  1. Re: Multipower are so common, why not just cut every cost by 2 ?

5ER p.358: "...However, a character may not combine two or more slots from a single Power Framework as part of a multi-power attack, even if he has sufficient reserve or base points to use both slots at once."

I don't have 6ed (yet), but I would reread what's allowed in the new edition just to make sure. It is a BIG change (IMO) from 5ed. I think it would make VPP user and MP user VERY (too?) powerful.

  2. Re: Dispel Undead

automation such as skeletons and zombies aren't effected by presence attacks

In the 5ed Fantasy Hero the power to Turn Undead was based on the Presence Attack mechanic. The fact the Undead Automatons (skeletons and zombies) shouldn't be affected by it was hand-waved for the purpose of this power.

  3. Re: Castle Base and Followers

The way I see the "Wealth" perk working is more "buying power". You can have a big castle and still have normal wealth level (game-wise).

You can explain it by having the character be in a "I got all this stuff, but I am barely staying afloat and only can pry a few gp to spend a week!" type of situation.

  4. Re: How would you build this?

Xd6 luck (6, 8 or whatever would get the appropriate level you wish) Only to have people think he is responsible (-2)

Of course it isn't guaranteed to work, but a GM might allow a set effect if you put enough dice towards this power.

You might want to add Side Effect (may cause jealousy) or some such thing.

  5. Re: Simplifying 1-hand/2-hand/1.5-hand/Str Mins.

I'm setting up a FH game of my own and went through the weapons chart, as some discussion on these very boards had brought to my attention some things that I would want to change for my game. Some of these details was the "number of Hands" and the "Str Min" of weapons.

I almost entirely did away with "1½-H" & "2-H", boosted the Str Min for those same weapons and simply made it a "House Rule" that if you use a weapon with two hands it will be as if you have +5 Str. Some weapons still have "2-Handed", mostly polearm and other weapons that would be truly unweildly for human size characters, no matter how strong they are. But what this means is that some weapons which may a hilt or grip large enough (like longsword) can be used with two hands and boost the damage. Also, I fond it easier to adjusting the STR Min of weapons up or down. You just have one adjustment. ;)

  6. Re: Increasing Target Visibility

I would say that Images used to nullify Invisibility would allow you to see where the invisible guy is' date=' but not to see what he's doing, or even to see him well enough to counter the OCV and DCV penalties involved with fighting an invisible guy. If you want to counter those penalties, buy the power as a Suppress.[/quote']

To allow Suppress to have this same effect, you could just put a Limitation on it "Only to reveal where a Subject is (-½)". Or maybe that should be a Side Effect.

  7. Re: A bit of fun in an old Champions game.

Another true story: Some years ago to canadian political parties allied together, the Conservatives and the Reform party. They decided to call themselves the Conservative-Reform Alliance Party.

The party didn't last long. Seems like most politicians didn't want to belong to any party called C.R.A.P.

  8. Re: [storytime] Birth of RAVEN

I'm not familiar with that concept' date=' SirViss, although I did watch a few episodes of that series. Would you mind elaborating?[/quote']

I think I missed the episode where they were introduced, but the Quick-clones were clones that they could whip in a very short time (minutes to an hour) and they could put them out in fairly large batches. They only lasted for about an hour, and weren't quite as good as the "original", but they were good for misdirection and distractions.

I could see Teleios having come up with a process to make a quick-clone of himself. All he would need is the base materials (a body, live or dead) to do this. A quick injection and a turn to a minute later a clone dtand-in is found, and is around for about an hour.

Great for those quick get-aways to send the PCs on the wrong track. What happens to the clone after the process weras off is up to the individual GMs. :eg:

  9. Re: Visible Foci

    Just to note:

    ...

Detect Necromantic Magic 11- (Unusual Group), Increased Arc Of Perception (360 Degrees), Sense, Telescopic: +10 (15 Active Points); Independent (-2), OAF (Katana; -1) (Real Cost: 4)

    ...

As to the Side Effect, it can affect the environment around the character. The reason I suggested it is that you wanted it to be outside the control of the character, which can have negative effects for the character, and the group as well. Visible (Noisy) is basically the same thing, but that isn't "Uncontrolled", so you would have to add the extra limitation. My feeling is that the Sense adder makes it "Uncontrolled". Ever try to turn off your ears. (Yes, I now you can close your eyes, but I am ignoring that. :D)

Also, I would say it HAS to be an Unusual Sense (or part of Mystic Sense Group suggested in the Ultimate Mystic). I am sure the blade would glow whatever happened to the characters sight. And what if there is Necromantic Magic that allows someone to be Invisible. Would the blade not detect such magic?

Note: if you make it past of the Sight Group it is also a Targeting Sense. So, that invisible guy would be too easy to fight.

  10. Re: Visible Foci

    I have a few suggestions:

    1. The Detect should have "Ranged" else the "Telescopic" won't help much. ;)
    2. Visible might be a way of representing the Glowing effect, but to me it sounds more like a Side Effect (Glows when it detects something). That way, it is sorta "Uncontrolled".

Questions: Is the visual cue the only indication to the user that Necromantic Magic is about? (i.e. does the sword-weilder know that evil is about if he has his eyes closed?) If he needs to see it glow than you may want to have "Flashed as Sight Group" Limitation ontop of everything else. Also, you will have to think what happens when it is sheathed.

