12 Days of Christmas Project We Shall Not Meet Again… Setting: Champions Type: Deathtrap (Sort of) Consequence: Elimination, despair, psychological torture “Why don’t you just shoot him?†There are fates worse than death. Much worse than death. This is an expensive and complex trap, so it is saved for those that the trapper truly despises. The first step, as with most deathtraps, is to capture the victim. Once captured, a “carrier device†is implanted in the victim’s chest. The victim is awakened at which point the trapper will inform the still disoriented prey of their imminent fate. Seventeen minutes later, the victim disappears from this universe forever. The carrier device is a personal trans-dimensional movement mechanism capable of transporting the individual to which it is attached to an alternate dimension. The target dimension is selected completely at random, and the odds of returning to the home dimension are virtually nil. The carrier goes off every seventeen minutes. The time interval was chosen as just long enough (the trapper believes) to give the victim a chance to get oriented and perhaps gain some hope that it has stopped this time, but not long enough to actually take any significant action. The only way to stop the carrier is to remove it. Of course, it is surgically implanted, so this is an exceedingly dangerous. Even if successfully removed, the victim will still be trapped in an unknown dimension. Seventeen minutes isn’t a lot of time to gain allies, even if the new dimension is friendly. It’s not even much time to get food, or to sleep... The Carrier Device: EDM (Any alternate dimension), 0 END, NCC (Random destination; cannot be turned off), Trigger: Every 17 minutes, Independent Options: Too insidious? Extend the intervals to seventy-one minutes. Or seven hours. Not insidious enough? The carrier renders the victim slightly out of phase with their new dimension, making them permanently desolid. An odd side effect is that they no longer need food. Too restricting? Give the carrier device an external manifestation (ie a fin that comes out of the victim’s back). Or, make it an external focus locked with titanium steel around the victim’s neck.

Eyes: Blue Background: Selena Kameiro's life changed during a senior trip to the largest museum in the city. A touring display of ancient Greek artifacts was on display, and Selena was eager to see them...Greek history and mythology were the love of her life. At one particular exhibit of an astonishingly well-preserved amphora, she lingered while the rest of the class moved on. The decorations on the amphora depicted Poseidon creating the horse to give to the people of the city that would eventually be known as Athens. Compelled by some urge she couldn't name or resist, Selena reached across the velvet rope barrier to caress the amphora...and fainted. She wasn't actually unconcious, though...in her mind, she found herself in a great hall of alabaster, marble, and mother-of-pearl, before a throne made of gold and pearl. Sitting on that throne was a giant of man she had no trouble at all recognizing, due to her interest in Greek mythology...Poseidon! He explained to the startled and rather frightened girl that he was her distant ancestor, by way of Chrysaor -- Poseidon's son by Medusa (and freed from her blood, as was his brother Pegasus, the winged horse, when her head was cut off) and that when she'd touched a vessel sacred to him she, as his distant blood, had been brought to his attention. He told her that it had been long since he'd had a direct hand, agent, or champion in the mortal realm, and this looked like an opportunity too good to pass up. Selena, he declared, would be his agent and champion in the mortal realm... and to that end he would provide her with training, help her to call forth the power of her divine heritage that now lay latent in her blood, and give to her a few items or relics that might help her on her path to becoming a true champion and hero. "Since the modern heroes of mighty power are called 'superheroes'", he mused, "that is the calling that you shall answer. And, as the most successful heroes of ages past have done, I say unto you to find for yourself a mentor, a teacher, who will guide and train you on this path. I will aid from time to time, but the true effort and accomlishments must be yours!" Selena was awestruck at the enormity of it all, and almost overcome at the honor being done her. She managed to stammer out an acceptance before things went dark again, and she woke up at the aid station in the museum with most of her classmates milling around outside and her teacher trying to reach her parents on the phone. She hastened to assure everyone that she was fine, and her 'fainting' was probably because she'd been up all night, unable to sleep because of the excitment of the upcoming field trip. Her teacher, Mr. Fletcher, said that she still looked rather pale and shakey and that perhaps she should wait at the aid station while the rest of the group continued the tour. Selena