  1. Re: Multiform Sounds like the final answer is that only 1 pt in 6 can go into MF, and that is the rate-limiting factor on the growth of the most expensive form. OK but, since the MF has some limits on it, that 1CP might actually gain her 2AP in MF, meaning her bear form could jump by 10pts. Also, her human form is going to gain 3XP for doing nothing but sitting in limbo. That 20pt character is going to grow fast.
  2. Re: The Birthday Suit Boogaloo? That's even weirder then because you pseudo-quoted my post ... "If it goes without saying", which I find ironic, considering this post.
  3. Re: The Birthday Suit Boogaloo? ???
  4. Re: The Birthday Suit Boogaloo? I didn't "use" anything; you did. You raised the example of cultures who fight naked. I think it goes without saying that this discussion does not apply to them, (any more than, say, a discussion of PRE attacks based on neg COM makes sense in a race where everyone has a neg COM). The current discussion only makes sense in the context of nudity normally being rare; the question being limited to: is it strange enough (to have an effect on combat).
  5. Re: The Birthday Suit Boogaloo? I think it could have gone without saying that this must be considered to be culturally-contextually dependent. If everyone's naked then obviously there's nothing to write home about.
  6. Re: Multiform I'm sorry, this just makes no sense. (Not your explanation - I think you're interpreted the rules literally, I just can't believe HG would design it this way.) 1] So, my 20pt true form character gets 4XP. She can throw them into MF if she chooses. So, her 200pt form just jumped by 20pts. She can do this EVERY TIME she gains XP. After 12 adventures, she'll be pushing 400pt - twice as powerful as her teammates. 2] Does the (now) 220pt from still have to balance? i.e. do I have to find 20 pts in disads? When the alternate form is pushing 400pts, does it need to have acquired 200pts in disads to stay balanced?
  7. I don't understand Multiform. I've got a human (20CP) that can transfrom into a Polar Bear (200CP). I thought the most expensive form (bear) should pay the cost of the MF but it doesn't make sense this way. The bear form is paying for its own points (i.e. 40 of its points must go into paying for the most expensive 200pt form.) Which is fine, except the human form is now free to use as many points as he wants all the way up to 200 - the only restriction is to ensure that he starts off balanced with disads. So the bear earns 4XP. He can put it into MF, and now the humans form can jump from 20CP to 40CP, as long as I can balance it with a 20pt. disad. That can't be right. Despite what the rules say, ALL forms MUST gain experience normally. The only caveat is that the points allotted for MF must climbs accordingly. (Which might mean only 3XP to grow, with 1 put in MF). Same thing works if its created with the humans as the true form. The MF is paid for by the human. Human form, instead of being 20pts, spends 40 points on MF and gets 200pt bear. Now the human earns 4XP. If the human put those 4 pts into MF, can the bear increase to 220pts? No! Well, sure if I added another 20pts of disads to the bear so that it still balanced out, right? So, how does the bear grow? XP! The bear MUST gain 4XP, just like normal, despite the fact that the rules do not say that. Huh? (Also, to be persnickety, conceptually, why is the human earning anything? It is possible that the human is not even aware of the adventure that transpired since she's got MF amnesia.)
  8. Re: PRE attacks on PCs Well, I guess I've got my answer. It's not as clear cut as I assumed. Anyway, it isn't that my intent was to punish the PC by making him hesitate, it was to keep the atmosphere up that no one knew each other yet, and that they should be RPing it as such.
  9. Re: PRE attacks on PCs OK, let me rephrase. If you had a rules Nazi, who claimed that the book says "does not affect PCs", would he be technically correct? Literally, PCs? Or would you say that the spirit of the rule is intended to be "PC's characters who know each other? (which is why they don't drop their guns when the PC yells DROP IT!")? (Note: not that I'm really having a debate with the player; I made the GM call, I'm just trying to settle a bet that, IMO, no call is needed, just an intelligent interpretation of the intent of the rule.)
  10. The 5E rules say a PRE attack by a PC does not affect other PCs. Would you say that the correct spirit of the rules is that this does not apply if the two PC characters do not know each other and do not know whether they're goo or bad guys? Yes, I can certainly rule that way, but what do you think is the technical "by the book" answer? (Context: First game, first actions: character A (a manimal) blows into combat past character B, then stops, and lets out a howl of rage). Character B does not yet know that Character A is a good guy. Does he get affected by the PRE attack?
  11. Re: LoS versus Continuous  I'm such a stupidhead. When I first composed the question, I was thinking that LoS meant you didn't need to make an attack roll. I've been playing for 20 years, and that's how rusty I am that I forgot how LoS works.
  12. Is there much point in taking Continuous if one already has LoS? I mean, technically there's a difference but, with LoS, they can simply hit the target again the next phase (unless the target goes behind cover). I liked the Uncontrolled but to buy Cont forst means the wohle thing is still +2. Might Continuous be a lower advantage?
