Help with duplication

I am currently trying to make a duplication character for a friends game, but i am having trouble. what i want is to basicly be able to split my character into two new ones, and i am not seeing duplication letting me do this. do i need to use both multiform and duplication to get the effect i want? if anyone can give me a hand with this it would be much appreciated. also is their anyway to speed up the activation of duplication to a zero phase action?

Re: Help with duplication

Just to make sure I have it right: 1 Character splits and 2 Different Characters are there, with two completely different sets of Skills/et al.?

In that case: Multiform;Instant Change with a Duplication;Unable To Recombine;100% Different as a Power will do the trick.

This will mean the "second form" is really two different people (i.e. "Two Different Duplicates"); and it's a 0-Phase Action.

Be REALLY CAREFUL. I know for a fact, from experience, that a Multiform with Duplication is an extremely powerful, and potentially unbalancing construct. I used to for a character whose alternate form was an Unkindness Of Ravens - worked beautifully for the effect.

Just out of curiosity how is it unbalancing? To me the point cost for both would make it hard to make a powerful PC.

Re: Help with duplication

Problems with Multiform and (more specifically) Duplication:

You get three distinct skill and power sets;

you get to use two or more characters, with potentially twice as many or more actions combined, as everyone else uses one;

you get to neutralize any weaknesses any of the toons have by transforming to a toon that doesn't have that weakness.

Here is an alternate construction for Duplication without using the power. IMO and I think there's evidence to support it, "duplication" is a special effect rather than a power as it is perceived and presented in the Hero system. I mean, good, use it if you want to, but it's not strictly necessary as a dedicated ability.

The second superperson in the Dupe duo could be modelled by a Summon with a banishment Side Effect, linked to the Multiform; although it's a little more expensive.

The Duplication goes on the Second Form of the Multiform.

Main Character: pays for Multiform

Alternate Form: pays for Duplication.

A few Limitations, and each one only soaked up about 50 Points for the Multiform and Duplication respectively.

You can get a lot of power in that.

My character didn't cause a lot of problems, but they definitely had a distinct edge as one form was optimized for Combat, another for Recon, another for stealth, and a the primary for social interaction. Any one of those doesn't take too many points to put together.

Re: Help with duplication

the character i plan on building is a combination speedster/brick. the power i want will basicly split him into specialized versions of each. IE a pure brick and a pure speedster. after reviewing everything what you have posted gives me exactly what i want.

balance isnt really a problem, i and my GM are both aware how easy it is to break the game. all of his players including me are keeping ourselves in check.

we also have a small group and as i am the one with the most hero system experience everyone has agreed that i should make a character to help solve that problem