agreed...after all, she had much to think about! Motivation: Selena has become very taken with the idea of becoming a superhero, the modern version of the larger-than-life heroes of ages gone by, and has thrown herself heart and soul into the task. She treats every bit of Poseidon's advice as the next best thing to a command, and so made a serious effort to find a superhero to whom she could apprentice herself; this means she is currently a mere sidekick, but Selena doesn't let that bother her -- she knows that one day she will be the greatest hero of all! Quote: "It's mythology to some, history to others...but for you, it's a ticket to some prison time!" Tactics: Thanks to Poseidon's training, Selena has learned to manifest an 'aura of divinity' that makes her more than she is, somewhat more than human. Her reflexes, durability, and physical appearance all become much more than they were, in some cases to legendary -- nearly superhuman -- levels. Her main power, though, is her ability to call forth monsters from myth and legend to do her bidding. As she is descended from Poseidon, and via a monster at that (Chrysaor was, technically, a monster despite his fully human appearance) Selena adopted the name of Echidna, known in Greek myth as the 'mother of monsters' for the famous monstrous offspring Echidna had, but Selena soon 'upgraded' that to "The Astonishing Echidna!" as she thought it sounded more 'superheroic.' (Note: Selena's Summon ability is limited to creatures of 132 points or less... which leaves a great many monsters unavailable. Instead of denying her these monsters, let her summon them...but reduce them in size and power accordingly. For example, since a unicorn costs 250 points, a unicorn summoned by Selena should be only half as large as normal, and the active points of all its abilities should be cut in half. A greater dragon, at 918 points, would be about one seventh normal size [about 4 meters long], its breath weapon would be about ½d6 RKA instead of 4d6 RKA, and so on. Be creative. The thought of a pint-sized hydra, miniature roc, or dwarf chimera is simply too good to pass up!) In addition to her ability to summon creatures, Selena has also discovered she has the ability to communicate with animals of all kinds, including mythological ones. She's able to understand them as clearly as if they were speaking English, and they understand her perfectly in return. Selena also has in her possession a number of mystical artifacts gifted to her by Poseidon. Her necklace (a thin silver chain with three pearls strung on it, with the outline of a horse engraved in gold on the largest pearl) allows Poseidon to watch over her and perhaps provide a small amount of divine assistance when necessary. She also has a kylix (a wide-mouthed cup on a short pedastle, with a loop handle on either side) she uses to contact Poseidon...she fills it with seawater and then chants prayers in ancient Greek, asking him to hear her voice and respond. If he does so, his face appears as an image on the surface of the water in the cup and they converse. Lastly he gave her an ancient chest, the Chest of Oceanus; every time Selena opens it, she finds a few handfuls of ancient gold coins and gems -- treasures lost at sea when ships went down. Though this means that she isn't really hurting for money, it usually takes her a week or so to find a dealer or collector and arrange the sale in such a way as to avoid arousing notice or suspicion. Campaign Use: The Astonishing Echidna is a medium-powerful sidekick who would do well with the right hero to mentor her as an up-and-coming superhero. She's serious, dedicated, and devoted to the task, but is not without a ready sense of humor. She's also not terribly tough, physically, and should probably be kept out of direct hand-to-hand fighting. Selena doesn't have any real combat ability of her own yet, either, relying completely on her summoned monsters to do that for her. Appearance: As Selena Kameiro, she's a very good-looking young woman of 19, a bit tall for a woman, in fit physical shape, with deep, clear blue eyes and hair the color of a raven's wing -- so black it's almost blue in the sunlight. She tends to dress in whatever the current fashion is, so long as it's not too outrageous. As the Astonishing Echidna, she assumes her divine aspect and becomes radiantly beautiful, with a commanding personal presence, dressed in a long, flowing white chiton with sandals and golden vambraces. Thanks; I've been having some trouble the last couple of days with my internet connection -- low speed, dropping the signal entirely for 10 or 15 minutes at a time, things like that -- so I figured something was going on with the network. Today it went down around 7:00 p.m. (I wasn't home, but that's about when the last piece of spam was time-stamped) and didn't come back up until a couple of minutes before 1 a.m. I hope that whatever was wrong, they got it fixed, period! Very cool. With some minor design tweaks, several of these characters might see play in my campaign.

