1. In Australia, "Mobile Phone" or "Mobile" is pretty common nomenclature. +Some amount to knowledge skills +Less to other skills +Absolute Time Sense +Absolute Range Sense (up to a range) +Bump of Direction +Eiditic Memory (photos +Telepathy, limited, other people with a phone idk
2. Honestly, I had completely forgotten that Americans use the term "cell phone", so I didn't search for that.
3. Has anyone put any thought to this? In previous investigations, finding out the capital of Angoa (say) would require a trip to the local library, but now it's just a few screen swipes away. Or one can look up how to take apart a particular brand of lock etc. Obviously, a lot of information would be either secret or nonexistent (MILINT, or dark web stuff), but that could be reflected with a roll. A lot of basic Area Knowledge stuff just becomes a basic googling, as well as cursory knowledge of most topics. This all only applies if you have data service and battery life, of course. Anyway, would like to not have to write that from scratch (though if you had a Watchdogs style character, they'd presumably be able to use their smartphone for a lot more).
4. Mostly because I suck at mental arithmetic, I wrote a little attack roller to quickly roll people's attacks. Mostly useful for mooks and stuff, but players can use it to speed up combat (assuming you trust them). I've hidden the actual dice rolls (you may download and edit the page if you want to see them). Here is the URL: http://stuartp.ucc.asn.au/hero2.htm I would link it, but I keep getting a server error every time I click attach. Anyway, link, download, share, modify as you see fit. I don't really care. EDIT: Fixed a bug and a little bit of formatting.
5. If you use mind control on the same target in two consecutive phases, does the new roll add or apply in any way to the old roll? Does the new one just replace the old one? Is there some way of mitigating a bad initial roll?
6. Re: Running older scenarios I've been sort of lazy and am instead doing a period RPG set in the 80s, rather than trying to modernise the setting. The idea is to have a set of relatively introductory sessions so that I can get used to GMing and the new players can get used to the system, before moving on to a campaign proper (if people want to). As far as I can tell, the Destroyer 2 build in this is intended to be a weaker version of current Doctor Destroyer, but I should update him to modern rules. Maybe the characters will just end up looting things. :/ Ah well. I'm working with them to come up with why their characters are together and doing good.
7. I want to run some older scenarios and was wondering what stuff I'd have to think about before just throwing the players in there. Obviously, points costs and general balance has changed since 4th Ed, but what are some other considerations?
8. Re: May I Draw Your Champion? Paradox Timely for Tuesday. I went with a sort of Star Trek/Jetsons retro thing with whatever details were entertaining to me. I hope that hair is big enough. What does TED stand for? Anyway, this is probably the most feminine one I've done so far. I changed some of the names of the powers, but I don't think it really matters (same special effects, the name just suited better I though, e.g. nural blaster sustain to Neural Blast, Charged).
9. Re: Fort Knox Has Been Robbed Given that Agent is a deserter and being hunted by the Government, it seems unlikely they would ask him. However, if they apparently are desperate enough to contact him and he thinks there's enough of a guarantee that he can get away after he's delivered the gold... Well, he might steal it for himself. But he is of the opinion that information is more valuable per unit mass than gold. He'd first attempt to determine how the gold made its way off the premises. If it was via teleportation (gates or several trips), then it would have to be someone who knew the grounds, so those people would have to be checked out, identities followed up etc. If they physically carried the gold off ground, surveillance should be checked. Any erased records would result in more leads. The military would have to be involved, and he would ensure that everyone present at the time of the robbery is detained. Any missing persons would have to be followed up. While that stuff is going on, he'd contact various members of underground communities, arms dealers, etc. for any sudden influx of gold. Such a large amount would have to be transported somehow, although that is an incredibly wide net to cast. More obtuse routes of investigation would be explored if the above produce no leads. Once a location had been obtained, he'd likely infiltrate the location and find the gold. Any routes of absconding with the gold would have to be neutralised, and then the cavalry could be called in.
