  1. Re: CHAMPIONS BEYOND -- What Do *You* Want To See?

I would like to see something unique to earth that is attractive to aliens. A reason for them to come here.

Tossing out an idea: Coffee. Its a plant that only grows well on earth. to some aliens, coffee beans are candy. To others a drug. To one race it can be refined into a potent bio weapon, deadly to their enemies but harmless to them. For yet another race its just a fine, but exotic drink.

It every case its rarity makes coffee very expensive. Aliens conduct an illicit trade with coffee growers, or their national leaders, trading manufactured gems (indistinguishable from the real thing with mere human technology), for unprocessed coffee beans.

This brings intergalactic cops, spys, criminal organizations, and adventurers to earth, mixing together for one thing: coffee.

This is just an example, but it gives all sorts of excuses for alien encounters and combat.

The heroes could be tasked with rescuing a 10 foot tall talking cockroach hiding in the back room of a restaurant. He's just a lost crew member and wants to get back to his ship. The health inspector may need to be mind controlled over this little incident. Of course the alien criminal organization, seizing an opportunity, unleashes a monstrous alien "Hit Man" to finish this rival off. The space smugglers will be glad to get their navigator back, and the contact may prove to be an interesting way to introduce the heroes to space.

  2. Re: I just got 6E today and I'm looking to build an unusual character: Black Falcon.

OK, I got the standard power point allotment is 400. But there is just a quick build guide to power sets in the back.

I was thinking in terms of a generic list of powers and their costs. Is there a supplement that lets you build your own powers?

In the day there was just: Energy Blast (1D6 of damage for 5 points) and you defined what it was yourself. And you added limitations, and advantages yourself.

  3. Re: Looking for suggestions: 600 point 6E Champs, new story arc: Ancient Astronauts

I like the first reply. I would twist it a bit. All those earlier alien pretenders were killed by Human supers. These are new. They will take new titles, like the Lord of Electronics and such.

--the kicker comes with the unmasking. They only appear to be human, in reality they look all Cuthulu like.

  4. I'll leave her write up below.

I haven't played Champions since the 90's. So I'm going back to school now.

I'm probably going to have to DM, since I'm new to my city an I always have to start out DMing. I'ld rather play, but thems the brakes. So Black Falcon will likely start life as an NPC.

Falcon is all about matter destruction, Her touch can destroy non-living matter. against the living, she can only stun. Guys in power suits, beware.

PS, I don't need full play sheet, just a few pointers.

Just from my memory (haven't cracked 6E yet), BF will need A Darkness area of effect, a transform, and a Drain Health.

Her signature attack (lifted from COH's darkness scrapper), is a rapid fire punch attack. And this is what I'm likely going to need help with.

Also, I have no idea how to buy the connection with the Private Investigations Agency.

OK, so here's the write up. This and a great art gallery can be found on my DA page in my link.

    NAME: Black Falcon

    ALIAS: Natasha Faraday

    AGE: 23

    ORIGIN: Meta

    POWERS: Darkness/corrosive energies

At 23, she’s a slim 115 pounds, 5’2”, light brown hair that matches her wings, and blue eyes. She’s as pretty as a super model. BF is a bubbly, spontaneous, energetic girl. She’s always quick to smile, and loves to tell jokes. Crime fighting is excitement for her, not a grim duty.

Metropolis knows her as a heroine, but the nation is far more familiar with Black Falcon, the masked TV spokeswoman for Wayne Enterprises. Her good looks, wings and skimpy outfit has made her a favorite on the internet, and launched a second career in commercials. But her first love is crime fighting. **She’s a bit more violent and less concerned with property damage than other heroes, but that’s why she wears a mask-no litigation.** She loves fighting Lex Corps for the sheer variety of troops, and she hates zombies, because they smell bad and squish when you hit them.

Natasha Faraday was born a meta-human. Her parents are the retired super villians, Velver Viper and Speed Demon. Regretting their previous lives as villains, the family kept moving, always looking over their shoulders. They pressed upon the young Natasha the importance of secrecy-your sins will find you out. Seeing the fear her parents lived in, Little Natasha swore never to do anything that would endanger them.