  11. Re: Making the Police Officer package deal more realistic

Most of these could be covered with PS:Police officer, if not directly then as a Complementary Roll on Perception. Of course, that is simply my opinion. YMMV. ;)

They are implied, but even after the Academy and Field Training; an Officer has to become more of an expert in the area of Use of Force.

Well, you can buy up the PS skill to show that you are becoming more proficient. There a certain point where granularity gets a bit ridiculous. I'm not saying that your proposals have crossed that point, though some might think so.

    Contacts are fun...

Yes they are. :D But the title to the thread is "Making the Police Officer package deal more realistic", so the question would be: "is it realistic?" ;)

  12. Re: CHAMPIONS UNIVERSE II - What Do You Want To See?

    ...

Stan Lee and John Romita didn't publish Fantastic Four in B+W. If they did, the world as we know it would be much different today.

    ...

As a counter-point: I collected the Fantastic Four in B&W for about 10 years (and Iron Man, and Spider-Man, and...). Where I used to live (in Quebec north of Montreal), you could only get comics (Marvel, at least) in french, and they were in Black and White. Eventually, they were colored, and two years after that the french ones were discontinued. This was all about two decades ago.

  13. Re: Another possible origin of Mechanon... (Warning: Long)

In that case' date=' perhaps the loss of that "insulation" could be what allowed the Qliphothic energies to overwhelm Mechanon's programming. Perhaps he's not just malfunctionning, but actually corrupted by the Shining Darkness.[/quote']

Well, the insulation would have been loss after the "feedback" incident happend, but may be it circumvented it, through circumstances that are so impossible to predict that no precaution against them were taken.

    ...

Perhaps Mechanon is the missing fifth member of DEMON's Inner Circle. :eg:

    You are an EVIL person.

But so am I! I like it!!! :eg:

  14. Re: Another possible origin of Mechanon... (Warning: Long)

Another thought. You could adjust the first appearance of Mechanon so its shortly after some major Qlippothic incursion occured' date=' such as the Demonflame Incident, or the awakening of the Slug ( though he'd really need to be majorly buffed to account for it ). This event's detection being what tripped the damaged probes conditions for going into "planetary cleansing" mode.[/quote']

    You mean like:

    ...

In 1979, the Slug awakened, and later that year he attempted to turn all the inhabitants of New York City into Elder Worms themselves. The foul energies unleashed reached the damaged sensors of the dormant robot and awakened it.

    ...

    :D

I followed what the timeline was in the official CU, so it took a few years for Mechanon to become fully active and powered up. Also, he may have taken this time to get to know the world better before he sallied-forth.

  15. Re: Another possible origin of Mechanon... (Warning: Long)

People always forget to rustproof. ;) It just seemed like a connection that could be fun to play up.

There's also potential here for a NPC or even PC hero origin, too, because if the drone on Earth survived, some on other planets might have done so as well, with their benevolent programming intact.

Too true. Definetly could lead to some interestin stories and plots.

Heck, just thinking about it right now, the "Golden Paint" idea is giving me ideas. Maybe that golden coating was created to give protection from the unholy qliphothic energies that were being bandied about way-back -when. That stuff could actually be instrumental in spoiling the Edomite's plans, or maybe it would be instrumental in stalling the Kings of Edom while he struck his bargain. :eg:

  16. Re: Another possible origin of Mechanon... (Warning: Long)

This is good stuff. I like the take on Mechanon. It also makes him a bit more, well, deep. Not that two-dimensional villains don't have their place, but I like how you give him more a purpose in the cosmos than just a menace.

As soon as you mentioned the Golden Hunters of Malva/Mechanon connection, I thought of DC's Manhunters.

I know I was going for a slightly similar origin for Mechanon in my current Cosmic campaign project.

    Thank you very much!

In my estimation, he is still a two-dimensional villain. After all, he's only goal in life is still only to destroy all life. It's just that now he would be a two-dimensional villain with some history. :D

LL is the one that mentionned the possible Golden Hunter connection. I don't know much of DC's Manhunters, except what I saw on the JLU cartoon. But only knowing that, it still a scary thought.

Just for curiosity's sake, what is the origin for Mechanon in your Cosmic campaign? (If you can tell us without your players finding out.)

  17. Re: Another possible origin of Mechanon... (Warning: Long)

    ...

OTOH, would be worthwhile to specify that the Malvan probe had to more or less rebuild its body from scratch, in order to explain why even a damaged form doesn't look more like Dr Destroyer. . .

 Could you explain this please. I don't know what you are trying to say, especially the ref to Dr D. Sorry. :(

  18. Re: Another possible origin of Mechanon... (Warning: Long)

You know' date=' we've never gotten a definition of what the "Golden Hunters of Malva" that fought against the Elder Worms (mentioned in [i']Terran Empire[/i]) actually were. It would be pretty cool if they were the originals of what became Mechanon.

I had a passing thought about that, but it came and went. :) I was looking up a bunch of stuff when I finally decided to write this up and I forgot the reference. But that would be a good idea. Of course, that would mean that he lost some color over the years. :D
