  1. Re: Fantasy Race Bloat?

In a perfect world, I would appreciate a handful of races but not too many. Half a dozen, maybe eight, not much more than that. And I'd want them to be integrated into society, not the standard "dwarven city", "elven city" idea. I would want them to be part of the cultures in the area they inhabit, and having that culture be informed by the interrelation of the two (or hopefully more) kinds of people.

I mean, there's a whole lot of fertile ground to be covered in one area where the long-lived elves are the ruling caste, having amassed significant power - and another where elves are specifically not allowed any civic authority as they have too long of a view, and tend to make decisions that ignore the short-term needs of the shorter-lived folk. Throw in a place where xenophobic elves kill every other sentient they encounter and another where elves live in hiding after a major uprising against them, and... well, the list goes on.

  2. Re: Fantasy Hero Companion: Heavy Fighters

Late to the party, I know, but my take is a little different as I was considering something like this myself, in the vein of Dungeon Fantasy from the GURPS line of products.

I own that I was surprised to see so many powers assocaited with a heavy fighter. To my mind, that character has skills aplenty, maybe some combat talents as appropriate to the genre, and solidly high physical stats.

I think I'd have approached the increased penetration, increased damage, and increased accuracy by way of CV modifiers and martial arts, going so far as to build a generic heavy fighter tradition to pull from when designing the suite of maneuvers available to the fighter, rather than trying to mimic the desired effect using powers. Likely more cost effective in the long run.

  3. Re: DC / Marvel Characters in Champions Universe

He would make Homage characters' date=' then try to completely deny they were homage characters, like they were his original creations.[/quote']

Gah! The absolute worst thing to do.

If you like a character, make an homage, declare it proudly, and then show everyone how you managed to twist the minutia of the rules to make him or her as close to canon perfect as possible.

  4. Re: Weapon that does knockback with no damage?

If it really is a "Kinetic Pulse" you may want to reconsider whether or not it does do damage. If you hit someone with a kinetic pulse hard enough to throw them across the parking lot, it's probably hitting hard enough to do some STUN damage at the very least.

If you're "imparting kinetic energy" then the TK solution sounds like it might be better in terms of effect, but harder to deal with with the whole grab before toss rules.

  5. Re: Weapon that does knockback with no damage?

If you base it off of an attack, and the defender has damage negation, does it also negate the knockback potential? If so, TK sounds like a very good solution.

That said, TK, without an appropriate limitation, will make Knockback Resistance useless against this attack - that is, if 6E has KB Resistance anymore. I'm new to that version, and barely had 5E under my belt.

  6. Re: Why would I want an Accurate AoE?

These are all wonderful - especially as I was looking to stat up some 4E D&D powers just to flex my memory of how things work in Hero and how they've changed in 6E - but how would you stat up a power that really works like the magic missile of yore? That is, it simply always hits, and always causes a tiny bit of damage.

I know Hero is not a good game for absolutes, but I'm hoping there'll be a solution better than AoE Accurate + Levels...
