Re: Home on the Range

This just shows that STR is too cheap now, because you get "all the other benefits" for free.

In fact, it is cheaper than free now, since the 30-STR character doesn't have to spend nearly as much on Figured Characteristics and may even get to buy some Figureds back.

One of those "all the other benefits for free" is a bump to HKA's. Removing that is a step towards better balancing STR. At least everyone who buys STR under the current model benefits from the exact same figured characteristics. Only a character who has an HKA benefits from the bump to HKA, and the higher your STR goes, the more your HKA needs to be to get the full benefit.

Going way back to 1e, the "can't more than double" rule didn't exist and most Bricks had a 1d6 HKA to take advantage of that. This was fixed my capping out how much the STR could add. But the same logic that says a dagger wielded with STR should do more damage would seem to indicate even more STR should add even more damage. If it's logical to you that your high STR character should do more HKA damage, buy more HKA. It's logical to me that my supersonic flying character has better PD, so I buy more PD rather than whine that Flight should grant extra PD.

Re: Home on the Range

In support of a move in Sean's direction:

Even if you don't apply AP limits, the effect of a damage power having ranged, etc. by default can be significant. There's a big difference between a lim and the absence of an advantage - and between an advantage and the absence of a lim - in MPs and VPPs.

E.g., there's almost no point benefit to taking a lim on one MP slot. If everything, e.g., defaulted to no range, I for one would just feel better putting that no-range EB in a MP slot.

Somebody in the 6e forum suggested that STR adds always should be normal damage. So if you have 1d6 HKA and 10 STR, you would do 1d6K + 2d6N; if you had 50 STR, you would do 1d6K + 10d6N. That could work.

That's simply a Multiple Power Attack like any other (which, unless you've reviewed the 5e changes, you may not be using, but nothing prevents using two or more attack powers together in a single attack action provided they are at the same target and meet other criteria like same ranges and same CV type).
