You could develop quite a large organization specializing in meta-human health and rapid response crisis medicine.

traveling to disaster areas to tend the wounded and rescue people I can see cities taking out meta-human response insurance for major disasters. An orbital hospital base. A whole assembly of intrusting medical supers.

I can see some really intreasting npcs or characters

Specialist in mystical maladies

Duplicating paramedic

Healer gods

Telekinetic rescue worker

Kitty Pryde turned field medic

A lot of supers might work there pro bono to get access to there labs and peers for assistance with there own medical problems (think Bruce Banner he’s a specilaist in radiation illnesses).

Might be worth being on call for emergancies if that gets you free insurance as well.

I have to say my favorite example of the evils of religious extremism in comics has to be the brilliant X-men

"God loves man kills" they those themes where repeated a couple of years ago and resurrected the protagonist in Extreme x men earlier this year but neither occasion had same finesse as the original.

yet there also the mystical defenders of there neigbourhood and something big and bad comes to town and no one man is tough enough to stop it either they join forces get past there bigotry or they all lose.

Imp loving this concept I kind of like the idea of a mixed group of immigrants who defend New York from the strange threats that arrive from there home lands lets see being lazy about concepts.

I just can't get the term WENDY HOUSE out of my head (Wendy houses are children’s play houses in the UK I think named after the little house the lost boys built Wendy in peter pan) So I think she would have to be a brick.

I'm just picturing this prime neat young lady who has suddenly developed invulnerability to harm of course your choice entirely if you decide to instigate the Fairchild rule and have only her body be invulnerable and not her clothing of course she could always buy some unstable molecule undies.

As for an origin how about a nice piece of jewelry she buys at a small antique shop or yard sale ort what have you.

No one notice anything odd about it until the next base attack and when an energy blast bigger than a Buick hits her she walks away unscathed if a little embarrassed that her neat suit is slightly vaporized.

Of course the jewelry carries a strange curse whilst you become to all intense and prepossess invulnerable you are also liable to find your self needing to be on a regular basis people try to kill you and improbable events happen every day you get caught in a dimensional rift and spend a hundred years as queen of the lizard people your kidnapped and thrown into a volcano to appease the gods your vacation is interrupted by aliens mistakenly seeking you as mediator in an intergalactic war.

Not to mention working for a super team would make matters even worse

theres a finite amount of the energy that ebeus super powers a super hero dies on his won this power is sent out to a random human.

if he's slain by another super the power is passed on to his killer.

slowly over time more supers are created until the entire stock of energy is in play at which point they all fight to see who will become to all intense and purposes a GOD.

oops doesnt turn her opponants into piles of smoldering ashes or kick them in the crotch for that matter(probably the shin thats ladylike).

strangly i actually see this one going to the authortity.

as long as they are prepared the doctor has to give them all some form of anti magic defence. after that its pretty easy the rest of the authority protect teh doctor from taks minions. apollo is pretty much made for cruhing undead armies with his solar vision he's a vampire lords worst nightmare.

midnighter and swift take the middle range stuff whilst the Engineer and Jack fight off the low level walking dead etc.

The team has definatly fought and defeated undead superheros and forces so this shouldn't be a problem.

this leaves the doctor and tak in a mystical battle royal but who wins that is a toss up I edge towards teh doctor because tak is waning in power whilst the doctor is at his mystical peak with millenia of knowlage to draw on one of his predcessors may well have fought someone similar.

of course this is mute if the doctor can't protect the team from the magic of the other sides big hitters they all go down and then he's swamped by the minion hordes and Takofanes stomps all over him while he's drained trying to stop them all.

Silver age authority

Swift regains her Buddhist code versus killing, as does everyone else.

The doctor becomes massively more dangerous because he no longer has his narcotics addictions but loses some of his power as he has to be nice about things (no more giving soldiers breasts) he also gains a proper energy blast not just transformations.

Jack loses the ability to make buildings fall and gas mains collapse but regains his window viewing supers strength and speed de-solidification and possibly is able to rebuild buildings which is why golden age fights can smash the city and it will be fine by teatime

And the engineer well she doesn’t change either except she no longer creates huge machine guns for arms she now has proper stunning energy cannons that won't hurt even the weakest mooch but will blow a hole in the side of a building should the need arise.

Midnighter and Apollo become dedicated bachelors and ladies men and probably acquire some teenage sidekicks in skimpy brightly coloured outfits. Oh and midnighter now only fighst with his staff and non lethal weapons

Oh and they stop trying to remake the world in there image on there terms and back up the status quo

I think because they come from the hands as long as you stop there arms fron getting close you stop the blade so any martial arts move that locks the arms stops the attack.

don't forget to add extra knockback the beam after all is suposed to be more of a powerful push than a laser

Lets see Iron Age comics at the moment well from Marvel I'd have to say NYX and the Ultimate (particularly dark for a comic without a mature content warning) certainly have a dark flavor.

Actually much of the Ultimate line has a certain moral ambiguity to it the latest issue of ultimate x men gave me a double take wolverine is cast in a much darker light than ever before out side his own comic which is often brutal punisher similar story.

the only way the authority could win this is if they where fighting the cartoon version then jsut maybe they would have a chance. mind you jackhawks moore woudl be totally useless as all the buildings in the cartoons are made out of styrofoam.

Well the best comic book example is the green lantern.

The Guardian of the Universe select a worthy human and bestow the ring which gives them great power but that powers use depends on the user so John Stewart uses its immense power differently too how Kyle Rayner or Guy Gardener use theirs.

On the other hand star man where the powers come from the same source and so the abilities don’t change merely the way it is used.

seeing as theres been a lot of talk about the authority lately you could borrow two of there origins where a previous hero dies and upon there death bequeths there powers to a new generation.

so The Amazing Dave was given his piowers by a mystic artifact and upon his death his powers travel to the nearest worthy vessel suddenly some random nice guy gets blaste with teh power cosmic and is reborn a super hero

I kind of imagine them as being the most psychopathic agents viper there competent but they are kill crazy they like to do unspeakable things to people stuff that would make even viper agents ill so when you want to send a very clear message the death addresser up torture them and there family and there pets to death then burn down there house. They probably turn up during a dinner party too there the kind of sick puppies that are to unstable fop normal fieldwork but too useful for those jobs even normal viper agents would throw up at the thought of. Murder mayhem torture maiming acts of barbarity of all forms that’s the death adders.

birds of prey is technically based on the dc comic of the same name though hideously mutilated. as huntress was the daughter of batman and catwoman i'd probaly have to say she was prior art
