Hierax
Re: Generic SF Universe Project You could do both Space Opera and Hard Sci-Fi together but apart. Just have a multi-dimensional system like above and when you break the Light barrier you go into the Space Opera dimension(s) which bend + break the hard sci-fi universal laws of physics and when you pop in from those dimensions you have to adhere to the hard sci-fi universe laws. shadowcat1313
Re: Generic SF Universe Project I vote maybe on FTL Comms, if were going to use FTL Comm, I wanna see something big and immobile, like the HPG in Battletech or the VLC Array in Renegade Legion. FTL Commo exists, but its cumbersome, expensive, and takes a lot of time
Hierax
Re: Generic SF Universe Project Yeah, multiple types of FTL helps distinguish the different races/cultures. some gravity avoidance where you can't be near gravity wells; some at all, some just more dangerous. I used this for a Star-Trek-like Warp Drive and Star Wars -like Hyperspace thing. some gravity dependent where you rely on gravity to travel. I used this for a Jumping/Teleporting/Gating Star Drive. Hierax
Re: Generic SF Universe Project yeah, Renegade Legion had lots of good stuff like the FTL communications. Also great that it had the various levels of combat from Infantry - Grav Tank - Star Fighters - Huge-assed Battlecruisers. Plus Rome in Space is always a great Generic race/culture to have. Hierax
Re: Generic SF Universe Project One challenge is going to be keeping the various tech-levels apart so the uber-tech doesn't overwhelm and make the hard sci-fi stuff extinct but still be able to use them all to draw upon the full richness of the many forms of generic sci-fi. Kraven Kor
Re: Generic SF Universe Project My recommendation on that is actually 2 different Generic settings: One Hard-ish Sci-Fi, the other Space Opera. You really can't meet in the middle of the two and make it work for everyone's taste.
