Holy Moly!
Why so many duplicates of the BBB (Champions 4e) and the 6e core books??
HM
A copy purchased when the BBB first came out, a few inherited from friends who left gaming/Champions, and two picked up inexpensive (under $10 each) at used book stores (the "deluxe" edition and the softcover version).

I have tried and failed to locate in my 6th edition books any definition for the "Spell" Limitation. It appears as a Limitation on many spells in the HSG, but I can't locate info about it in the books -- 6E1 or 6E2, FH, or the Grimoire.
Can I get an indication where to locate a definition for this Limitation?
Thanks!

Re: Champions Villains Volume Three: Solo Villains when will it be on the shelf?
Perhaps villain books in Champions are what monster books are for D&D.
With monster books, only a segment of the game-purchasing D&D audience buys them -- primarily DMs and collectors. Most players have no need or reason to buy monster books.
Likewise, villain books are primarily of use to Champions GM -- a segment of those who play HERO. Most players never see a need to buy them.
With a genre book like Star Hero, there is something of interest in such a book for GMs and players alike, and anyone who enjoys any form of S-F. Just a theory; I have no special info to back any of this up.

Re: Champions Villian Voulms Beyond 3: Is There Room For More?
I was just thinking the other day that it would be quite handy to have a book of superheroes (as opposed to villains) or superhero teams. I doubt there's sufficient interest in such books to make them worthwhile. As for more supervillains, to me they are like monsters for a fantasy RPG -- I can always use more. Maybe a book of several different villain themes: horror-themed, high-tech themed, secret organization themed, etc.

So the best solution is to get everyone you know to buy copies of CV 1 and CV 2. Have more people vote with their pocketbooks!

Re: Just saw 6th Edition and got a chance to leaf through it...
... But I don't think you could sell something that big/long/expensive to more than a very small subset of the customer base. 6th Edition has been moderately commercially successful' date=' from what I understand. But it's almost 800 pages long, and has grown considerably compared to previous editions. It is entirely rational to wonder if future editions will similarly grow in length and depth, and if there is an upper limit that may be reached/breached by a successor version of the system(at which point it may well be easier to start over from basic principles than to try to trim down such a monster block of text).[/quote']When I first proposed my gaming group switch from 4e D&D to HERO, they paled at the size of the two core rulebooks. If not for my past knowledge of the game, and my determination to guide them through the learning process, I highly doubt they would have gone along with the change.
As much as I love HERO, and enjoy 6E, I can't argue with the fact that the core rulebooks are imposing simply by their sheer physicality. Also, the $80 buy-in means that no one else in my group will likely purchase the books, no matter what. For my part, I collect RPG books, and I don't mind spending the money to acquire HERO products, but I am in the minority in the group.
From a cost standpoint, I have no problem with the price of the core books -- they are sturdy books printed on the highest quality paper I've ever seen, but nonetheless $80 is still a chunk of change. Reasonably priced or not, that price point represents an obstacle to getting other people to try out HERO. The abridged basic book does a good job of providing a very reasonable entry point, but for some reason that word "basic" seems to bother some gamers for some reason.
If the next edition of HERO proves longer and more expensive, I can only guess how big it would be and how much it would have to cost -- and I imagine it would prove even more imposing to new players than 6E can be.

Re: Questions about the Champions 6E core rules book
Ssssssshhhhhh! Don't let Hasbro see that idea... They might publish D&D the Gathering.Ha! What makes you think they haven't already?
I had a lot of fun playing 4e, but it eventually wore out its welcome. Now I'm 100% converted to HERO and there's no going back...

Re: Champions Beyond
GC and CBY are definitely compatible' date=' but as megaplayboy says, there's very little overlap between them because they focus on very different time periods. Though with CBY now in hand I could easily expand GC and bring it a bit more in line with what's in CBY, for the sake of consistency, if the opportunity ever arises. I considered reprinting a bunch of GC stuff in CBY, but CBY was already large enough on its own. [/quote']Much appreciation for the clarifications. Now I need to add Galactic Champions to my collection!

Re: Champions Beyond
Is there much overlap between Champions Beyond and the 5e sourcebook, Galactic Champions, or are these completely different books?

Re: Champions Villains, Volume 3: Solo Villains
Printed copies of STAR HERO are available at GenCon. Did DOJ work with a different printer to make this happen?

Re: Champions Villains, Volume 3: Solo Villains
The sheer length of the delay is amazing to me.I remember back in early December 2010 when the PDF for vol. 3 was released. I was in the earliest planning stages for a Champions campaign. I figured the hard copy would be out in plenty of time for my start date.
Eight months later, I'm on the verge of launching my campaign... I never ever would have guessed the hard copy version of this book would still be unavailable...

Re: Champions Villains, Volume 3: Solo Villains
I too look forward to having this third volume in paper copy. Back in Feb. when the printing backlog started, I never would have guessed we'd still be waiting for this book in late July, with no release date in sight.
I can't imagine how frustrating this has been for the folks at HERO...

Re: The HERO System 6th Edition
Is there any estimate on when Volume 2 Combat and Adventuring will be available again. My local game store can't get it in stock and my online order is stuck in pending.I would be interested in knowing about the availability of the 6th edition rulebooks from the Online Store myself. I am planning on ordering a spare set of copies of both volumes, but the "item detail" for the bundle indicates "[Note: Books still in transit from printer. Will ship upon arrival]"
Is there any indication of how long a wait this might entail? If there is likely a long wait involved (i.e., more than a month), then I will probably hold off placing an order for these books.

I like to have extras for people to use/borrow, plus I bought a couple replacements when my original copies started to fall apart (the 6E books and the 4E books had that in common--a problem with the binding coming unglued). Personally, I'd love it if my players would have bought copies for their own use, but as it was I had to practically drag some of them kicking and screaming into the light of HERO... They're smart people, good gamers, but they have a tough time grokking the way the game works.
