  1. If there are answers in the FAQ, I may have missed it, (possibly looking in the wrong section?) I have a bunch of ?'s about Instant Change. 1] The old rules are a bit vague on the circumstances surrounding changing into super-duds. Has there been any clarificatioon on it? At least a full phase kind of thing? 2] My character has powers SFX that can make his body change appearance and his features unrecognizable. Note, his powers (high-DEF) are actually persistent, so he doesn't need to turn them on to change like this. (This should mean he can change his appearance for free and in zero time, shouldn't it?) Also, he yanks his shirt off to compelete the transformation. Would this need to take time? If I didn't want it to take time, could/should I (have to) buy Instant Change? And would I need to spend 10 points to buy Shapeshift, Instant, just to rip my shirt off and change my skin colour? Looking for input.
  2. Try as I might I have been unable to find anything in the book that talks about OCV after having been knocked down, particularly in HTH with the knocker-downer.
  3. Re: vehicle: Learjet Not a one? I've made one up from the listing in Champions v3, but I was hoping for the extra bits - senses, skills, equipment, etc.
  4. Could someone point me at a sheet for a learjet? Or perhaps even the HDC file?
  5. Re: CEO skills, aeronautical design skills Hm. I'm wondering if CEO is the right position for my character. As I've written Connor's background, his father is head of the family-owned commercial airline business (eg. corporate office in Ottawa) and Connor's being groomed to take over. Connor is currently CEO of a different division (eg. advanced development in Toronto). But the story role Connor plays is that of a millionnaire playboy. He's got responsibilities but is not ready for them yet. His father wants him to stop all this foolish skirt-chasing and fast-car driving and head the company. Connor gets the perks such as celebrity and company resources, but at the same time is often called upon for public speaking and press conferences. He's a sexy figurehead. Does this sound like a CEO of a division? Would Directeor be better? It should be accompanied by some celebrity status. He already has the high PRE, COM and charisma skills. Also, his division would be involved in advanced materials engineering. Ideas welcome.
  6. Re: Help with a power write up You know, as long as you've paid the points, there's no reason why you have to play it strictly by the book. Define the extra phases as doubling up on his regular phases rather than alternating with them if you want.
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... The local haunt in our game is called "The Unexploded Scotsman"
  8. 1a] What primary, core skill would cover being the CEO of a large business such as a private airline company? PS: CEO? 1b] What about peripheral skills? I've got Biz Law, Biz Finances and Diplomacy? 2a] What core science skill(s) would be key to technological innovation in the commercial airline industry, say for the Director of Engineering? 2b] What would be some good peripheral skills? I've got Aeronautical Engineering, Metallurgy and Structural Engineering*. *is Structural Engineering aqppropriate or am I misunderstadning the skill?
  9. How much is "+1 with all INT-based skills"? Seems to me it's 5 pts. I might as well just put those 5 points into INT.
  10. I wish to buy Desolid that is very hard on the character. If I buy it with 1 charge, uses End, Continuing charge,(+1 phase), 2x End, that will use 8 End. Does the Cont. Charge (+1 phase) require another 8 end - for 16 total?
  11. Re: Power construct: dynamic force walls Right. Drat. Flashback to 4th Ed. Yeah, although I think buying it w/o the MP is both simpler and cheaper.
  12. I want a character that can create force bubbles varying in size and DEF at will. Basically, it's a force wall but it requires End every phase and will drop if they stop paying (though they don't have to make an attack roll again each phase). 1] I think I can simply buy FW with the 5th Ed. limitation "Costs Endurance" b ut with the "power that normally cost Endurance only to activate, now costs end every phase" flavour -1/4 limitation (5th Ed. p185). 1b] I notice though, I can't build that construction in HeroDesigner v2.37. Ideas? 2] OK, now, what about being able to change its size at will? With, say, 50pts in the power, can I create it at 10PD/10ED but only 1" in radius? Do I just determine the radius in my attack action? 3] If I wanted a 2PD/2ED FW that's 10" across, can I build the power to do that? I know I can buy it that way, yes, but then it's fixed that way. I would prefer to keep this simple, I'd rather not do the "ForceWall MP" thing if possible. I suppose it would make perfect sense to simply buy a 10PD/10ED FW (50) with +8" width (8) and +8" height (8) and then limit how much I use. OK, now to tackle the "extra time" partially limited lim, so I can power it up...
  13. Re: Character: Experiment 626 I love it! PS: Imitate Godzilla/Giant Rubber Monster 15- heheh
  14. Re: Power-construction: Detect Vibration Well, being that Champions is an effect-based construction system, the effect is not really like touch (even if that's the physiological mechanism). The effect is more like...hearing I guess. Not accurate enough to be targeting, but accurate enough to get a very rough idea of what's moving out there.
  15. How would you build a power like scorpions have where they can feel movement of other critters by their vibrations through the ground. I suppose Passive sonar - only when both are in contact with same surface? Except I see that passive Sonar is not listed in Hero Designer v2.37.
  16. Re: The Munchkin Build Contest After reading through some of these, I have a few questions: 1] How do you determine an acceptable power construction from an unacceptable one? Some are clearly bending the intention of the rules, but most are merely highly effective combinations. 2] How do you explain to the player why they can't have it? "So, let me get this straight, you won't let me take the power because it's very effective. Do I have that right?"
