Mister E
http://www.jointrobotics.com/activities_new/2005%20JRP%20Master%20Plan.pdf............. 13."something" megabytes Some nifty stuff here. Too many pages for me to bother reading fully. Page 50 has a nice graph that compares future prospected human vs. robotic intervention in warfare. A bunch of the currently proposed robots have their stats printed out (for instance, R.O.N.S. "The Remote Ordinance Neutralization System" weighs 600 lbs; can lift 60 lbs with its arm; runs for 2 hours; can detect nuclear and chemical agents; and I guess has a shotgun... pg. 85). There are a few concept art examples of armed robot tanks. Lots of bold rhetorical statements. Page 230 talks about a Japanese wall-cralling rescue robot, called NINJA (pictured on page 231). In a related article, it's stated that, "By 2035, the plan is for the first completely autonomous robot soldiers to stride onto the battlefield." There's also some discussion of the ethics involved and the potential for hacking military robots.
RPMiller
Re: US military "Joint Robotics Program: Master Plan 2005" pdf Sounds like a great idea. Let's make the first autonomous robots the ones carrying weapons.
