Help Me Build Hex

Anyone want to wrte up a sheet for the following guy? I have written him up a couple times for a 400 point Hero game, but am having trouble being satisfied.

Character Name: Hex

Background/History: It is difficult to imagine a simpler life than John’s; he was born to a middle class Bremerton family the son of a trial lawyer and a nurse. John grew up in the suburbs and went to normal schools and otherwise led the most unmentionable child hood possible as an American. His father John Smith senior, his mother Jane and his sister Sally all likewise live in a perfectly placid and mundane life. Until at the age of 14 John developed the ability to perceive, absorb, store and covert energy around him.

Talking to his parents about this new development John set out on the path to use his powers to their maximum effect. He would get bachelors in physics to maximize his power use, join the marines to develop combat and leadership skills and finally apply to a federal agency to use his powers for the greater good.

With incredible patience John follower the plan laid out by his father at the age of 26 John with a Bachelors’ degree in physics, third Dan in Shito-Riu and an honorable discharge from the USMC, John applied with PRIMUS to work as a sanctioned superhero.

Personality/Motivation: John Jr is the most generic man imaginable, on the outside he appears to be a complete phlegmatic without any emotional investment. However on the inside John simply has self control, he loves the life he has been able to achieve as a superhero and loves his family greatly. The idea of being able to follow in his father’s footsteps helping people is in his mind the greatest thing a man could hope for.

Quote: “Hmm”

Powers/Tactics: John’s ability to perceive, absorb, store and convert energy allows him do virtually anything he desires. John primarily uses his powers for entangles, flashes, drains and other inhibiting attacks meant to aid his allies or restrain his enemies. Unfortunately Johns power’s always manifest as generic energy and as such always apply to the targets highest appropriate defense. For example if John chooses to attack a targets ED and the target has purchased ED with the limitation only versus fire the target may use its higher value. An attack versus PD where the target has limited PD only versus X would be allowed to use the higher and so on. (As a note while energy absorption is an inherent part of Johns abilities any other power feat -no matter how minor- requires him to expend energy.)

John’s sees the world in game mechanics much like MMO code rather than normal sight. This has the advantage of allowing him to “Analyze a Targets Power & Weaknesses”. This sight has been with John so long it is as natural to him as normal sight is for most people, However john cannot see normal light and task we take for granted such as reading text on paper require him to expend energy to temporarily see normal light.

This ability to sense the powers and weaknesses of his advisories does however make him incredibly dangerous. While his own powers cannot truly make fire or electricity, he is more than willing to tell his allies the weaknesses of opponents or use the environment to trigger true limitations.

Campaign Use: John is the perfect soldier and works best as a group member. While intelligent and skilled he is a poor leader in general as his phlegmatic nature makes people tend to overlook him.

Appearance: John is an incredibly average looking man he is of a medium healthy build average height with light brown hair, brown eyes and light brown skin that makes people wonder if he might have some native American or Arabic heritage.

Re: Help Me Build Hex

The "always uses best defense" could be a -0 limitation. It can't force him to go against PD instead of ED (or some similar sideawys move on the AVAD-chart) and limited defenses aren't that common.

Not having normal sense, unless he spends something on it, is tricky: Technically you are not allowed to Limit a normal sense but this might be a good idea to allow it anyway. The "value" of normal sight Group is given under Enhanched Senses. The other way is to sell the sense back, then buy a "Detect light" without Targetting.

Note that either way might affect the entire Sight Sense Group, not only normal sight:

His special sense would be best as two-parter:

On the one hand, detect Energy (a 5-pt, passive detect) with targetting and discriminatory. This is his normal targetting sense, to fight effectively in combat.

On the other, "Detect Weakness and Powers". This is definetly beyond the abiltiy of a mere Analyze: Weakness Skill. It effectively measures all the defenses (PD, ED, rPD, rED, Mental, Power, all 5 Flash, Damage Negation and Reduction) including their limitations and the enemies complications (Vulnerabilites) and gives you one output. Depeding on how detailed you want the information to be, you might need Discriminatory or Analyzing. Be aware that this is potential tool of metagaming so most GM's wont allow it.

For the special senses, I think it would fit to put them into the Radio Group.

Overall I think he needs more adventure hooks. What are you planning for his complications?

Re: Help Me Build Hex

He will be working in an alternate earth were he works for PRIMUS which reports to The Imperial Batalioneers under Istvatha. I will be the gm so letting the players have acess to npc limitations is okay [afterall they got points for them] most characters have a way of figuring out the bad guys weaknesses it is just easier for Hex.

PS: In case you did not notice the charcter is inspired by Steves new book.
