Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread
Got the provisional result of the exam I thought I failed, and I was wrong - I passed. That leaves one "probably" and one "for sure" result to come.
congrats.

Re: The Last Word
But do your students know that?Hey, with some of them, their grades will improve.

Re: The Last Word
you forgot Roswell. In point of fact, not really. But they decided to spend part of a year trying to teach it to us anyway.(I think all of NM history can be summed up in five bullet points: Pre-Columbian, Coronado, Indian wars, Pancho Villa, Manhattan Project. Our books were so old we didn't anything after Coronado. )
BR: Before Roswell, AW: After Roswell.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
So on Friday I met and got autographs from Vince Voyeur, Jessica Drake, Kirstin Price and Savanna Samson. Nice people. And if you want to know where you know the names from, ask keyes_bill he will enlighten you.
J. Drake rings a bell (in more ways than one)

Re: The Last Word
I just remembered "Tubal", or something else, I'll have to have a look tomorrow.
from wikipedia -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubal:
The Tabali (Tibarenoi in Greek) were Luwian tribes of Asia Minor of the 3rd-1st millennias BC. They and other related tribes, the Chalybes (Khalib/Khaldi) and the Mossynoeci (Mossynoikoi in Greek), are sometimes considered the founders of metallurgy. (emphasis mine)

Re: The Last Word
You might be thinking of Wayland -- Völund in Swedish. He was the Anglo-Saxon god of smiths' date=' IIRC.[/quote']No not Wayland, it was something like "Tiwaz", starting with "T". Like Vulcan, but Semite I think.

Re: The Last Word
No' date=' Jupiter and Tyr both came from *Diyaus Pithar. Tyr came via *Tiwaz, which is what the Goths called their chief god.[/quote']"Tiwaz" rings a bell in some other context. IIRC it was some sort of Smithy/Metallurgy diety.
No time for research now, maybe tomorrow.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
from what I've watched of 7Sam it is good, but slow in places.

Re: The Last Word
How do you get Jupiter or Zeus Pater* out of Tyr? Linguistically it doesn't seem to fit.
*Also the D&D Devil-Lord Dispater is linguistically evolved from the same root/concept.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
I've started watching it, but never finished it. As it is long, I've decided to watch it in parts, like LotR. An hour here, and hour there etc.
