Good job! Players like that drive me crazy. If I were the GM' date=' I would've let the player know, "Sure, you can cut his throat while he's bound and helpless. But you don't get XPs for that. You only get XPs for overcoming challenges, and killing a prisoner isn't a challenge."[/quote']

However, convincing a Ogre to assist you is overcoming a challenge, and therefore worth XPs!

On the matter of "Mystery" ammo for the Rocket Launcher, yeah, we've been there.

In our case, we used one shot at relatively close quarters - it turned out to be an EMP, which fried most of the equipment on BOTH sides. That fight went Low-Tech fast. Later on, the other shot (thought to be AP) was used against one guy standing at the top of a hill (he hadn't actually done anything except just stand there, but there you go ...). That shot rurned out to be a Tactical Nuke - took out the guy (we think, never found a body) and the hill he was on.

Afterwards, a couple of the group complained about the waste of both shots. It was pointed out to them that things could have been much much worse - like if we had accidentally used the Tac-Nuke at close-quarters instead of the EMP.

I distinctly remember that the launcher didn't have enough range to get you beyond the blast radius of the nuke...

This was long ago, but Paranoia with me as GM...

They've just been issued thier medical bot, in a turned off state. They turn on the bot...

Bot: What is the nature of your medical problem?

PC: There is no medical problem.

    Bot: shuts itself down.

After running through the sequence three times...

Bot: What is the nature of your medical problem?

PC: I have a corn on my toe.

    Bot: activates medical chainsaw.

Multi barrelled grenade launcher is being used. The grenades are color coded, but the players have ideas what the colors do.

Malinkya: I don't want you charging in there lobbing random grenades!

Sailesh: It's not random! It's RED!

Sounds like a game of Paranoia I once ran...

Supply Officer: You will be issued one rocket launcher, with a selection of ammunition. Ammunition includes solid shot, paint marker, anti-personel, armor piercing, incendiary, and nuclear. As you can see, they are color coded for your convenience.

PC Troubleshooter: Friend Supply Officer, what is the color code?

Supply Officer: What is your security clearance, Troubleshooter?

    PC: Red, Friend!

SO: I'm sorry, that information is unavailable at that security clearance!

    From Saturday's session.

New heroes, players new to the system...

GG OOC: How was I to know that a ranged killing attack could kill someone?

After hearing that D.E.M.O.N. and Viper are sponsoring drug gangs in San Diego...

GM reads list of San Diego Gangs: El Serpiente Verde. Helldogs. El Serpiente Real. Devil Cats.

War Dragon: I'm sensing a pattern.

The brick meets the martial artist...

War Dragon: I'm War Dragon. What did you say your name was?

    Dragon Slayer: Errr...

(Part of the backround I've handed out was the Superteam in Los Angeles, The Dragons. War Dragon, after the first mission, told the Press that they were "The Dragons of Justice". The press is going to link them with the Los Angeles Police Dragons, official superteam of L.A.P.D. Ouchie.)

Oh, and for the record: GG, after shooting the (no resistant defenses) thug for 15 body spent his next action using his 8 or less Paramedic skill to stop the bleeding... and rolled a 3, suceeding brilliantly and impressing everyone, especially the Martial Artist medical doctor with healing powers.

Distinctive Features (Not Concealable) is hard to reconcile in my mind with Secret ID

From a much earlier game group: Titan, the team brick had "Unusual Looks: 8' tall" from his two levels of growth (always on) AND "Secret ID". I asked him "What, do you hunch down a lot? How many 8' tall men who look like they could start for the Raiders are there?"

  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Better than a street gang named after dragons...

The Los Angeles Police Dragons were from a earlier campaign of "Teen Champions", where they started out as basically a street gang, fighting gangs sponsered by Viper and D.E.M.O.N.... they would evolve into a real superteam, and join the LAPD to avoid being drafted by the registration act.

Indeed, keeping a secret ID in comics is often extremely easy. The TV show "Lois and Clark" hung a lampshade from it, with a time traveling villian mocking Lois Lane...