  17. Would like to understand Mental Damage Shield better. Have checked FAQ and done a search, but didn't find enough. 1] To apply a damage shield to a mental power, does it still have to be bought under the usual rules of DS, including 0End and Constant? 2] Does this advantage on a mental power require creating a new power? i.e. thi spower can no longer be used normally? 3] Just to throw a spanner into the works, the actual power creation in question is Mental Paralysis (Entangle, BOECV, affects EGO instread of STR.) Does that change any of the above? (One more XP will be able to buy off charge limitation on use of definite articles and 1st person pronouns.)
  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... This happened just last Wednesday Ancient Japan campaign. I’m a ninja sneaking up on an Inn, casing the joint to see if my cohorts have arrived. I carry a large bow, so to avoid trouble, I've disguised myself as a hunter, having killed some birds as I travelled and thrown them over my shoulder. I listen at each window. At one back window, I hear the familiar sounds of my two teammates who are disguised as a married couple. The players say they are “doing what married couples doâ€. I tell the GM, that I listen a little longer outside that window. Another ninja sneaks out of the wood. I crit fail my stealth roll and he spots me. I’m supposed to be quiet like the wind, so I’m annoyed. “I know, it was bad luck! One of the chickens wasn’t dead. It clucked.†So the GM then makes me roll to determine of *I* spotted *him*. I crit fail *again*. Strangling my dice, I try to save my dignity. “OK, I know! I didn’t hear him sneaking up on me, because I’m busy wringing the bird’s neck before it blows my cover.†The GM turns to another player (the other ninja) and asks what he does next. And the player says: “Let me just understand this. I come upon him outside a bedroom, with lovemaking sounds coming from within. He's outside, with his ear to the window, choking his chicken…â€
  19. Re: Preamble of the Week We're a team all right. We take marching orders from the mayor of the city. They just can't afford a budget, so they took away our base, and gave us first & last rent on a run-down flat.
  20. In the spirit of the recent 'Quote of the Week', I've posted a short preamble from our MegaCity [Mysterymen-style] Campaign. One of our players (Night Watchman) couldn't play one week, so the GM planned to handwave him out of the plot. I felt he deserved a bit better treatment... (We open with the team busily renovating their own base - an abandoned Asian restaurant in Parkdale, T.O...) "No, you pebblehead, hold it like this!" Night Watchman grabbed the 4x8 sheet of drywall that Rebar was holding and attempted to yank it from his hands. That left Watchman holding a 2x2 piece of drywall, and Rebar holding two end bits. Which, in a slow-witted attempt to be compliant, he then let go of. Causing them to land squarely on Watchman's toe. Who hollered as much in frustration as in pain. Watchman whipped his cape around and, for the fifth time today, attempted to rend it to pieces with his hands and teeth. Red Rocket and Metroman, on the other side of the restaurant/headquarters, looked at each other with a mixture of fear and amusement, and went back to painting. They had almost finished the South wall, having put a nice new coat of green over the ugly blue that was up there now. They had only the East wall left. The Hero With No Name didn't hear a thing with his headphones on, bopping to a home-burned CD of Abba hits that had 'Metallica' written across it in heavy marker. He had just reached the corner of the South wall, putting a nice new coat of blue over the hideous green that was up there now. It seemed like he had been at this for hours. Pink Panther stood in the centre, shouting directions at nobody in particular, stopping occasionally to arrange skirmishes between the warm-coloured swatches and the cool-coloured swatches, the warms always ganging up on the cools. The Loon had been doing something - long forgotten by all - that was now usurped by a spirited and methodical attempt to explore variations on the 'arms akimbo' stance, including arguments with himself about whether it was possible to have any other limbs akimbo, and in fact, what exactly akimbo entailed. As usual, he lost the argument. "Next time we draw straws for partners, I'll do the picking!" Night Watchman picked up his drill and turned back towards the partially finished exterior wall. "Look, Rebar, just pick these panels up and place them over there. And then stay over there. That's it. Don't help OK?" With what passed for Rebarian knuckles dragging on the ground, Rebar didn't have to bend over to pick up the sheaf of twenty boards. He grasped them all at once and lifted. Night Watchman, standing on the bottommost board in the stack - the one that was sticking out - went with them. But he was too quick and nimble to be bested by a rectangle of rubble. He anticipated - doing a lovely backflip, landing neatly in place again with a flourish and a "aHAH!" Rebar, turned at the exclamation, swinging the boards with him. He felt a thunk, and heard a huge crash - but all he saw was a hole in the brick wall where Watchman had been standing, and a pair of costumed feet poking through the hole. And he was holding 20 4x4 sheets of drywall. "Uh oh." said Rocket, "Better get the Ozonol."
  21. Re: Cartoon of the week What's 'rep'?
  22. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... "... your specific game may not have had a frustrated new player, but commonly that is the result..." Yes, of course, but as you pointed out, it is OT. This thread is about great lines, not analyzing interaction.
  23. Anyone else use their free segments (and unconscious time) to chronicle the game in illustrations? Danger Sense more...
