wcw43921
This is one of my favorite Golden Age covers-- See? Sidekicks are useful--and not just as human shields!
Cassandra
There were two kinds of sidekicks in the Golden Age. Some were girlfriends of the heroes like Shiera Sanders (Hawkman), Doris Dalton (Rocketman), and Joan Williams (Flash) who became partners with the Hero, and in a few cases became heroines themselves (Hawkgirl, and Rocket Girl). Then there were the teenage versions of the heroes who were suppose to allow the reader to imagine themselves in the comic. This wasn't really necessary as most readers imagined themselves to be the actual hero. Plus there was the moral question of putting teenagers or even children in mortal danger. The only one who really had a good situation was Kit Weston, who was Kitten to Black Cat, who was a beautiful movie star named Linda Turner. Now that is a teenage fantasy. wcw43921
Comics were educational even in the Golden Age--just by reading them you could learn how to fight-- Someone let me know if any of these work, okay?
