Groundhog Day After Tomorrow - watch as Bill Murray lives through the apocalypse again & again & again...& still can't figure out what the **** its all about!

Then he'll be positively screwed come November -- when 2012 is (supposed

    to be) in the theaters.

Yes, that crazy German is once more threatening civilization as we know it.

  2. Re: Condiment King

Uh...I would give him running. And lots of it. Because for every person who loves a condiment' date=' there's someone who wishes to eradicate it from the earth.[/quote']

That'd only work as long as he didn't run afoul of someone with more than enough

inches of Running to ketchup to him.

  3. Re: TV to rpg

Let's see...there's a Battlestar Galactica (new series) RPG currently available,

along with a "Quickstart Guide" that offers the PCs the option of either being (A)

a group that manages to hook up with Galactica and the Exodus Fleet, (B) becoming

part of the Resistance on Caprica, or © joining up with another fleet escaping

the destruction of the Colonies (finally, a game that actually offers the BSG fan-

base that contributes 'second fleet' stories to archives such as FanFiction.net

the chance to use their fleet/setting as the basis for a campaign).

As far as other TV series that could be adapted for use as an RPG setting, there's

the old but short-lived series Fantastic Journey (I think I'm remembering the title

correctly). The premise of that particlar show was that there was this huge

island hidden within the Bermuda Triangle that was split up into different time

zones, separated by dimensional(?) barriers. This had the effect of allowing

a PC-type group membership in the main cast which wouldn't have been poss-

ible in the outside world: an empath from the 23rd Century with a psychic

"tuning fork", a young woman from an advanced human society, a "Dr. Smith"

type character (not really evil, just morally challenged; played by Roddy

McDowell), and, of course, a few people from our own time (one of whom was

a young boy played by Ike Eisenmann -- Scotty's ill-fated nephew in Star Trek II:

The Wrath of Khan) who shared a common goal: to find a way off of the island

and out of the Triangle, hopefully finding a way back to their own times in the

    process.

Another TV setting that would make for an interesting RPG campaign world is the

future world envisioned by Gene Roddenberry in his TV-movies Genesis II and

Planet Earth, both of which featured the character of Dylan Hunt (not the

Kevin Sorbo version; the original who was portrayed first by Alex Cord and

    later by John Saxon).

Speaking of cartoons that might be adapted for RPG use, I happened to make

a bit of a discovery yesterday while YouTubing. I came across some clips from

the Flash Gordon animated series from the late 70s/early 80s, and in listening

to the dialogue, realized that the same guy who provided the voice for Flash

Gordon is the same one who did the voice for Thundarr the Barbarian (I can't

    remember his name, though).

One cartoon that hasn't been mentioned as a possible candidate for an RPG

adaptation is that interesting mix of Starships and Six-guns from the 80s,

    Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers.

  4. Re: Video Hits

Heh. I can just see something going on with this tape along the same lines as on a

particular episode of Crusade: the one where one of Excalibur's crew got what

she thought was an empty data crystal from the ship's xenolinguist, only to find

out that it was one of his multi-species porno flicks -- which had everyone

who watched it performing the Goren Maneuver.

  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Pictures of the characters from the Embria campaign:

    Chyra-sorceress.jpg

Chyra, the Undead-aspected Sorceress, (bodycast as Skye Sweetnam)

    MetriontheBlack.jpg

Metrion the Black, Wizard (bodycast as a young Ian McKellan)

Lee Reighborn, Cleric of Pelor (bodycast as Christian Bale)(art by ProdigyDuck)

Rhiannon, Half Elven Fighter-Rogue (bodycast as Hayden Panetierre)

Tash, Half-Orc Ranger (bodycast as Rosario Dawson)

    Varga-Barbarienne.jpg

Varga, Barbarienne (bodycast as Phoenix from American Gladiators)

I hope this helps people picture the characters when you read their silly quotes :)

The scary thing is, I can quite easily picture Rosario Dawson as a half-orc female --

especially after all the years she spent with a lobster on her head in Star Trek:

    Voyager.

  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Among that villian's bag of tricks was being able to arrange furniture such that the Feng Shui of a room would kill the next person who entered which then prompted a handful of comments after his defeat by table...

"You overcame him with the power of artfully placed furniture"

"See I can teach you a thing or two about Feng Shui!"

Which will doubtless lead to the inclusion of the following subject in the curriculum

    of the local super-school:

    Interior Decorating from Hell 101.

  7. I found an article about warp drive on the Discovery website today, in which

it was suggested that a Star Trek-type warp drive could pose a possible

danger by creating a black hole-type phenomenon.

Looks like the heirs to the Trek legacy are going to have to go back to the

    drawing board.

  8. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares

I remember that episode. The ending was a typically creepy TZ ending, in that

when the unit the tank crew belonged to went looking for them, by chance

one of the soldiers in the search party happened to look at the memorial with

the names of the 7th Cav troopers killed at Little Big Horn -- and saw the names

of the missing tankers listed on it.

  9. Re: Star Frontiers Conversion

Do you plan on including rafflur weapons in your weapons list?

(These are the proton weapons that were introduced in the Zebulon's Guide supplement

to the Star Frontiers game. According to the description in the book, rafflurs could

only use minipowerclips, as trying to use standard full-size powerclips would cause

the weapon(s) to explode. In addition, they could only fire a cone/fan-shaped blast --

basically, these things were particle-beam scatterguns.)

  10. Re: Shadow Angelus

It's been a while since I've been able to post anything on the boards, so I'm sort of behind

on questions that I've wanted to ask.

Anyway, here's the latest question regarding the SA setting: is there a character

archetype that's roughly analgous to the Spartan super-soldier (from the HALO

    setting) in the game world?

  11. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares

I love it when it turns out something's already been done

Like, Archie Meets the Punisher or My Little Cthulhu

Reputation to the first person who knows where I got THAT one from.

    Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary thinks that's just too easy.

Is this by any chance a reference to the old Ken Berry/Forrest Tucker/Larry Storch

    comedy F-Troop?

  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Heh. I honestly can't recall what game this quote originated in, but it's become the tag line for at least one pulp hero in any of our games:

"Women seem to have a problem with my face. They either want to punch it or kiss it. Sometimes both."

Sounds more like something Captain Jack Sparrow would say...he certainly got more

than his fair share of both in those flicks (:D).
