  1. Also, I'd ask what do the official agencies think of friendly demons?

In Joss' comic book Fray, about a post-apocalyptic Slayer, the titular character has a demon for a Watcher.

Would the various CU law agencies appreciate demon involvement (and all that that entails)?

    Good points, Nightfly.

I'm trying to combine Buffy post season seven (where there are many Slayers and no Council of Watchers) with the CU.

Since the Initiative, part of the DOD knows about Slayers, vampires, and Hellmouths, it stands to reason that they'd tell other law enforcement and intelligence agencies about them.

I think that these agencies would insist on a working relationship with the Slayers.

By the way, shouldn't we be discussing this on the Sunnydale thread?

So what if the establishment pigs 'insist'?!  I believe the Council of Watcher's would maintain the same stand they always have in Joss' Buffyverse.

Perhaps some individual Slayers would wanna join up, but I seriously doubt any working relationship would include the Council (or their Slayers) taking orders from 'badges'.

    Just my opinion.

  3. As a diehard Buffy/Angel fan I really must ask some questions:

    1) Please explain your proclivity towards turning the slayer(s) into cops??

I always thought that one of the most basic concepts of BtVS was female empowerment (i.e., Womens Liberation...from conventional *male dominated* institutions).

As an Independent Woman, the Slayer herself / themselves stand as icons of anti-establishment (underground) heroism.  Slayers, by Joss' design, scoff at traditional law enforcement, acting (instead) as demonworld vigilantes.

    2) I wonder, is your rush to give them badges connected to Batman (the ultimate vigilante) starting to carry one?

    3) I surely appreciate the impetus of including Slayers in anyones 5E world, but, why bind these women to a badge (& penal codes).

    4) In this (prolific) fanfic, are the Watcher's no longer good enough [to direct Slayer efforts]?

5-6) Do your Slayer cops have to go through the police academy?  Why are Slayer's suddenly adept forensic scientists (why not private investigators, etc)?

In the end, if it's just a personal thing, than I guess I can understand (like if you make all your PCs have arrest powers, etc).  But, nothing in either Angel or BtVS has made me think Joss was designing another CSI or Law & Order spinoff (I kinda thought that was the whole point).

  4. Official Angel Spoilers ----

    1) Spike (before years end) will indeed be made human.  Not just tangible, Shanshu Human :)

    2) Andrew (T.Lenk) will be guesting soon on Angel, fresh from his training (with Giles) :)

Lastly, looks like Mercedes will be officially joining the cast soon.  It's possible she'll be added to the main credits (title sequence) as soon as January.

  5. Being a lifelong sci-fi / horror fan I just know I wait for Angel (and formerly Buffy) more than any other show week-to-week.  Only the Trek franchise (specifically TNG & DS9) have had as much priority in my TV viewing.

I've liked how Buffy dealt with issues surrounding youth and maturation, while Angel has always explored the gray areas of uneasy alliances (plus the whole W&H aspect has always entertained me).

Beyond the producer takes on CC, there were some various rumors about why she got booted.  One possible one (I'll repeat) was her pregnancy being forced on the writers.

Personally, I accepted and appreciated Cordy's journey, except her relationship with Connor.  I really couldn't stand Connor (how he was written, nothing against Vince).

I think Elisabeth Rohm was (during Angel, s.1-2) primarily there to be a pretty face :)  Something Joss is very known for populating his shows with!:P

  6. Blucas in Mi:3

Marc Blucas (aka Riley Finn) is an integral cast member in Mission Impossible III.

I hope this role breaks him though to the spotlight.  I think he's more talented than given credit for.

I was one that started off kinda hating Riley, for a bunch of reasons, but in the end (even before he left Buffy) I'd been won over & liked his character very much.

    I hope Mi:3 rocks!!

As I understand it, Cordy will be back for the tenth episode, then leave for good. She was a fun character. I'll miss her.

