Chris Goodwin
Several years ago I burned a lot of brain power trying to figure out how to work frequency and danger of Side Effects into some coherent whole. I was never satisfied with it. However, there may be a way to revisit it. Side Effects: * One use will more than likely kill you or knock you out. -2. (Side Effects: 6d6 Killing)* Two uses will kill you = one use is 50% likely to kill you = one use is likely to knock you out: -1 1/2 (Side Effects: 3d6 Killing or 10d6 Normal)* Three uses will kill you = one use is 33% likely to kill you = one use will inconvenience you greatly: -1 (Side Effects: 2d6 Killing or 6d6 Normal)* 4-5 uses will kill you = one use will probably inconvenience you greatly: -3/4* Any given use will likely inconvenience you somewhat: -1/2* Any given use might inconvenience you somewhat: -1/4 "More than likely" is a GM call. If you have Requires A Skill Roll with Side Effects, and your roll including penalties is 17-, you're at, at worst, the 4-5 uses level.
