Wormhole
Shameless rip-off of a Micheal Crichton novel to follow... Primarily for characters who have connections to the Navy, NASA, etc. Also assumes your character has for some reason been called in for assistance. May not work for everybody, YMMV. The crew of a ship laying cable for a new international communications network is startled when their cable is caught on and sheared by an underwater obstruction of somekind. Fearing that said obstruction may be a lost nuclear submarine leftover from the Cold War, the Navy soon arrives to investigate. What they find is a gigantic triangular fin extending from a mass of coral deep down on the ocean floor. Buried in the coral, and attched to the the fin, is a cylindrical metal object half a mile long and the approximate shape of an airplane fuselage. The thickness of the coral around "the annomally" as it is being called seems to indicate that it's been down there for centuries. A dive team has tunneled into the coral and found a door into the fuselage. Exploration of the interior turns up evidence that the ship is an American spacecraft from the future, and a recording in the ship's computer shows the ship going through a black hole! A continued search of the ship leads to a cargo bay, where one of the ship's giant robot arms is still clutching a polished metal orb approximately 30 feet in diameter in its claw. WWYCD? nexus
Re: WWYCD: The Orb Eve would attempt to use her cyberpathic abilites to interface with ship's coomputer systems and see if she could get some idea of what happened and the purpose if it. If thats not viable her sensory system could provide some insight. Ivy could assist in learning the reearch by communicating with any plantlife, even microscopic to learn what has occured in the area over time or if there is any living thing in the vessel. Giving her past experenices with extra terrestrial lifeforms, she'd insist on a high degree of security and quaruntine for the site. The idea of some alien lifeform escaping into the Earth's ocean would give her chills.

Metaphysician
Re: WWYCD: The Orb Microman II: Totally logical to be called in, given he's a full life support android and is part of the Sentinels. Would not be surprising if the whole team gets called in ( while this isn't especially subtle, a crashed spaceship is also not quite as revolutionary a find as in Sphere ). The tech of the ship wouldn't be hard for Microman to investigate and analyze, its the sphere thats of concern. And frankly, if we can't figure out what it is, and does, post haste, than we don't deserve our status as World's Greatest Superheroes. The bigger question is, what to do with the sphere. . . Microman would probably suggest storing it in a vault dumped into the microverse, for safety. Hermes: Spectacularly unlikely to be involved in finding it during his home time period. Its vaguely possible he could get caught up in finding it along with the Avalon Foundation in the 21st century, though. Normally, Justinian Dragos is paranoid as hell about time alterations, but given the circumstances, he might relent a bit. . . considering the crash site will almost certainly turn into a battlefield with the Seven Thunders. Oh, and Hermes is probably number one most likely to activate the thing, for better or worse. Thankfully, mega int should mean a much easier time controlling the effect. . . jkwleisemann
Re: WWYCD: The Orb Void: Finance, as Dominic, a search to start looking into this. He's got the government contacts to minimize interference. Galaxy Girl: "Somehow, I just know this is going to be a bad thing... can I just send it back through a rift and we call it over with?" Outsider: How many tons of explosives do the guys upstairs have on hand? He'd blow this thing so high it'll be in orbit again before anybody gets a chance to risk making it do something bad. Sometimes, the most merciful thing in this universe is the lack of knowledge... he's a firm advocate of that principle.
BcAugust
Re: WWYCD: The Orb Cyrande would likely be called on to investigate what the alien artifact is. Surprisingly, she would have a fairly good chance to recognize what the artifact does. And when she does... Well, she'll wonder who made it. (Malva in our world having full immersion Holodecks, tazz, and thought reading AIs, this kind of stuff is hardly new to her.) Nox would hardly be called in on her own, though her powers would be helpful for an evac. However, if Diomedes is there, and this does so... Well, the question is whether the unconscious desires would be Nox's... or Shadowstrike(evil spirit she's possessed by). Artemis is surprisingly the most likely to find it, in her world(Hey, full life support, likes to explore, and can shapeshift to anything to survive down there) Of course, given our group, it's likely to end up a time traveling trap... *sighs* Ah, Tuesday. Kevin Schultz
Re: WWYCD: The Orb Unfortunately, none of my characters would fit for this - they're either too young or completely and utterly not affiliated with the US armed forces.