Reportedly, the Cordy epi will also be the series' 100th.  I really hope it's not her last (ever) appearance :(

I know Lindsey McDonald (Christian Kane) didn't get to fight too much, but I appreciated his character & wish he'd return.  But, the cast is pretty ample as is now.

I'm liking Eve more and more with each appearance.  I guess she's just growing on me;)

I can't wait till Druslilla next week!!

  8. What would be the chances of possibly republishing a 'Greatest Hits' of past editions [with or w/o 5E rules updated].

Although I'm sure the overall body of HERO products has been typically outstanding, there must've been some supplements that (at the time) sold better than others, or at least were more beloved / celebrated than others (such as this legendary 3-D book you're all praising).

I know I'd definitely be happy to 'catch up' on HERO's history, as I'm only familiar with 5E.  Whether it be a large book, smaller supplement, or even e-book, I know I'd eagerly buy it! :)

  9. I beg to differ, IMO Wood was capitalizing on Spike's mental duress at overcoming his trigger, and reconciling his murdering his mother, throughout the fight.

Spike and Angel have both shown that even directly contacting a cross does little to them but burn some flesh (causing smoke).  The one glaring exception being the time Xander got Angellus to release Willow (in the H.S.) when Angel went bad (after boffing Buffy).

In a latter epi Angel maintained his kissing of Buffy while being directly touched by a cross, and she was none the wiser (to his *mild* discomfort).

P.S. - Last nite's Angel episode Rocked!!  Wesley!

Nightfly, thanks for the kind words, but I believe Hermit is the author of the review you're referring to. (I might steal his credit, but I'm afraid he'd make me the subject of a poll in revenge. ;) ) I do agree with you on the usefulness of his review, his opinion of SoB, and the quality of his writing in general. I only wish I had his eloquence. :o

Sorry bout that guys.  I'm an overnite worker, & this is about my bedtime (I'm groggy-ish) :)

Hermit did write an awesome review, and Hermit's Plot Seed ideas were super-cool too [i only today spotted all those free pdfs in the Documents section.  All the Villians, Heroes, Genres, etc].

Sorry again.  You guys both write better than I do!

SoB Rocks!  And, go figure, not until after getting FH & FHG did I finally get USM?! D'Oh! &nbspBetter late than never I guess:)

  11. Lord is quite the writer (I also dig your Plot Seed suggestions in the official pdf offered in the documents section).

I took advantage of the sale to finally complete my e-book collection with the addition of Ultimate Super Mage & Shades of Black.

Talk about (accidentally) saving the best for last.  Wow, the USM is mind-blowingly expansive, and Shades of Black was far better than (even the very quality writitng) I expected.

I didn't read LL's excellent review until after I'd already purchased & read [over] SoB, and I must agree with his review 1000%.

Thanks DOJ for putting out so many cool e-book products [as well as printed ones]!!

Anyone still on the fence should know you won't be disappointed.

I'll definitely be grabbing the next HERO Plus adventure Day 1.

P.S. Thanks for supporting the Dark Champions genre with SoB.  And thanks for making it tuff enough to truly be challenging.  I prefer death to be an actual threat / possibility in my adventures.

  12. I still say that be it Faith/Buffy or Spike/Angel, a substantial amount of their *flashy* powers should be explained as extra boost (AID) skills.

Similarly, instead of the Slayer running at 9", she should probably move at 7", but with a +2" Running that'd cost extra endurance to use (maybe even with an activation roll).

This could explain why the potency of their "super powers" vary in effectiveness week-to-week, foe-to-foe.

Perhaps an example would be when Principle Wood was beating up Spike (over his trigger song).  And then Spike comes back.

Just because we see Wood pounding on Spike one epi, then Faith do it on another, doesn't mean Wood is equal (in attributes) to Faith.  It probably has more to do with Spike's skills [and what's happening when].

Thanks for the reference :) Yeah, Joss' gun theory was pertaining more to outside, where a gunshot can carry forever (sonically).

He's not anti-gun, so he uses them on occassion.

Wes is pretty wicked w/ a shotgun too :)
