I downloaded some characters here a long time ago and thought nothing of it. Some were just rtf files and some were hdc files. I looked at a few and noted that there were some from somebody's campaign called the Top Ten campaign, some were movie, TV, and comic book characters, and some were even based on song lyrics. There were a lot of them and I thought they would be good inspiration for original characters of my own. So, they sat there for years just taking up disk space as I ran other campaigns. Recently I began preparing a new Champions campaign and thought I would look through them. The first few looked okay, then I ran into one that was in a bad format that caused HDv6 to crash. It warned me to exit and restart HDv6. I did, but the program had a hard time freeing itself of the bad file's ID. When I opened another file and looked it over, all seemed okay until I tried to close it and then the program asked if I wanted to save it. I thought that was odd, because I had not made any changes, but then I noticed that it had changed the name of the file to the name of the previous file. I deleted the previous file's name from the save field and typed in the correct one and saved the file. I viewed a few more files without incident, and then it happened again. I followed the instructions and all went smoothly. A few more files, and on the character file for Killer Queen, it happened again and totally locked the program up. It wouldn't even quit. Had to restart my computer. Anybody else had problems like that?

Most likely: you're keeping all files that you've ever loaded open within HD and running out of memory as a result.  Close characters when you're done with them and unload prefabs that are not in use.

To remove all files from loading at startup, delete the appPrefs.xml file before starting HD.

I’m pretty sure you were checking out characters from the Surbrook’s stuff site.  I look around there on a pretty regular basis. Kind of like a guy spending his lunch hours wandering in a showroom for sports cars.  I’ve never had any problems.