10. Re: May I Draw Your Champion? This isn't like... I do every one. It has to be interesting for me to draw, or else, well... I'm not going to draw it. Here: Minor villain I drew on a camping trip last weekend. The straight jacket is an interesting part of his costume, and he has at least one device that allows him to operate. The ideas behind him are based off my own emotions when I'm having a massive depressive episode and pictures of mental patients drawing where they feel their emotions the most, so concentrating on doing stuff with the hands and head (where anger is felt the most). Anyway, being out of town did mean I couldn't check the forum until I got back yesterday.
11. Re: May I Draw Your Champion? Red Tiger, from Hyper-Man Ok, I'm still dialing in perspective, but from the character sheet I ended up getting a sort of asian Bane (DKR, not & Robin), so I just went with that. His head is a little small, and his mask is kind of off-putting (especially since it never movies, no matter his emotional state). Loose kung-fu pants, and has both his signature weapons. Now to start on number 2 for the night. EDIT: Hmm, photo quality came out relatively poor. Will try again. EDIT 2: Ok, re-uploaded. I guess this is one of the ideas I had that didn't really pan out that great. His head is a little bit too small, and the perspective is kinda wonky. The chinese face mask is supposed to be this sort of disturbing baby face thing that puts people off generally.
12. Re: May I Draw Your Champion? I kinda wanted to update once per day, but real life gets in the way. >.< I did a drawing yesterday and scrapped it (shame), but am currently drawing two more. Thanks for the ideas guys. Will upload once I finish. EDIT: Finished one I started a few days ago. NORMALS, or Non-super Operative, Range: Medium/Aggressive to Light/Sedate, are mercenary regulars tasked with eliminating or capturing medium power level villains or heroes, depending on who hires them. They contract with the US military. Aesthetically, I wanted a 20 minutes into the future "riot" force, with jump packs. Think those guys with sick sticks in Minority Report.
13. Re: May I Draw Your Champion? I'm only using my fat grey 6B pencil, but I'm fine with the rest of the stuff. Are we going with military affectations? Palooka? EDIT: Also, some backstory/abilities would be cool. Does he just use his fists? Guns? etc. This will take place on a day by day basis. Living in Australia means I'm not online when most other people are (and it's nearly 2 AM now, gotta catch some zeds shortly).
14. I thought I'd work on improving my pencil art skills, so I've decided to draw one picture each day until semester starts (about four weeks or so). Mostly characters and things, to help solidify character ideas in RPGs. Since I'm not the most creative person ever, I would like some ideas, and am totally willing to link back, credit, or whatever you want. Also, this is Perth, and there are few people spread out. I kinda feel like playing in a Hero System game, but not up to running one. And I can't find a game. So this. Just so you get an idea of where I'm at, here's a couple of ones I did before: The first character is Agent, an unknown British MI6 member who stole a number of experimental technologies allowing him to turn invisible or impersonate any human sized humanoid. He's similar to Black Widow, but less combat oriented and more about infiltration. He can also survive in a vacuum and operate in a significant number of environments. He's a very scout character, but can still hold his own against most normal powered opponents. His design aesthetic was a sort of tech/horror one set 20 minutes into the future. He'd probably be the character I'd play in a standard campaign. The second character is Right Hook, an engineering student doing her internship at a company that produces servo suits for the military. She has taken some martial arts since starting her vigilante activities, so she can protect herself from some goons, although being a late teens/early twenties female means she'd mostly be about getting away. She has an outlandish inertial dampener which protects her from stronger attacks but not weaker ones. Her aesthetic was one of a grease monkey, and also an attempt to avoid oversexualising superheroines. She still hits all my numbers. I'm weird. Anyway, I'm ok. Not great, but getting somewhere. Obviously, I don't like spandex as much, and I'm not very confident with faces, so there is some risk if your character is unmasked (although I will happily do that, just a warning). Pose suggestions and stuff are welcome too. As much description as you feel is necessary (as well as character abilities), and I can make up the rest (once I have a starting point, I find it easier to imagine other things out). Hopefully when I wake up in the morning, I will have some suggestions! EDIT: Obviously, whether I draw something or not comes down to if I find an idea interesting, if I think I can do it justice, and it's not, uh, 'freaky'.
