  1. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Lol, i stand corrected
  2. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? He'll stand by ya while chewing on a lobster tail
  3. Re: Ballad of Ardor Looks like the Characteristics version is the better method, its a good ballad buff but i cant see paying over 100 points for it. Lol, still trying to figure it out
  4. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? With most games, you get out of it what you put into it. People will always have preferences but i have never sat down to a D&D game and wished it was another. D&D will remain a go to game as will a couple others. HERO allows me to get creative in a different way.
  5. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Lol, i dont know why but that comment took me to the scene in the Huey in Full Metal Jacket.
  6. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Lol, they were there for you man, remember that
  7. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? In all seriousness Wolf, having a moment of clarity like the one you mentioned is great. Being self-aware regarding what interests you have in the big picture view of gaming really does help, not only as a player but as a GM.
  8. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? And a legend is born
  9. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Hey Roy, i have found that the best check on spell power in D&D is its save. If a spell allows no save, it's one to be looked at, otherwise it's really not an issue. I wrote up a "few" necromancy spells for our Pathfinder game and several do not allow saves. Thus they get relegated to higher level spell slots. Knowing the spells in a game is good so you can look at a players spell selection and know at a glance whether it's a yay, nay, or lets talk
  10. Re: Ballad of Ardor I am liking the second option Sean presented and putting a time limit on it for balance. At 52 points, it's looking good.
  11. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Just to throw my 2 cents in, visualizing heroic/superheroic in D&D would be better interpreted as non-planar adventures as heroic and planar as Superheroic. I could view "Superheroic" in D&D at around 12th level and in keeping with the HERO concept, 12th level= Low-powered Super. Clerics can get Plane Shift as a 5th lvl spell i believe which in 3.x means they need to be 9th lvl. 9th lvl in D&D is generally looked upon as a transitive lvl, meaning that it's the divider between low lvl play and moving into high level play.
  12. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Yes sir Though most of us didn't actually get into all the character variable builds that you could do with the point system. At that time, it looked like their version of HERO which wasn't bad, just not our cup of milk at that time. We did use the Combat and Tactics and eventually the High Level Campaigns book.
  13. Re: Ballad of Ardor Lol, yea, it's a concept buff for the character and paying that many points would be way over the top
  14. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Perhaps at low levels. If he thinks that's the case at 10+ level, I have to seriously wonder if he has ever played the game at higher levels. Lol, just for clarification, i am fully aware how powerful a high level wizard can be. Wolf and I may have had a little miscommunication regarding Mages If anything, i am an avid believer that a player should conduct spell research for unique spell concepts to really differentiate him/herself from the next mage. Even at low levels, its never about how powerful your spells are, but how the player best utilizes what they have. Knowing your spells goes a long way to make playing a wizard a more enjoyable experience.
  15. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Actually, I know someone (who might even be reading this right now) who most definitely thinks that 3.5 wizards are severely underpowered, even as they stand. Lol, thx Wolf
  16. Re: Ballad of Ardor Yea, a time limit would be fair restriction. It's a fairly potent buff
  17. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? If they would take the MMO aspect out of 4th, that would make me happy. I play MMO's like LOTRO and WoW from time to time and prefer to keep that experience seperate from my D&D experience. As i mentioned earlier in the thread, im all about the 2/2.5 version of D&D and they are much less problematic than the 3.x editions.
  18. Re: Ballad of Ardor That is one way to go. So that would require Standard Effect for 4d6 with Expanded effect to cover all three then?
  19. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD? Agreed. As i said in an earlier post, no game is flawless. System x,y and z will have their own internal balance factors. While 4th ed may make allowances for a fighter to add his level to damage, if i read that right from above, that ed is balanced to allow it. Same with 2nd and the 3.x, those systems have their own balancing factors that keeps it level for what it is.
  20. For a party buff that gives a +2OCV, +2DCV, and +1 to SPD, whats the best approach? At first blush AID seemed to be the way to go but im not looking for dice of effect for a CP allotment. Since this would also buff the caster, Transform is out. I thought about Characteristics with expanded effect but that applies only to Adjustment powers
