Hyper-Man
From: http://www.rpggeek.com/article/13460298#13460298 What is the GLARP? Geek Lifetime Achievement in Role-Playing The GLARP is our community version of the hall of fame where we will induct lines of RPGs which have been the cornerstones of our hobby. See the GLARP Wiki for more info. The sensational six inductees so far: Call of Cthulhu, Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Traveller, Classic World of Darkness, and Paranoia. For this fourth year, you are allowed to vote up to 3 different games: one for 1st Choice, one for 2nd Choice, and one for 3rd Choice. If you only want to vote for one, that's fine (just leave the others blank). The polling system here doesn't allow us to restrict to voting only three games so each person is on their own honor to only vote for 3 different games - and should make their choices 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Leave the remaining rows blank. Admins will check on the voting if need. If you make a mistake, you can just hit the Clear button at the bottom of the poll. You can change your votes up until the poll closes at 19-OCT-2013 1:00AM EST (GMT - 5). If you want to vote games as "most influential to the hobby" feel free. If you want to vote based on "childhood memories of playing it", that's fine too. You'll notice that - whenever possible - there are no editions specified in this poll. That's on purpose - when you consider something like Dungeons & Dragons, you can consider a single edition or the entire line or any combination thereof. This poll is simply to recognize those games which have been cornerstones in our hobby and we are leaving the interpretation wide open. In short, the winners will be whatever game lines the community feels should be recognized. The list of nominees was chosen by combining last year's top 10 runners up with a list of new candidates that went through a nomination process. The goal is to come up with 20 entries (possibly more with ties). You'll also notice that many of these games have a long lineage - most that date back 20 years or more. There was no specific date cut-off employed, however. We will induct one new game this year, the top vote-getter. The next 10 vote-getters will be automatically nominated for the 2014 GLARP. The voting results will be shown live until voting closes on October 19th. The point system used will be as follows: * 1st place vote = 3 points * 2nd place vote = 2 points * 3rd place vote = 1 point
psyber624
Yeah, frankly this just seems totally bogus. The oddball random assortment of "nominees" that you are allowed to pick from seem to be from someones personal favorites with many powerhouse classic systems oddly missing while there are a large number of entries I haven't even heard from. These are the 2012 runner ups. Winners from previous years are excluded from future votes. We will induct one new game this year, the top vote-getter. The next 10 vote-getters will be automatically nominated for the 2014 GLARP.

psyber624
Yeah, i looked at the list of former inductees. No FASERIP, No Rifts, no M&M, and thats just to name a few. But Bunnies and Burrows, Das Shwarz Auge, Ghostbusters? If you are TRULY trying to create a Geek Lifetime Achievement in Roleplaying award then you need a list MUCH MUCH longer than the one currently available. Not to mention there is no mention in the Wiki as to how the current crop of candidates was arrived at. Its like someone took a list of their RPGs (or their favorites) and listed them for everyone to choose the "best" out of them. And note, I am NOT knocking the systems I listed here, just questioning their candidacy when other better known options are noticeably missing. Hyper-Man
So what? Yes, it's a popularity contest. So is politics. Big deal. HERO needs more fans if you, I or anyone else on this board wants to be able to find players for future HERO games. If placing on an arbitrary web poll helps one fence sitter decide that HERO is worth a look then I'll do what I can to support HERO on the poll. So far HERO only has 10 first place votes on the poll!? Just 10? (I guess that's about how many active posters we have on this board these days). Hyper-Man
GURPS has just 1 more 1st Place vote that HERO (11 vs 10) but otherwise has a significant Lead in 2nd and 3rd place votes. I can't believe that HEROdom can't get excited about registering to vote in a VERY winable poll* like this. (*popularity contest)
