Steve
In the pocket universe of the Sundered Stars, wormhole-like pathways exist allowing FTL travel between its different star systems. Humans refer to them as Tannhauser Points. Each is an amorphous zone of space almost a kilometer across, patrolled by the enigmatic Seraphim entities/vessels. Different star systems will have one or more such Tannhauser Points. The Points do not orbit a sun but are fixed in space, which can make getting to one a tricky proposition. Sol has four that are known, which is about average. The so-called Tannhauser Drive allows a vessel to instantly transit from one Tannhauser Point to a corresponding one in a different star system. Some pairings are very strong, and it is easy to calculate a jump between them. Others require more fine-tuning of the drive to reach the correct "frequency" of another point, which can be upwards of twenty or more light-years away. Because of the varying levels of vibrational similarity between points, it is often easier to jump to another star system and then jump a second time from there to the intended destination rather than making a straight jump. Tannhauser Points are located at varying distances from their associated star. The closest one to Earth is located between the orbits of Earth and Mars, and the furthest one is out within the Oort Cloud. It is possible to jump between Points within a system, which can cut months off of travel time.
Lucius
I was thinking, if they're called Tannhauser points, at least one should be near the planet Venus. What do you mean by "fixed in space?" At rest obviously, but at rest relative to what? Lucius Alexander The palindromedary thinks if you repair a spaceship while it's en route, it was fixed in space
Steve
They're fixed in space relative to the star they are near. They don't orbit it.