Villian: World's greatest reporter? Hah! Dons glasses "I'm Clark Kent" removes glasses "I'm Superman!" puts glasses on "I'm Clark Kent" takes glasses off "I'm Superman!" tosses glasses to Lois You worked next to him for years and didn't realize it until he told you!

  9. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if...

I don't know about you' date=' but most GMs in my experience auto-default to the +20 level for mental attacks because they don't want to deal with it in the middle of a combat. So even against EGO only, most heroes/villians will have 13-15 so you need 33 or more to get anything done.[/quote']

    10d6 will average 35 points.

And as others have said, brute force mentalism doesn't work well. Go for the subtle: "Attack the brick", Illusion of UNTIL heavy weapons squad targeting them, and always remember that mental powers come with invisibility to normal sight for free.

  10. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if...

"I'm sorry' date=' but little Frederick will have to repeat senior year. He doesn't have enough points yet."[/quote']

"But we do have enough points! Show him the certifacate from Viper proving you're hunted by them, and then demonstrate the RKA 6 shot autofire explosion OAF: Bazooka you bought with it..."

  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

DnD campaign: my character is a Rogue, child of the town locksmith, and pretending to be a Bard. The name is Harrah Lochdotter (Harrah Lock's Daughter, using Scandanavian style naming). For some reason, everyone thought I was playing a *boy*. My character had left town several years earlier to avoid a arranged marraige and had just returned. Everyone knew the backstory, and so...

Dran: (OOC) I go to the town Locksmith and ask about his son

GM as Locksmith: "I have no son."

Dran: "I know that you are estranged, but he is still your son."

GM: "But I have no son."

Dran: "Even though he disobeyed you, he is still your son."

GM: "What are you talking about. I have no son, I have never had a son."

Dran: "But Harrah, he is your son, you cannot deny..."

GM: "Did Harrah become a boy while she was away?"

    Dran:

    Group:

    Me and GM:

  12. Re: Challange rating and balanced encounters

Unlike DnD, Champions is mostly non-lethal. Killing a PC is usually hard to do unless you build the villians to be pure killing machines.

If you underestimate them and have a cakewalk, let them... you'll know better next time. If you overestimate them, let them be defeated or fail... while giving them a chance to succeed next time.

  13. Re: KA.'s Idea Thread

    2) Life Plus Twenty.

I have heard of a lot of desperate criminals sentenced to "Life Plus Twenty" or "Life Plus Fifty" or even "Life Plus One Hundred".

Now technically this sounds like the criminal still owes a debt to society, even after they die in prison.

In a certain prison in Louisiana, the Warden takes this commitment seriously.

With the application of a bit of voodoo, some inmates go on serving time long after death.

They could be used for various tasks:

    Riot Control

    Hunting Down Escapees

    Guard Training

    Etc.

    :eg:

    KA.

I'd heard it termed as "Life and a day", where you cannot be granted parole until you serve that day, and you can't start that day until you've died.

But the stuff you have is good... I might use it.

  14. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Well, I'm putting together a new group, haven't had the first game session yet, but every week at the DnD game we talk about it. I've got 6 players, 5 have never played before...

    The Characters are

Harry Dresden, mystic and based off the books. The only experienced player.

Gentleman Ghost, based off the DC cartoon version.

Trickshot, weaponmaster and Green Arrow knockoff.

    Dragon Slayer, martial arts mystic.

    War Dragon, brick.

    As yet unnamed telekinetic.

Officially, the characters haven't met yet, but I've been giving them backround and telling them what they've heard about each other in the news. They've also been sharing (by email) costume designs (hooray for Heromachine!). So, unnamed telekinetic sent his picture (Royal Purple, Bannana Yellow, and Olive Drab trim)and generated the following responses...

    Trickshot: *This* is your costume?

    Unnamed: I'm making a statement.

    War Dragon: What statement?

Harry Dresden: "I'm color blind, won't someone please help?"
