Air Pirate
Well, this certainly spins my propeller. Here are trailers for 2 new movies about the Great War. One by Peter Jackson. .
Flames
Re: Coming To A Western Front Near You DULCE ET DECORUM EST Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge, Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs And towards our distant rest began to trudge. Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind. Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! – An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time; But someone still was yelling out and stumbling, And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime . . . Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. If in some smothering dreams you too could pace Behind the wagon that we flung him in, And watch the white eyes writhing in his face, His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin; If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs, Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues, My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est Pro patria mori. -- Wilfred Owen, 1918

st barbara
Re: Coming To A Western Front Near You Who gets the credit for shooting down "The Red Baron"; Brown or the Australian infantry ?
Talon65
Re: Coming To A Western Front Near You The Red Baron looks really cool. Can't wait for that one. From what I understand "Crossing the Line" is just a short made by Peter Jackson to show off the new whiz-bang camera that's mentioned at the end. Tho' there's a lot of hopeful wishes after seeing Crossing the Line, I haven't heard of any plans for a WWI movie by Jackson.
Inu
Re: Coming To A Western Front Near You Who gets the credit for shooting down "The Red Baron"; Brown or the Australian infantry ? With luck, they'll leave it unanswered. =) I'm of the understanding that the evidence really points to the ground fire taking him out, but I must admit a bit of bias in that area, so I'd be happy just seeing it as an unanswered question. =) Edit: in fact, in that trailer, there are shots of artillery firing -- probably the Australian battery. Of course, I also saw someone take out a blimp with a flare gun, and the Baron seemed to be in a biplane. 'Course, he flew a lotta different planes, but some of those shots did look like the final climactic dogfight... not enough to really tell if they flubbed that one or not! Steve Long
Re: Coming To A Western Front Near You Darn cool trailer, at least. Let's hope the movie lives up to it!
Ian Mackinder
Re: Coming To A Western Front Near You Of definite personal interest. I am a very indirect non-blood relative of the Red Baron (Manfred von Richtofen to his friends).
