Lawnmower Boy
Re: Interstellar flight by 2070? There's gotta be an algorithm that tells you how crazy a guy is by the number of uses of the words "I," "me," "mine" and so on. It would probably tell us that Pellegrino is, uhm, "reality challenged."
Nyrath
Re: Interstellar flight by 2070? Well as far as I can see there is nothing theoretically impossible about Pellegrino's design. But there are a few practical problems he brushes off. Such as the fact that in order to obtain the antimatter fuel for the ship one has to cover most of the surface of the planet Mercury with solar powered antimatter factories. This may prove to be challenging. And then there is the small matter of dealing with the implications of access to huge amounts of antimatter. You can imagine terrorists licking their chops at the thought of such concentrated, easy to hide explosive. Not to mention the fact that paranoid governments would take a dim view of any other government undertaking such a project. Oh, you want tons of antimatter for a purely scientific undertaking? Yeah, right, we were not born yesterday. You want to threaten us with antimatter weapons, don't you?
tkdguy
Re: Interstellar flight by 2070? I don't see interstellar flight taking place anytime soon. Interplanetary flight within the solar system, perhaps. Another thing I noticed is that this author tends to make several controversial claims in different fields. That doesn't necessarily make him a crank, but it's enough to raise a red flag. Still, it's good material for a Star HERO campaign.
Merovign
Re: Interstellar flight by 2070? It's fun to think about, but almost impossible to lay odds. The reality is it's either zero or one - it'll happen or it won't. Percentages don't come into it. It'll probably be a bit of a surprise when it happens, though. My SWAG? We won't invent it, we'll buy it.
