As per our previous conversation, I decided that, in many cases, it would be easier to edit the descriptions in HD instead of continually editing them in the RTF export. I realised I was resistant to this idea because my neurospiciness wasn't happy with having some lines blue and others black. I am still struggling but adjusting. These are for my GenCon games, so I want them to be as simple as possible. So I am editing a Weapon +2DC martial maneuver to just put the total dice (no math). I change the maneuver to say 12d6. I export the RTF sheet and in the Martial Arts section it still says "Weapon +2 DC." Pics attached. It doesn't appear that the RTF export for…

I doubt we'd ever see a new iteration, but if we did, I know my wish would for this thing to be a web app. Maybe electron or something. Might allow for more platforms that HD could be available for. I don't know. What do you all think. I'll admit, this is coming from the delirium of debugging with no idea which program is at fault for what. LOL!!! Anyways, what do you all think?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but is it possible for Hero Designer to automatically calculate the skill modifier for a power bought with RSR? If not, would it be a feature that could be requested down the line?

Ever since my Mac received a software update (Sonoma), Hero Designer no longer works correctly. I can open it via Java, but cannot use the mouse to go to each entry and at best, tab from Characteristics to Skills via keyboard but not back. I've deleted the previous version, and then downloaded and reinstalled the latest version (dated March 2024) and still no success. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Finalising my GenCon characters and proofreading them. I have exported them like 47 times at this point during the process. There are a few spots where I have been manually editing text EACH TIME. It would make my life easier if I could set the non-WG abbreviation, but I am unsure how to do so. I have "Use Abbreviation Where Possible" turned on and "Use WG Abbreviations" off. I have looked through my export templates, appPrefs, campaign rules, and I don't see anywhere to add a specific abbreviation. Does it go in the Export Format or the Campaign Rules? How would I format it? If you could point me to the correct space, I can tinker with it. Just not sure where…

When I select File/Open Character from the menu, nothing happens. The file selection dialog does not open. The same thing happens if I select File/Open Prefab. Selecting a recently opened file using File/Open Recent works fine. I cannot, however, save that character under a new name, as the Save As dialog does not open. All this functionality has worked before, with this install of HD6. My Java was updated to 1.8.0_411 on Apr 21. Could this be the issue?

I am looking for a way to add the focus limitation to a martial maneuver. Specifically i want to use martial grab but only with OIF extra limbs. How would I go about forcing the HD to allow that?

I am very confused. Bought the Pulp Adventures Character pack. I see three new Talents (animal friendship, hotshot pilot, inspire) in the unzipped file but I cannot figure out how to either add them to a character or better yet, permanently add them to the Talents list. I read through the manual, but how to use character packs was short and generic, and sadly, I kinda need a more detailed walkthrough of how to use these. Also, noticed there is a plugin folder when Designer is unzipped...what constitutes a plugin and goes there?

So far, downloaded four different sheets. Look great on screen, but some of us prefer a printed copy. Whatever I do the printed page comes out wonky....parts of two pages on one, headers of the next page on the previous. Can someone recommend one of the many available templates that actually is formatted for 8.x11" US Letter? Also, do the default directories actually work? I set the directory for characters to one I created, go to open the character and it defaults to downloads and I have to browse back to the actual folder. I created and set an export folder, Hero Designer cheerfully ignores this and dumps completed HTML files in the main directory. What …

following the procedure on page 30 of hero designer, there is no export template shown? Is this something I have to download from here like I did the character export sheets or is it something i am missing? Tring to pull 2 pc's and an NPC into combat manager, but am stuck on the export step. Please forgive the barrage of questions, my group just picked up the designer and combat manager for me today and I am still learning. So far, love the Hero Designer, other than printing not being part of it like earlier editions (Last one I used was Hero Creator).

There was a forum from 2017 on changing font (see below). Do you have an updated version of this "for Dummies" or a YouTube video that I can follow to duplicate? Also, do you have a webpage that shows the various export formats? Are there non-.hde formats that you can download and edit? Thanks! I am working on a character with a VPP. The character has multiple combinations of powers which I have listed individually and then use custom powers embedded in complex powers to "list" what powers are used for each configuration. However, this means the character has multiple uses for shrinking. For some reason, the software seems to be allergic to this. I try and edit an instance and I get a blank page. I basically have to shut down the application and cross my fingers hoping that reloading will allow me to do the edit on the next try. I cannot even do the edit on a new character because the moment I put it on the old character it is inaccessible. Any idea…

Hey all. The former user of this account is my dad. He lost a lot of his sight and it's hard for him to type or read on the computer. With his limited vision, he may be able to use Hero Designer still if there was some way to turn on a "dark mode" so the light doesn't hurt his eyes too much. Either that or if there was a way to increase the font size on the program or something. This would help him still make and play Champions characters. Does anyone here know any ways I could help him see hero designer again?

In Hero Designer, if you are creating a Martial Attack that does Flash Damage it will add the STR to the Flash Damage (1d6 per 5 STR). Problem is that Martial Attacks that do a Flash effect do not allow STR to increase the damage. How would you get Hero Designer to not increase the Flash Damage Based on STR?

Hello: I am very new to Hero Designer and Hero in general, so please pardon me if this is a stupid question. I am trying to make the Computer Programming skill behave like the Gambling skill (have categories and subcategories). I have created an extension template that modifies the Computer Programming skill. I have copy-pasted the Gambling skill XML from the Main6E template into it and edited the names to match the categories and subcategories I need. When I create a character using that template, Computer Programming skill charges 2 points for a category (good) and 2 points for a subcategory (bad). I cannot figure out what is going wrong. T…

Hello, I am have some problems trying to add powers to a superhero template for 5th Ed. Note: I am using the latest version of HD. My first problem is getting the template to load. When I create a new Superhero character and use the "Add Extension Template" the added power does not show in the list. However, if I create the new character using "Custom/Non-Standard Rules" and select the template it shows the added power. Is this normal behavior? Howdy Dan... is there a way to make certain Complications cost 0 points? In the game I'm gearing up to run, Template/Package Complications don't add to the matching amount needed, and I'm trying to put that into HD. HD on Mac OS won't retain settings / saved characters. I set the security settings to give it full disk access, etc. and it still can't save data (settings, character list, etc.). I have gotten it to work in the past, but it doesn't want to now, no idea why. Anyone seeing this issue?
