    The only problem is that although there are many ways to get to the inner earth in the setting document there is virtually no way to get out and back to the surface.

     

    Any suggestions?

     

    The two options that the members of Justic Inc. have in my campaign are to build a hot air balloon and use the polar opening, or use the crashed Mongo Rocket ships jump engine to jump them out, ( In my game there is a crashed rocket ship in the Ghost City of Ketetos.) to Egypt or Mongo!

    I'm 41 and have been playing Hero since 1981 when it was called Champions. I still refer to Hero as Champions every now and again. I started gaming with Metagamings The Fantasy Trip around 1977 or so. I havew also played D&D, Whitewolf, Traveller, V&V, Call of Cthulhu, Man Myth and Magic, and a host of other systems.

    Here is what I found.

    I've been playing since Champions came out in 1981. What do I like about the system?

     

    1. It let's me design and play the character I want to play.

    2. No levels

    3. No classes

    4. Universial system can play fantasy/scifi/horror/supers/etc.

     

    Those are the biggest reasons I continue to play Hero.

    Would you put Dr. Strange in the top 10 or 25 of martial artists? And he got a hit on Mantis who you put in as #1? And Mantis proves ineffectual in how many stories?

     

    I wouldn't put Strange in the top 10. Not sure about the top 25. Not sure how many stories Mantis proves ineffectual in, but she did one punch Thor. Much of the ineffectual stuff I believe is a plot device. So in the Defenders comic where Strange hit Mantis, it more to show that Strange is trained in Martial Arts rather than he is on par with Mantis.

    Not so much...Dr. Strange got in one hit but then had to make with the magic to take down Mantis. This happened in Defenders vol. 1 #9 during the Avengers/Defenders War.

    6. Daredevil

    7. Black Widow/Falcon/Moon Knight

    My son got the pirate ship for Christmas, it was in the bargin bin for $11! I haven't checked the scale but it is one cool looking ship. All I could think of was how I can work it into the Supers game I am running.

    The New Avengers, in my opinion, are crap. The death of Hawkeye, Vision and turing Scarlet Witch and Quicksliver into insane villians was a slap in the face to long time Avengers fans like myself, again in my opinion. The whole "New" Avengers reminds me of the Heros Reborn Avengers, and as with that cluster I believe this too shall pass.

     

    Wake me when Bendis leaves will ya?

    The Roman era didn't have horses large enough to have heavy lancers, though war elephants did exist; elephants are not lance-type animals, though. They tend to go berserk when combat starts, and although that is gratifyingly destructive, it isn't the steerable charge that horse cavalry gets you. Horse cavalry in that era were slashing-sword types and horse archers.

     

    Rome also didn't have the stirrup. Which made it very difficult to charge with a lance. ;)

    I like Astonishing Xmen, but then again I am a Whedon fanboy. I don't care for Bendis, so I can't give a non biased opinion on New Avengers.

    I have never had much luck using HERO for simulating the helplessness of Lovecraftian horror. I have always found that my HERO Lovecraft games turn into quasi-supers games, or shoot 'um ups rather than the experience of cosmic terror that they should be.

    Further I believe that SPEED score does not make the speedster. Lightning Reflexes or DEX, Defense Manuver 1-4, Speed Tricks MP, and of course a high movement rate those are the defining features of a speedster. Using this philosophy a great speedster could be developed on any speed score you assigned. I have one based on a streamlined SPEED F2F game with a 4 Speed (but then all Supers have a 4 speed in that game).

     

    Very interesting. I have been troubled by speed infaltion in some of my games and discourage character with more that 5 SPD. Did your players have a problem with a 4 speed limit? I like the idea that other powers/skills/talents and movement are what make a speedster, not the SPD characteristic. I will experiment with this in my games.

    I've been in two games in my life that touched on sexual topics.

     

    I ran played a homosexual, drug pushing, posoning pedophile. He had a network of young boy informants who were his lovers and his information collection/drug distribution system. Again, this ended up working out as completely amusing

     

    Amusing? No! Sick? Yes!

    So I ran Champions last night for the first time since Fred came out and the Heros got kinda spanked (lost the fight) but kept the bad guys from getting the loot. Now I am faced with how much XP to give, back in the days of BBB 3-4 was the norm with the group I play with. I would like to know how much you guys give per game also........

     

    Do you give the same to every player?

     

    Do you have a flow chart type way of coming up with a number?

     

    Do you give a bonus for anything?

     

    Any advice on this topic would be welcome.

     

    I usuall give the same amount to each player although if someone does an exceptional job of roleplaying I may slip them an extra point or two. I really don't have a flow chart for comming up with the points I give. I just use my own judgement on what I think they should receive.

     

    I tend to wait quite a while before I give out experience. I usually wait until the group has earned 10-15 points of xp and then give it out all at once. This seems to work well for my group as it makes them think about how they will expend xp when they get it. This would probably drvie many players nuts having to wait 4 or 5 sessions before getting xp, so it's best to judge the temperment of your group before doing it.