Life changed when she entered high school. With adolescence came her powers. Keeping a secret is the hardest thing for a teen, but a life lived in fear had prepared her well.

She could sprout wings at will. But the deadly darkness terrified her at first. Her hands could channel a black corrosive energy that damaged anything it touched. Black tendrils of smoke would leak from her fists. A punch could crumple solid metal as easily as if she had super strength. She could place her hands on a wall, letting the darkness seep in. Pulling away suddenly, she could collapse the entire side of a building. Simply touching a person (near the heart or head) would induce unconsciousness-its been described as having a piece of your soul ripped away.

Physically, she's about three times as fast/strong as normal human. A swipe of her wing could fling a man across the room. Bullets will sting, but bounce off her. Her dark powers enhanced even her physical attributes.

Her parents moved again at this point to a place deep in the country. Here they tutored their girl to use and understand her powers-not to fear them. Her mother made her first costume. Her father drove home the point that to be a villain was to live in fear. No possible gain was worth that.

Upon her triumphant return to Metropolis, she became a hero. Her charm caught first the attention of the Daily Planet, then the local TV stations, and then Wayne Enterprises (who came up with a novel way to pay her and yet keep her identity a secret). She would be horrified to learn that Batman has watched all along, knowing her family's secret.

Today, Black Falcon lives in a posh Metropolis apartment. She lives off her commercial endorsements. She is also a part owner of a trendy high rise bar. All in all, Black Falcon is a gal on the move.

Her biggest secret is a small army of Private Eyes she employs. She’s not a natural detective, and so she built a camera and radio into her mask. Her favorite PI is a grizzled retiree named Madigan (who himself was a hero back in the day). Her camera feed goes straight to his agency (Metropolis Investigations), and she can access any number of agents (she can end up with four or five of them walking through a mission with her). The favorite duty at the agency is Falcon Vision, they get to sit in easy chairs and give advice to a gal who does all the hard work.

I'll be posting my write up here, I'm open to any critique. This will be my tutorial back into Pen and Paper gaming.

So I'm to start reading, I'll post in a day or so.

  5. Re: Harpy questions

I like the beautiful Harpy that the Rose mentioned. They don't need hands if they can enchant a few slaves to work for them. In this way they become more evil than just an ugly crone. They feed upon and enslave humanity. They are parasites.

heck, they would make for great villains themselves or serve a more powerful master as a trusted agent. That enchanting ability would make for a great royal inquisitor.

Think of a royal son, not in line to inherit anything. He has ambitions too. So he consorts with monsters to achieve his goal, I can see a feast in his hall where he feasts on beef and his monster minions feast on a roasted human. The harpy would have her slaves feed her.

  6. Re: New Monster: Introducting the Ever-Combustible Purple Jelly

Try a twist. Its a normal looking ooze until they try to burn it.

Then it explodes into napalm like little bits. an area effect attack that engulfs the party and keeps on burning.

Heck, it doesn't even have to die right away. you can apply fire AND acid damage to the party.

I GM'd a lot of DnD. An old trick I used was to take a familiar monster and just change its shape. I took a Sea Hag, called it a corrupted dryad, and described it as a beautiful but wild looking maiden clad only in leaves. The players freaked out when the attacks came...

A grimlock became undead dwarfs digging up grave yards from the movie (I can't remember the name right now).

    Its actually pretty fun.

  7. Re: Riddles

To make a riddle, start with the answer. Then think of words that describe your answer.

for example. Stream, creek, or brook.

What sings, laughs and babbles, but has no voice?

What runs, skips and falls but has no feet?

  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

In a DnD game, the same player turned to his companion playing an uber fighter named Circum.

Player: I'm having a hard time visualizing your character. How tall is he? Is he broad shouldered? Does he have to shop at a big and tall men's store?

    Just what is Circum's size?

  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Playing Shadow Run one night (hate the combat system), the players were stymied in a hopeless investigation. So they all decided to meet with their contacts.

Player:OK, you guys meet with your contacts, and I'll try to squeeze some information out of Mr Johnson.
