Sociotard
What skills/attributes should a Matchmaker (marriage broker) have?
BobGreenwade
Re: Matchmaker package deal? PS: Matchmaker, obviously, and that's the only definite one I can think of. Helpful Skills could include Analyze (Motive), Bureaucratics, Conversation, Deduction, Persuasion, and possibly Seduction. Bribery and Lipreading also strike me as potentially helpful for sneakier matchmakers. For the really sneaky ones (with a hint of Cyrano to their personalities), Mimicry and Ventriloquism. Basil
Re: Matchmaker package deal? KS: Local/Group Families KS: Local/Group Young Men & Women PS/KS: Practical Psychology KS: Marriage Customs Of (the group) KS: Religion (of the group) Seduction is inappropriate; a matchmaker is putting people together, not bedding them herself. Also, a matchmaker, properly speaking, is not sneaky at all; her job is out in the open. Though she does need Persuasion for those couples who should be together, but resist. Now, ordinary folks "playing matchmaker" may need to be sneaky. But they're not matchmakers, just wannabes and busybodies.

Sociotard
Re: Matchmaker package deal? Good stuff everybody. Analyze (Motive) and Bureaucratics seem like excellent ideas, and I already had Persuasion on the list. I did like the idea of using Deduction (of course! those two would make an excellent couple!). I also liked the idea of a required religion KS and a Local People KS. (Come to think of it, an SS: Politics might be a good idea, even at a fairly local level). And somebody rep Comic for me, because that stuff was golden.

Now, ordinary folks "playing matchmaker" may need to be sneaky. But they're not matchmakers, just wannabes and busybodies. Seduction would be appropriate in a sort of "usable by others" way. Remember, in the broader sense Seduction is more than just getting someone into bed with you. I posted the "sneakier" options for those matchmakers whose methods are a bit more covert -- Bribery when pointing out things like "this girl's family would provide a wonderful dowry" (or good career opportunities, or whatever), and Lipreading for being able to tell from a distance what a prospective catch seeks in a mate.
