If something is so lethal, so dangerous, so insidious in real life that it makes comic book villains pale by comparison, it needs serious study, to improve to the level that a comic book hero would use it. I remember when my gaming group first heard of research on microwave weapons that caused the targets to lose bowel control. For a villain, plenty gross enough to use.. but for their heroes.. the characters had to improve it, by coming up with incendiary double knockback versions.