  13. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it That sounds like 'linked', which I think has been deprecated for a while. Linked allowed you to tie a smaller power to a larger power (like a flash to an EB), as well as tie a stand-alone power to a slot in an EC or MP.
  14. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it I've never heard of a unified power. Must be a 6E thing? I don't need the trigger. Player has decided to use himself as the repository, so it's his choice when he aids someone. Here's what I've built in HDv3: 16 Elemental Control, 32-point powers 44 1) Transfer 2 ½d6 (END/STUN to END/STUN), Limited Range: 6" (+¼), Invisible to Single Sense (+¼) (60 Active Points) 6 11 2) Healing to END/STUN 2 ½d6, Limited Range: 6" (+¼) (31 Active Points); Side Effect: burns equivalent END/STUN, Automatic (-½) 3 8 3) Defenses: (Total: 30 Active Cost, 14 Real Cost) - +15 PD (15 Active Points); Only up to unused points in transfer (-½), Side Effect: burns equivalent END/STUN, Automatic (-½) (Real Cost: 7) plus - +15 ED (15 Active Points); Only up to unused points in transfer (-½), Side Effect: burns equivalent END/STUN Automatic (-½) (Real Cost: 7) 13 4) Detect Life force: Detect Class: (END/STUN of living things) 12- (Unusual Group), Discriminatory, Increased Arc Of Perception (360 Degrees), Range, Sense, Targeting (32 Active Points); Concentration (½ DCV; -¼)
  15. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it Yeah. That's the way I'm building it while I wait to see if anything else pops up. I was just hoping to avoid having to buy two separate powers.
  16. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it Is it possible to do this? Is it posssible to buy Transfer to transfer from the character TO someone else? The various flavours of UAO or UAA don't quite seem to do it.
  17. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it
  18. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it I was thinking abot using an END battery to basically serve as the "bookkeeper" of "life force" points. Strangely, it's far too effective. Transferring into and END abttery gets me 10x as many points as I drained (1CP = 10 End). I could then buy my powers with the Increased Endruance - 10x for a -4 limitation!
  19. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it BTW, this is 5E only.
  20. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it I wonder if it would be easier/cheaper to use only one power - Transfer - and have it go both directions. Transfer from Bad Guy to me Transfer from me to Good Guy (I'd need usable as attack on that second one).
  21. Re: Uh, other - don't know what to call it Here's my 2 variations: var 1: character is only conduit Drain 2 1/2 D6 (1/3 each from End, Stun, Bod) - note: keep track of "Life Force point pool" - Limited Range 6" (+1/4) - Invisible to sight (+1/4) - LF Pts return per minute (+1/4) Aid 2 1/2 D6 (1/3 each to End, Stun, Bod) - Limited Range 6" (+1/4) - LF Pts fade per minute (+1/4) - Can only follow Drain (-1/2) - Exactly as many LF points as were Drained (+0) 15 PD/15 ED - only up to current LF points (-1/2) - Side effect: burns LF points from pool (-1/2) - Character has no choice (-1/2) var 2: character is storage - can use Life Force points as his own Transfer 2 1/2D6 (1/3 each from/to End, Stun, Bod) - note: keep track of "Life Force point pool" - Limited range 6" (+1/4) - Invisible to sight (+1/4) Healing 2 1/2 D6 (1/3 each to End, Stun, Bod) - Limited range 6" (+1/4) - Exactly as many LF points as were Drained (+0) - Side effect: burns LF points from pool (-1/2) 15 PD/15 ED - only up to current LF points (-1/2) - Side effect: burns LF points from pool (-1/2) - Character has no choice (-1/2) Still lots of tweaking to do... EC? MP? Reduced End? etc.
  22. I have a character who has a Drain (from BOD, STUN, END) followed by an Aid (to BOD, STUN, END) - lim: only as much as was drained. Question 1: How much is the Aid limit "Aided points exactly equal Drained points" worth? +0? Question 2: I envision a defense that uses up the "virtual points" if the character gets hit. So, say he's just drained 14 pts, (which are floating in limbo, waiting for him to use them for the Aid). Before he can use the Aid, he gets hit with a blaster shot. The points go into a defense that protects him. What defense? What defensive power will activate only when and if it's needed, does not use End otherwise, but does use those limbo points when the hit occurs? (The last part is easy to build, just some limit that says "locks out Aid until Drain is used again"); what I'm not sure about is which defense I should use that pops up without his volition just as its needed. Armour?
  23. I've got a player who wants to channel the energy (end/stun) from the bad guys to the good guys. It seems this wouldn't be Transfer, since the character is only the conduit, not the receptacle, of the transferred points. Simply combining a Drain and an Aid with a lim on the aid 'can only aid as many points as drained'? Seems to me this would require two attack rolls on separate phases, yes? Anyone think of any other way to do this? Transfer, usable against others / as an attack?