Eyes: Brown Background: Jacob Caruthers was an unexceptional young man, and thus something of a disappointment to his parents, a pair of very successful attorneys. For his part, Jacob grew up hating the legal profession not only because it meant that in pursuing their careers his parents never had time for him, but because the profession (represented by his parents) made him feel stupid in comparison. Jacob didn't know what to do with his life, and by the time he was in his early twenties, still had no goal or direction, just an investment income (set up by his parents years ago) that made sure he'd never have to work if he didn't want to, and Jacob didn't. On day, during a heated argument with his parents about his lack of accomplishments, Jacob wished with all his might that he could simply take his parent's abilities and success for himself, thus "making something" of himself and finally winning some respect in their eyes. To his horror, his parents dissolved into two whirling pillars of legal briefs, which Jacob then felt himself -- impossibly! -- sucking in and swallowing, until the only trace of his parents was a burped-up paperclip. Jacob was nearly blind with panic, thinking he'd killed his parents...but a few minutes later they popped back into existence, apparently unharmed, but badly shaken and disheveled. The argument was at an end, and Jacob and his parents avoided each other for a time thereafter. Jacob eventually discovered he could do that trick at will, but only to licensed attorneys...and that he couldn't hold them for long, only about five minutes. He also found that 'eating' an attorney gave him heightened physical and mental abilities, and the more attorneys he 'ate' at one 'sitting', the stronger and more capable he became. He also found out, when he attempted to 'eat' his parents again to end another argument, that a properly-filed restraining order would keep him from being able to 'eat' that person! Jacob had finally found a goal in life, a purpose...as a superhero, putting attorneys to "good use." As Jacob says, "Finally! A use for attorneys!" Motivation: Jacob wants to gain respect and feel a sense of accomplishment... things that have eluded him so far. To that end, he adopted the identity of "Attorney-Eater Lad" and set out to make his mark on the world as a superhero... and to finally put attorneys to a good use! Quote: "Time for you to feel the Power of Attorney!" Tactics: Jacob has no real powers or abilities until he 'eats' an attorney, so tries to face opponents in a downtown or business district...someplace where attorneys are more likely to be 'available'. He'll 'eat' as many attorneys as he can get his hands on quickly, and then go to work on his foe. His tactics change dramatically from one situation to the next, because the more attorneys he 'eats' the smarter and more cunning and sneaky he becomes. The time limits on each individual attorney are seperate. For example, if Jacob 'eats' three attorneys in quick succession, and then manages to 'eat' another one two minutes later, that gives him the power level equal to four attorneys...but after three more minutes have passed, the first attorney reappears, dropping his effective power level back down to three attorneys immediately. When Jacob 'eats' an attorney, the attorney finds themselves seeing things through Jacob's eyes, and hearing things through his ears...but they have no physical body and are utterly unable to affect Jacob or his actions in any way, or make themselves heard. The only ones with which they can converse are the other attorneys currently 'inside' Jacob. When they are ejected back into the real world, the appear in the same spot they vanished...usually looking badly frightened, shaken up, and disheveled. None are eager to repeat the experience, and 'Attorney-Eater Lad' has a number of outstanding cases against him, filed by his 'victims'. Campaign Use: Attorney-Eater Lad is intended for a comedic campaign, as a sidekick to an older, more established hero...and hopefully one that isn't an attorney in his secret identity! It wouldn't take much, though, to use Attorney-Eater Lad in a more serious, or even darker, campaign. Appearance: As Jacob Caruthers, he is unexceptional in his appearance, being average and unremarkable for someone his age and height who engages in moderate regular excercise...such as the occassional game of tennis or handball. Jacob dresses casually but neatly, preferring slacks, loafers, and turtlenecks. As Attorney-Eater Lad, he dresses in an expensive, custom- tailored dark three-piece suit of impeccable quality, black shoes polished mirror-bright, a black domino mask, and carries a moderate-sized leather briefcase...which never holds anything except his lunch for the day.
