ayinde
I want to create a potion that when activated revels all magic users, magical creatures and items and characters that are enchanted. the way I see sfx is the room or area fills with a lite haze anyone with a magic background will gain a soft glow it wont tell how why or what type of magic. how do you feel this should be built. I should note all magic characters take the flaw magic aura
Hyper-Man
I'd start with Detect as the base Power. I'd probably add Range and some form of Usable by Others. Everything else is flavor.
Lucius
That's not a potion to reveal magic users; that's a potion to percieve magic auras of all kinds. Potion of Magical Perception: (Total: 17 Active Cost, 3 Real Cost) Detect A Large Class Of Things: Magical auras (Sight Group), Concealed (-2 with Detect PER Rolls), Partially Penetrative (17 Active Points); OAF Fragile (special) Expendable (Difficult to obtain new Focus; -1 1/2), 8 clips of 1 Continuing Charge lasting 1 Turn (-1/2), Costs Endurance (-1/2), Sense Affected As More Than One Sense [very common Sense] (-1/2), Extra Time (Extra Segment, Only to Activate, -1/4), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Requires A Roll (14- roll; Burnout; -1/4) (Real Cost: 3) This flask contains 8 doses of a potion that permits ordinary people to dimly see the tell-tale auras associated with magical or enchanted objects, creatures, and persons. Drinking the potion is a half phase action at half DCV, and it takes an extra segment for the potion to take effect. Each dose lasts one turn, or until a burnout roll of 14 or less is failed, whichever comes first. Others with magical senses can only detect the use of this potion at a -2 penalty. Potion user can even see magical traces through opaque objects that usually block normal sight, but cannot see through one enchantment to see another within or behind the first, and any Darkness or Flash that effects either magical or visual senses will spoil it. The potion will become inert if too close to any Dispel or Suppress Magic effect, and sometimes even if just exposed to any powerful spell. ayinde
lucius that is a good power write up but I wanted the power to make it apparent to anyone who is present when the power is used
Lucius
Do you mean, Everyone around points to anything and anyone who happens to be magical and says "Hey, that's magic!" Or Everyone around points to the guy with the potion and says "Hey, that guy's using a potion that lets him detect magic!" ? Lucius Alexander Hey, that's a palindromedary! ayinde
the first I suppose but I would guess being forced to yell" hey that's magic" would just be a odd side effect of the power
Lucius
The other would have been easier. The simplest solution is to make a zero point Side Effect (after all, it alerts the opposition that their magic items are revealed as such, that their disguised spellcaster stands revealed, etc) It that seems too cheap for the effect, I'd think it would be some form of Usable by Other, Limited to FORCE you to let anyone around see what has a magical aura. Lucius Alexander Hey that's another palindromedary tagline!