15. Re: ARMED Acronym Remember, acronyms don't have to just have the first letter of each word: ARMoured Extrahuman Division, or something.
16. Re: Mind Control Bug Ok So, say, Sleeper Capsule Injector: is an OAF (like a needle gun thingy you use to implant the capsule) Mental Transform: Probably Major Transform Blah d6 AVAD Works against EGO, not BODY Adds Psychological Complication: Sleeper Agent 25 point complication Obey commands, forgets actions taken while under control Total Intensity End All or Nothing Limited Target (humans, things with biological brains that understand the language of ) Character must have surgery or remove the capsule in some way (for instance, if they can shapeshift out of it). Obviously, they wouldn't be inclined to, and wouldn't have any memory of it being implanted, so they'd have to find out later. Extra Time, takes around a minute to thirty seconds End End
17. Re: Mind Control Bug The bug is intended to be implanted while the target is unconcious, and the subject shouldn't have any memory of it. It's intended to be something the players can find (by a telltale scar on the back of their enemies necks, and the plot thickens). It also provides an easy explanation why the villains find so many willing mooks (given that the setting is a very cliche super hero universe, and it's often not really touched on why there are so many mooks). Once you know the bug is there, I guess you could get a knife and cut into the back of your own neck and remove it, although you risk paralysis and possibly death if you do. It should probably take effect once the target is concious again.
18. Re: Mind Control Bug Well, the bug gets put in someone. I got as far as IIF, but how do I make it almost permanent (unless removed), and require it to be put in someone? Would that be requires skill roll, takes time (say ten minutes to half an hour, assuming you have all the tools)?
19. Hey I want to build a mind control bug that a character inserts into an opponent (or civilian). Once the bug is inserted, the character with the bug inside their head will obey the inserter's orders (or as though mind control was used on them). The other thing you'd be able to do with it is give a future command to be obeyed, and respond to some signal. Basically, making sleeper agents. I really don't know where to start. :/
20. Re: Forwarding summon commands I'm not trying to do this to break the game or anything, just trying to make an RTS faction out of one character and some followers and things. :/
21. Re: Forwarding summon commands haha, that captcha for now is "Slumlord active". What it is is basically a dude brings in a mobile teleporter, and then teleports in infantry for running about and doing stuff the original dude had in mind.
22. How would you rule summoning summons? Let's assume you did allow a summoned creature to summon another creature: Assume, for these purposes, that both the summoned creature and the summoned creatures's underling (henceforce the underling) are slavishly devoted to their summoner. If the original summoner gives an order to the underling, should the underling obey, or does the summoner forward commands through the first summoned creature? It would be more convenient (but also better, gameplay-wise) if the summoner can command the underling directly. Can the summoner delegate command-giving to someone else? Like "I shall summon some zombies, and they will obey your every command."?
23. Re: Command Radios This character is quite complex, although it's been interesting to write, definitely. What is HRRH? I dropped it to 500 max connections at any one time (should be completely fine), with the ability to switch to 60 new connections every phase (dropping old ones, obviously). Which should be enough. It's not quite a command radio, but more of a global command network where my character can put troops where they are needed and give them orders. Hopefully, the rest of the party should write more sane characters.
24. I'm trying to build a commander and a bunch of troops. The commander is supposed to communicate with the troops, and visa versa (The commander is a super-computer AI that can handle however many messages the troops throw at it). How would that be done? I checked both mind-link and clairsentience, but neither seem quite appropriate. What would be the best way of doing this with a large number of troops (they come in squads of six). edit: I made this: Rush Encrypted Radio Command: Mind Link No LoS needed +10 pts Link with anyone with Rush Encryped Comms Piece +10 pts Link with up to 2000 simultaneous troops +55 pts Flashed Radio and Hearing (not mental!) (-1/2) OAF (big tower thing that you can unplug) (-1) 30 pts Is this right? What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing it this way?
